In 2016 moved to Livingston, Texas where he currently resides. At an early age he began drawing, studying, and creating art which has continued throughout his life. His artwork has changed and evolved through different periods and styles that span for decades. In the early years he was influenced by traditional representational artists and illustrators, then impressionism, surrealism and the avant-garde of modernism captured his imagination. His artistic talent eventually led him to Northern Illinois University where he received Dean List Honors in Fine Art with an emphasis in studio painting. As a studio artist he has produced a body of work in a variety of media painting, drawing, sculpture, print making, and computer art also known as digital art. While in college the artist began searching for an original idea and style of his own. In 1979 when the first apple personal computers became available in the art department. He immediately knew the technology would eventually influence the direction of fine art in the future. It took time to learn how to program and explore the possibilities of computers as a new tool in the creation of art. Personal computers back then did not have the capabilities they have today and were not user-friendly. There were only two fine artists Mark Pinson and I working with computer technology back then. We worked on our own ideas and after completing the programs and turning them into paintings and drawings we collaborated and mounted a two-man exhibition. My first program was a series of interconnected images entitled “Concatenation” paintings and drawings created from the program were exhibited with Mark Pinson’s work entitled “Random” in a two- man show at The Holmes Center Gallery, Northern Illinois University on November 30, 1980. The second program entitled “Visual Music” the paintings and drawings exhibited in a one man show at The Recital Hall Music Building Gallery, Northern Illinois University on April 26, 1981. Followed by an exhibit sponsored by Illinois Bell, works on paper selected a drawing from the Visual Music series for “A New Generation of Artists” at The Lobby Gallery, 225 West Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois, May 14 through June 12, 1981. The artist has participated in exhibitions dating back to 1974. The above exhibitions were selected because they marked a new beginning and direction in the artist’s work that continues to the present day. Go past the everyday backdrops, items, clothing, spaces, etc. in your life. Perhaps think about your favorite color. A memory of an unforgettable sunset, or even a specific moment in your life. I have found especially with memories and emotions, that colors provide a base for those things to exist in our minds. Memories and emotions are inherently fading or fleeting as our lives move forward. My question and focus are how we preserve them for our own personal reasons, growth, or perhaps a way to humble ourselves. Through the use of acrylic paints, graphic design, and color relationships I aim to capture the essence of emotions and memories. This simple, yet elegant, acrylic painting on un-stretched canvas represents an impressive display of the energy and attention to design with which Ushio Shinohara approaches his work. Born in Tokyo in 1932, Ushio Shinohara (nicknamed "Gyu-chan"), is a Japanese Neo-Dadaist artist who has lived and worked in the United States since 1969. Shinohara is well known for his boxing paintings - Shinohara's own style of action painting - which are made by dipping a pair of custom made boxing gloves into paint and unleashing his fists onto swathes of un-stretched canvas. Ushio works in several mediums including painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. In 1960 Ushio helped found the Neo-Dadaism Organizers. Their mission: deviate from any conventional form of art. Akin to European Dadaists, who’s art sought to reveal the customary and often repressive conventions of logical order and rationality, the Neo-Dadaism Organizers embodied a similar ethos. This can chiefly be seen in akushon, meaning “action”, which is the practice of emphasizing the human body as an artistic medium. For Ushio, this sensibility is encapsulated in what has become his personal trinity “be speedy, beautiful, and rhythmical.” Ushio's bright and frequently oversized work has exhibited at prestigious institutions internationally, including the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art; Centre Georges Pompidou; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Japan Society, New York; the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Busan; the Dallas Museum of Art and the Tate Modern, among others. Ushio Shinohara's work was included in International Pop, a landmark exhibition at the Walker Art Center that chronicles the global emergence of Pop art from the 1950s through the early 1970. In addition to an extensive exhibition history, Shinohara has also been a prolific performer — demonstrating the process of his boxing paintings live and in-person at various institutions.
