This Locket Pendant is a magnificent piece of Austro-Hungarian Garnet, Turquoise and Amethyst jewelry. It is in the Renaissance Revival style and dates to circa 1870. The gems are all set in silver gilt as was the custom of the Austro-Hungarian jewels. In the center is a gorgeous Bohemian Garnet cabochon. The garnet is 9mm by 7mm. Surrounding the garnet are Amethyst, Turquoise and Pearls all set in raised cut down collets. The gems continue onto the bale with a Pearl, Turquoise and Amethyst. The locket opens to reveal places for two photos if desired. I love the way the gems are set in the raised settings on the locket creating a visually stunning and dramatic piece. An Italian renaissance revival pendant in coral.
Magnificent antique pendant, made up with several pieces carved from natural Italian red coral from the Mediterranean sea. This rare piece has been created most probably in Napoles around the 1850. The intricate carvings are mounted from the back with discrete wires crafted in yellow gold of 14 karats and it is fitted with two rings to slide on, in a thin delicate chain. The workmanship and multiple carvings on this piece are magnificent and extremely detailed. They show the portrait of the flora muse adorned with fruits, vines, flowers and leaves. She, in turn, is flanked by two plump cherubs dressed only in ribbons, who represent the Greek-Roman god of wine, Bacchus. They are holding multiple bunches of grapes. Below this composition hang three ornately carved bunches of grapes.

This spectacular gold Egyptian revival charm features a sphinx that has been reverse carved, and hand-painted. This is called an Essex crystal, which is a cut cabochon of crystal with a carved design on the back. The technique of creating this floating effect is very precise, and dates back to the 1860's. This pendant is a vintage piece, featuring the Roman numeral of XL (40) onto it, perhaps dating this piece to 1940. Or this number could refer to something else. This elegant necklace has been crafted with a mesh of wires made up in solid yellow gold of 18 karats. Designed with two dangle drops elements and an Hercules Knot. Fitted with a push box safety lock and a hinged figure 8 for extra security.
Hercules Knot
The Hercules Knot was notably a wedding symbol and also represented the virginity of the bride: this coming from the Roman lore that the Knot symbolized the legendary fertility of Hercules - relating to the girdle of Diana (Artemis) which was captured/retrieved from the Amazon Queen Hippolyta. Later on, the Hercules Knot survived its religious uses with the Ancients and was actually still used during medieval times as a common symbol as well as also being Renaissance love tokens.

In ancient times, pendant necklaces worn by royalty and nobles conferred wealth and prestige. Today, wearing jewelry is about personal expression: Luxury diamond necklaces exude confidence and can symbolize the celebratory nature of a deep romantic relationship, while paper-clip chain-link necklaces designed by the likes of goldsmith Faye Kim are firmly planted in the past as well as the present. For some, necklaces are thought of as being a solely feminine piece, but this widely loved accessory has been gender-neutral for eons.
