Very nice antique piece from the European art deco period, circa 1920. This large hat-dress pin has been crafted with chinoiserie patterns in solid .800/.999 silver and mounted on top with a decorative element carved from natural Nephrite jadeite jade. The carving depicts the flying figure of a mythological dragon.
The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it in east Asian culture. during the days of imperial China, the emperor of China usually used the dragon as a symbol of his imperial strength and power. In Chinese culture, excellent and outstanding people are compared to a dragon, while incapable people with no achievements are compared to other, disesteemed creatures, such as a worm. A number of Chinese proverbs and idioms feature references to a dragon, such as "hoping one's child will become a dragon".

An exceptional elongated brooch, created in Austria during the art nouveau period, back in the 1915. This magnifique piece has been carefully crafted with the egyptian revival style, in solid .900/.999 silver with brushed finish. The wings are accented with applications of the difficult technique of Plique à Jour in translucent yellow-green and bluish-gray enamels. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged horizontal bar with a security lock. The figure represent the Egyptian sacred scarab with open feathers wings, of the god Khepri.
Quartz Stones: Mount in bezel settings, with 2 round cut of blue quartz.
Opal: Mount in a bezel setting, with 1 oval cabochon cut of a natural opal of about 2.75 carats.

Egyptian Winged Scarab
This kind of beetle was highly symbolic to ancient Egyptians, it represented rebirth and renewal. They believed that the sun was pushed across the sky every day by a giant scarab, the god Khepri. In real life, the scarab beetle lays its eggs in a ball of dung and rolls the ball ahead of it wherever it goes. Originated in Ancient Egypt. A scarab is shaped like a dung beetle. There is a head, wing case, and legs. It is sometimes rounded and sometimes flat. The scarab was associated with the god Khepri who was the god or rebirth, creation, and the sun. Dung beetles were the earthly personification of Khepri as they would lay their eggs in balls of dung and then roll the dung balls all around until the eggs hatched. Early hieroglyphics depict Khepri as a scarab holding up the sun. There were hundreds of memorial scarabs created to memorialize Amenhotep III’s deeds. These included the bull hunt scarab which symbolizes strength and victory over chaos. Later, around 2000 BCE the scarab was used in jewelry and as seals. This fine and impressive antique Edwardian Art Nouveau brooch has been crafted in 21k gold with an 18k yellow gold bar.
The bar brooch is ornamented to the centre with a hexagonal shaped 21k yellow gold feature setting embellished with a female portrait accented with a mine cut diamond to her choker, all in the iconic Art Nouveau style.
The feature setting is further ornamented with scrolling leaf decoration, in addition to a white gold set mine cut diamond to each of the six points.
The Edwardian brooch secures to an 18ct yellow gold safety pin style fastening.

A child of Ménilmontant and the popular suburbs of Paris, Louis Rousselet was born in 1892 and shared his first class benches with Maurice Chevalier, before becoming an apprentice in a pearl factory at the age of 12. Although very young, his artistic talent and strong personality made him quickly noticed.
In 1920, he founded his own workshops to which he gave his name and whose specialty was imitation enamel and pearl glass beads. Coco Chanel, who then wanted to promote costume jewellery, became one of the house's first clients. Then Dior, Lanvin, Schiaparelli, Jacques Fath, Balenciaga, Balmain…
For more than 60 years, all the great couturiers came to get their supplies from Rousselet, who imagined for them adornments implementing a unique know-how. The workshops employed up to 800 people.
Many music hall and cinema personalities appear in the press covered with Rousselet pearls, such as Ginger Rogers during a stocking organized by Jacques Fath. Mistinguett is the face of the house and regularly strikes a pose in the workshops, surrounded by the workers and the parurier.
Between 1920 and until the mid-1960s Louis Rousselet would be one of the most important Parisian fashion designers.

During the Retro jewelry era, scrolls became one of the most popular design motifs. In this brooch Chaumet perfected the fluidity of the scroll shape. The designer created a great feeling of dynamic in a static jewelry piece. An abstract shape yellow gold part smoothly rolls into a platinum element set in the center. The latter is embellished with Old European and Old Mine cut diamonds.
This high-polished gold brooch by Chaumet Paris has undeniable retro style. However, due to its minimalist contemporary look, this French diamond brooch can be considered a timeless classic.
This Retro Chaumet brooch is made of 18 karat yellow gold and platinum, and accented with Old European cut and old mine cut diamonds (K-M color, VS clarity, total weight approximately 4.50 carats).
The Retro pin measures 2 ½” x 1 ¼” (6 x 3 cm) and weighs 35.4 grams.
The Retro gold brooch is stamped with Chaumet maker's and workshop marks, serial number, French hallmarks for 18 karat gold and platinum.
