Beautiful hand woven tapestry by renowned Israeli sculptor Menashe Kadishman. Super quality, and visually stunning. It measures about 32.5 X 27.5 inches It is signed with initials. This is similar to an Aubusson style flat weave hand woven wool tapestry. This is most probably from the George Goldstein Atelier in Jerusalem. (Originally known as Nazareth Tapestries) They produced genuine handmade Gobelin tapestries in Israel). This does not bear a label. In 1964 the first French style weaving studio was inaugurated in Israel, in the new city of Nazareth Ilit. With the encouragement of master Jean Lurcat, woven upon several contemporary masters’ original sketches, such as Jean Lurcat, Hans Hartung, Adolph Gottlieb, Karel Appel, Yaacov Agam, Mordecai Ardon, Reuven Rubin, Danny Caravan, and more. Some of these tapestries encountered their moments of glory during the international exhibitions, such as in the Museum of Modern Art (NY), “Expo Montreal” (Canada), Biennale of Lausanne (Switzerland), and others. In 1967, after the Six-Day War, Nazareth’s workshop closed its doors and returned to Jerusalem where he opened a new studio with a young team made up of eighteen artisans, dedicating their work more specifically towards Israeli artists. The tapestries are woven upon the original sketches of Yohanan Simon, Naftali Bezem. Filipino Fire by Frog King Kwok (Hong Kong, born 1947) Arguably the most prolific performance artist in Hong Kong, Frog King Kwok (Kwok Mang Ho) in his ubiquitous artistic persona ‘Frog King’, blurs the boundary between everyday life and art, a practice of a perpetual nature, which the artist describes as ‘no beginning and no ending’. The advent of the information age made Kwok realize that a massive amount of photographs and news coverage of his performances as well as his early site-specific, process-based installations have been accumulating and circulating on the Internet. The information and images exist in a way that defies chronology; photographs from The Plastic Bag Project (1978) are as prominent on Google as a picture taken the month before at a gallery opening. It is fascinating for an artist who is approaching seventy to witness almost five decades of his artistic career collapsing into a single plane. Loren Munk (American, b. 1951), mixed media painting signed "Munk '89", 13" x 19" inches sheet, framed 20.25" x 26" inches. This one is African American kids in a park at the water fountain. Titled "Squart" (squirt) The artist Loren Munk (born 1951) is primarily known for his YouTube nickname James Kalm as an uploader of videos about New York exhibitions, amongst others. He presents himself as a maker of contemporary paintings for several decades and of cubist paintings of urban imagery. Munk has received accolades for his drawings and mosaics. He differs from traditional mosaic artists by the manner in which he incorporates glass into his decorative paintings. His unique and innovative use of materials such as mirror, gold-leaf and glass mosaic affirmed him as a founding force of Kitsch Art and a leading member of New York Neo-Expressionism. Munk's work debuted in SoHo in 1981 with a double show at J. Fields Gallery and Gabrielle Bryers. Since then, he has overseen an international career. In addition to exhibiting in Brazil, France, Germany and the United States, Munk has received national and overseas, public and private commissions. He is well represented in important collections throughout Europe, South and North America and the Middle East. Most recently, Munk has been producing a series of paintings which tackle the subject of art itself through a historical and diagrammatic lens. Munk documents the New York art world in YouTube videos, using the name James Kalm. He was born in Eisenstadt, Hungary, in the year 5521 (1761), nearly two hundred years ago. The city of his birth was a seat of learning for centuries, and his family was a family of scholars and Rabbis.Rabbi Akiba Eger, who was Rabbi in the famous community of Pressburg (also Hungary, but since 1913 it belonged to Czechoslovakia and was called Bratislava).
