Sailing to the Sun, Reflection in the Water, Oil , Abstract Landscape, Nature
Located in Houston, TX
Sailing into the Sun is an abstract landscape painting. It is oil on canvas. It is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame. On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms. Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it. Artist Statement: " I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes. The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it". U.S Education: Art Florida Academy Abdon J. Romero Art Studio Chiaroscuro Atelier / Now MIFA Miami Workshops received: . Eastern Glades Series 4 Acrylic on Canvas Contemporary Abstract 36" x 36"
By Eleanor McCarthy
Located in Houston, TX
Eastern Glades Series 4 Acrylic on Canvas Contemporary Abstract 36" x 36" Inspiration for Eastern Glades 4 is from the Memorial Park Conservancy in Houston, Texas As the first significant project of Memorial Park Conservancy's 10-year plan, Clay Family Eastern Glades is another beautiful location for Houstonians to enjoy nature at its finest. Inspired by the original 1930s master plan by landscape architects Hare & Hare, Memorial Park's Eastern Glades section adds nearly 100 acres of open space for recreation, relaxation or quiet reflection. Eleanor McCarthy uses acrylic paints on canvas to create the soothing colors in her new contemporary paintings that were just painted in 2024. Every client sees a different image in her new series of paintings being produced in 2024. The Clay Family Eastern Glades is named after the family of third- and fourth-generation Houstonians Emily and Robert Clay, who donated $10 million toward the park's capital campaign in 2018. If you've never visited or it's been a while, keep reading to learn more about this 100-acre open space located in one of Houston's best green spaces—complete with natural habitats and Hines Lake. The Eastern Glades Series is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame. Eleanor McCarthy is inspired by the scenery of Texas, Southwestern Colorado, and Europe. Modern Light Blue, Brown, and Black Geometric Abstract Circle Pattern Painting
By John Little
Located in Houston, TX
Modern light blue, brown, and black geometric abstract circle pattern painting by textile designer John Little. The work was created as a proposed design for a wallpaper and features the original color codes in the front lower left corner. Currently hung in a solid black frame with a large white margin. Dimensions Without Frame: H 32.75 in. x W 35.63 in. Artist Biography: A painter and textile designer, John Little is best known for gestural works filled with boldly explosive color that reflect the influences of his teacher Hans Hofmann and for his involvement in the Abstract Expressionist movement in East Hampton, where he moved in the late 1940s. In East Hampton Little congregated with Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and the other artists who were the leading innovators in the New York School. John Little was born in Sanford, Alabama. He left home at the age of fourteen to become an artist, and moved to Buffalo, New York, in 1923. After spending a year working as a stevedore on the docks to save money, he enrolled at the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy and developed an interest in singing. In 1927 he moved to New York City where he continued his vocal work and studied operatic literature. He also became involved in textile design, opening his own store in 1920, called John Little Studios: Fabric and Wallpaper Design. He ran the store until 1950. In 1933 John Little resumed his painting studies at the Art Students League in New York under the guidance of George Grosz (1893-1959). The following year he made his first visit to East Hampton, Long Island, which he would eventually call home. Later in the decade, he traveled to Paris where he became familiar with European modernism. On his return to America, he taught textile design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He hired Josephine Watkins to work for him; she later became his wife. Little's textile store and teaching job gave him a financial security that was rare during the Depression, and he never found it necessary to find employment with the Works Progress Administration. At the end of the decade, John Little studied with Hans Hofmann (1880-1966) in New York and Provincetown. Little was greatly influenced by Hofmann, particularly by his views on color theory. In 1942 John Little joined the Navy as an aerial photographer. In the late 1940s he purchased a rundown house on Three Mile Harbor...

By Carl Dixon

Sculptural relief image of the biblical story from Genisis 28:12 about Jacob's Dream of a ladder reaching up to the heaves from the earth. The work is done on wood and it painted and lacquered over. It is signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. Artist biography: The Mississippi-born Dixon is a self-taught artist. A teacher spotted Dixon’s talent, when he was the first black student to take an art course in his newly integrated high school. Carl decided to get vocational training as a brick mason, but he returned to art-making, when his childhood friend, Ben Oliver, persuaded him to try his hand at wood carving on a router machine. The two aspiring artisans began making decorative address signs but soon moved on to bas-relief portraits of Michael Jackson, Prinz, and other black pop cultural icons for neighborhood kids. (Carl made an image in this style of my father, Andy the Prayer Warrior.) Dixon was inspired to create carved wood paintings...

Finding My Way 2 , oil on paper on wood Abstract, "THREE I's", Framed
Located in Houston, TX
Finding My Way 2 Cheryl D. McClure oil on paper on wood panel 20 x 20 x 0 in Inv #: 795 Price $1800 To make my paintings I have come to the realization that I use what I call the ‘Three I’s” of INFLUENCES, INTUITION. and INTENT. Like a lot of artists, McClure’s interest in art developed early in childhood. She recalls, “When I was eight years old, I begged my dad to let me take an after-school painting class. I was shocked when I got there and found out they were painting with paint by number kits. I did not want to do that. I hate coloring inside the lines. So, the teacher allowed me to look for images to use as inspiration. In my memory, I think the first one must have been a reproduction of a Cezanne landscape. I just did what I did all on my own, but I loved mixing colors. Then my dad died, and we moved from Oklahoma to Texas. Sadly, I never really did anything else until I was in my twenties. I then took up painting again all on my own and trying to learn from other artists demonstrating their painting techniques and taking workshops. I have been painting ever since, more than forty years.” She continues, “For many years I only painted with acrylics or mixed media collage. In 2005, I also started painting with encaustic and have gone back to using oil paint again. I suppose acrylic remains my dominant medium. Mixing it up now and then keeps me on my toes and is a great way to learn. Each medium can teach you certain aspects of painting others do not. Each medium has its strengths and weaknesses depending on what you want to express. You can learn from all. I did not love watercolor because it took too much pre-planning. But I learned a lot about negative shapes and composition. I learned a lot with pastel and charcoal about making marks. By working back and forth with different media, I am growing as a painter.” If I used only intent, I would more than likely be disappointed because my imagined intent is always elusive. I get more than I imagined by not setting too many rules about how to get there. Using all of these factors, I can use the knowledge of formal issues that comes from viewing a lot of art and, also, from being in the studio making art all of the time. Using that comprehension of formal design as an aid to intuitively know what is the right relationship of color, mark, space, etc. is the intent. Intention is necessary to direct you to explore the former two. Intention also demands you delve more into your own reasons for making art. 2020 University of Texas, College of Pharmacy Partnership Exhibit, Tyler, TX Beauty of Art and Medicine IV, Rogers Nursing and Health Sciences Building, Tyler Junior College, Tyler, TX Stable, Cerulean Gallery, Dallas, TX 2019 Mississippi Art Colony Fall Travel Show, juror, Stanley Kurth Small Works, Gallery Mack, Seattle, WA 2017 Black Tie (optional), Invitational, Adam Peck Gallery, Provincetown, Mass. "Shoved by Beauty" White, Pink, Green, Blue Toned Abstract Mixed Media Painting
Located in Houston, TX
Large white, pink, and green abstract mixed media painting by Memphis artist, Hank Gray. Unframed but framing options are available. Signed by artist at the bottom of the canvas. Titled and dated at the back. Artist Biography: Painting oils on canvas and working with brushes, rags, knives, and rulers, Gray says his abstract works reflect what he calls "perfectly balanced chaos." He's motivated by such conflicts as sex versus hypocrisy, nature versus industry. "It's all very visceral," says Gray, "and even if people don't like my style, I want them to find the balance in the work and feel the emotion." As he paints, Gray locks out the logical part of his brain and lets the creative side "go full speed ahead, guns blazing." Sometimes, though, what he later takes off the canvas is as important as what he applies. That's where the knives and rulers come in. "I put all that frenetic energy, or chaos, on the canvas and slowly scrape it off, pick it apart." You might say he also took that same approach to his life. A native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Gray, earned a business degree and went to work for his father as an options trader. "My dad was verbose, outgoing, with a fiery temper. I would call him an angry, highly intelligent Peter Pan figure. He wanted to stay young forever. He worked hard and played hard, and I tried to protect him from himself. Many nights I'd be putting this 6-4, 200-pound man to bed," says Gray. Shortly before the fatal plane crash, father and son had an argument and the son left the company. After his father's death, Gray was devastated: "We hadn't spoken in a month. I had lots of anger, lots of guilt. At the end I felt like my will killed him, that I wanted him to be gone." With his father's estate in disarray, Gray found himself handling numerous lawsuits. Once the estate was settled, he took up commodities trading. He also started painting in earnest, but lacked the confidence to give up his job. Then, earlier this year, he experienced what he calls an epiphany. While playing with Vivian, one of his two young daughters by his first marriage, he painted a circus big top...
