The jade carving you see here is no ordinary jade carving. It is a variety of jade known as kosmochlor jade. What, you ask, is kosmochlor jade? Well, it is also known as chromium jadeite. And chromium is the chemical element that gives jadeite its legendary emerald-green coloring. Chromium also gives South American emeralds their legendary emerald green coloring. Chromium jadeite is like jade with an extra helping of green. It's intensely colored jade that is also intensely beautiful.
The jade carving has been certified by Stone Group Labs to be untreated kosmochlor jade from Burma. As the lab certificate explains, "Jadeite, Omphacite and Kosmochlor are distinct yet closely related minerals, commonly intergrown. Western countries refer to all as jade and by their more specific names when identification is possible. In Asia, they may all be collectively referred to as Fei Cui. Kosmochlor may also be referred to as chromium jadeite."

The sleek and permanently stylish platinum Art Deco jewel is composed of two double-strands of platinum chain studded with 49 tiny natural saltwater pearls. The two chains meet at the corners of the rectangular platinum pendant, which is set with fifty-four bright white Old European cut diamonds that total approximately 2.25 carats. The beads showcase a stunning shade of blue, each exhibiting subtle variations in tone, some lighter or darker than others. They feature delicate snowy patterns characteristic of the well-known "Princesa" jade. This particular hue is called "Princesa Blue" in Guatemalan Jadeite. It's important to note that the color is entirely authentic and natural, having undergone no thermal or mechanical treatments.
Guatemalan jade’s physical appearance is granular, with a greasy luster. Its hardness is about seven on the Mohs scale. The refractive index is 1.65-1.67, and the specific gravity is 3.20-3.34.
The necklace is fastened with a very comfortable and beautiful gold plate toggle clasp.
This necklace alternates beads of blue jade with 3 mm 14K gold beads.
The weight of the necklace is 342 grams (12 oz).

A little history:
Guatemalan jade is a rare gem material that comes in many different colors. Blue jade is a rare color.
This jade was prevalent in the ancient Mesoamerican culture; however, its sources were lost for five centuries. The sources for Guatemalan jade were lost for the past five centuries because the Spanish conquistadores did not value jade. Reports from early Spanish explorers document the special status of a gemstone unknown to them, one that would later be called jade.
At the beginning of the Spanish conquest, the Maya people kept the location of their jade mines a secret to protect them from the invaders. Over time, the location of the ancient mines and quarries became forgotten and lost. It was rediscovered less than 50 years ago.
The story of Guatemalan jade rediscovery spans over a century. It involved many American scientists enamored with the jade. Among them were Zelia Nutall, William Niven, Robert Leslie, William Foshag, and Tom and Joyce Barbour.
Carved jades have been found in archaeological sites in Mexico and Central America since the early 1900s. However, no jade specimens were found on-site until much later.
In the 1940s, American geologist William Foshag spent several years in Mexico and Guatemala. He studied the ancient jades and local geology. Foshag wrote that Robert Leslie had discovered jade in 1952 in the Motagua River Valley.
Foshag’s research categorized the Guatemalan jade as jadeite. He found it to be similar to jade found in Burma. This was the beginning of the rediscovery of the Maya jade...
