Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is a euphoria that affects the deep recesses of one’s consciousness. As is this experience of the sublime, his work is largely abstract. This large colorful horizontal artwork is 23 inches high by 41 inches wide. The sides of this textured, original mixed-media artwork are painted and it does not require framing. It is hand-signed and dated by the artist on front right corner and on the back. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world. Hand printed silkscreen print, numbered and signed by Sir Peter Blake. The original photograph for the cover was taken at Michale Cooper's Flood Street Studio in Chelsea on March 30th 1967. The copyright of the photo remains with Apple, the Beatles management company. In 2007, after 40 years of trying, Peter Blake managed to get the Beatles to agree to publish a limited edition of 500 silkscreen prints on 410gsm Somerset cotton linter archive fine art paper medium, with the sheet size being 27 inches high by 26.25 inches wide. The image size being 19.5 inches square. Archival pigment inks were used with specialist glazing and an additional spot varnishing. 29 screens were hand applied to print the edition, being 27 colours plus 2 glazes. Every print bears the Apple logo embossed in the bottom centre. Published by Pete Smith of Pierre Optique, who negotiated the rights, Peter Blake was paid £10 for each signature and allowed to keep the 50 Artists Proofs. Howard Daum Untitled, 1972 Signed and dated on verso Oil on board 10 1/8 x 8 inches Howard Daum was born in Poland. His family lived in Lodz until he turned 14, when he and his mother left the counrtry. They settled in Montreal, Canada, where Daum learned from the artist Alexander Bercovitch from 1934 to 1937. In 1938, Daum and his mom traveled to New York and chose the Bronx as their home. After finishing high school in 1940, Daum received a scholarship to the Art Students League. There, he learned from teachers like Will Barnet, Cameron Booth, Morris Kantor, Harry Sternberg, and Vaclav Vytlacil, who was a key mentor. Vytlacil had studied under modern painter Hans Hofmann in Munich in 1921 and helped start the American Abstract Artists group in 1936. In 1943 and 1944, Daum served in the U. S. Army in Mississippi before coming back to New York. During 1944 and 1945, he had lessons with Hofmann at his school in Greenwich Village. Daum's art during this time became more abstract, using bold and bright colors with clear brushstrokes.
