Baby Buddha- represents the Buddha right after his birth pointing toward Heaven and Earth so they can witness his first steps. Twenty years ago I had a near identical Japanese Baby Buddha. This one has a finer patina and may be more finely cast, but is extremely similar in almost every way. It was made in the same workshop, probably by the same hand. Fortunately, the other one had an inscription on it (this one does not, but is almost certainly the same age as the other one plus or minus 30 years). Located in Ukiah, CA
This is a fierce Buddhist deity cast in iron. Probably from the Dali Kingdom, 10/11thC South of China. Possibly early Tibetan. Solid cast. Condition as shown in photos- generally good, with an ancient iron patina that grows out of the metal. He is missing one hand. He emanates a powerful presence. Currently, he is securely attached to an old plexiglass stands. He is a very good size at 10 inches tall, by 4.5 wide inches by 3.5 inches deep. As he is solid-cast, he is quite heavy. He is holding a skull full of brains in his left hand and has a snake around his neck. He is naked except for a full garland of human heads around his body. Unsure what the 3 prong head-piece is composed of- Nagas? Will be in January auction on live auctioneers

Japanese Silk Scroll of Daruma Hanabusa Itcho Edo Period
Located in Atlanta, GA
A Japanese hanging scroll attributed to Edo period painter Hanabusa Itcho (1652-1724). The artwork features a silk roundel nicely mounted in golden brocade background. The painting depicts a robed Daruma seated in meditation with his eyes widely open. The rendition of the famous monk, one of the most beloved subjects in Japanese art, was extremely minimalistic. With just a few effective ink strokes and patches of watercolor, it managed to successfully highlight the essence and spirit of Daruma. The roundel was possibly a center fragment of a larger painting by the artist and was remounted historically. Signed with one of his artist's names. It comes with a wood scroll box with ink inscription of title and artist formal name. For a painting with the same signature, see number 1881,1210,0.1719 in the collection of the British Musuem. China 618-907 AD Tang Dynasty Pair Of Polychromate Earth Spirits Zhenmushou
Located in Miami, FL
Pair of Earths Spirits "Zhenmushou" from the China Tang Dynasty 618-907 AD. A beautiful and rare pair of "Earths Spirits guardians" from the Yunnan province region in the ancient China. This was created in clay earthenware pottery during the Tang Dynasty period between 618 and 907 AD. Featuring the molded figures of two seated guardians with decorations with polychrome pigmentations. The figures are seated on their haunches with cloven hooves planted firmly on the base looking forward with their front legs in a straight position. Both with face and body alert expressions on a rectangular base. Earth spirits usually appear in pairs, one with a human head and the other with a lion head. Their supernatural powers, indicated by antlers, spiky flanges and flames, enable them to confront evil spirits and protect any precincts within their gaze. Have been believed to protect the living by keeping the spirits of the dead from inappropriately roaming the world outside the tomb. Zhenmushou or guardian deities, developed from a line of protective spirits found normally in pairs at the front of Tang dynasty tombs. They served both to protect the figure from untoward spirits, and the outside world from the roving spirit of the dead. Combining features from a number of animals to form the perfect mythic beast, these mythical creatures were perceived to be the ideal guardians of the dead The semi human faced figure has a measures of 11.25 by 4.5 by 5.75 inches (28.57 x 11.43 x 14.60 Cm). The mythological lion animal figure has a measures of 10 by 5 by 5.8 inches (24.5 x 12.7 x 14.73 Cm). Tang dynasty or Tang Empire, was an imperial dynasty of China that ruled from 618 to 907, with an interregnum between 690 and 705. It was preceded by the Sui dynasty and followed by the Five Dynasties and Tend Kingdoms period.
