Kevin Larmon was born in Syracuse, New York in 1955. He grew up on a small horse farm. Larmon's mother was a school secretary while his father was a construction worker. He graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and moved to New York City as an undergraduate senior, where he finished his schooling at the New York Studio School. In the late 1970s, Larmon played guitar for Mudmen, a three piece band in the East Village of New York City with Craig Gillis playing bass, Mike Caffes playing drums, and percussionist Jill Burkhart. Mudmen played in venues such as CBGB, Danceteria, A7 (bar), Pyramid Club, Mudd Club, and The Limelight. Larmon started making still life paintings in 1979. He has also worked with atmospheric drawings and paintings since 1989, many of which are made on canvas or wood. In 2009, he began to paint his cell paintings. Larmon's paintings are built up through layers of collage and paint. Most famously, Larmon's work includes collages of gay male pornography that have been painted over with images that exist somewhere in between abstraction and form. These images are often anatomical. Conceptually, Larmon's work deals with issues such as the male body image and fascist culture. Similarly, Larmon's drawings on wood deal with ambiguously anatomical and abstracted forms. His work has been associated with the post-conceptualism and neo-conceptual art movements, which were prominent aspects of exhibitions at Gallery Nature Morte and with Tricia Collins and Richard Milazzo shaping the nature of painting after the rise of conceptual art. Larmon was also associated with Feature Inc., a gallery that was first established in Chicago in 1984. In August 1988, the gallery's director, known as Hudson, moved Feature Inc. to New York City. Larmon's first exhibition with Feature Inc. occurred in 1987 in Chicago, Illinois. Over the years, Hudson and Larmon would work together on many exhibitions. As a young artist, Larmon spent his Thursdays working to sustain Gallery Nature Morte together with the gallery owners, Alan Becher and Peter Nagy, when the gallery existed in New York City. Larmon was heavily influenced by his contemporaries at Gallery Nature Morte such as Robin Weglinski, Joel Otterson, and Steven Parrino. Other influential artists include Oliver Wasow, Robert Gober, Nancy Shaver, Carter Hodgkin, and Steven Wolfe. Larmon also drew inspiration from Rembrandt, Giorgio Morandi, Jackson Pollock, and Agnes Martin. During his time as a professor at Syracuse University, Larmon made an impact on many emerging artists including Deborah Roberts and Paul Weiner. Larmon participated in Aperto 86 at the 1986 Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy, where his paintings were exhibited at the Corderie at the Arsenal. From 1983–2013, Larmon was invited to exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York; Feature Inc, New York, New York; Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, Arizona; the University Art Museum at the University of California, Berkeley; the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut; Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Visual Arts Museum, New York, New York; the Morris Museum, Morristown, New Jersey; Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, now the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio; Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, Colorado; Jersey City Museum, Jersey City, New Jersey; and the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2013, Larmon was included in a group show at the Leslie Sacks Gallery in Los Angeles, California alongside artists Christo, Jim Dine, Pablo Picasso, Chuck Close, Howard Hodgkin, Jasper Johns, Marino Marini, Henri Matisse, Karel Nel, Sam Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney, Robert Rauschenberg, and Sebastião Salgado. SALE ONE WEEK ONLY "Red Harmony" is an abstract painting that does have a sculptural presence in the shapes of the red areas. The lush greens blend various shades into a background that while it does contrast sharply with the reds, it is not in conflict. The overall effect of this work is dynamic in its energy while at the same time harmonious. One of the original Cass Corridor artists from the 1960s William Antonow studied at the School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (now the College for Creative Studies) and at Wayne State University, where he received his BFA (1967) and MA (1970.) Antonow’s first one-person show at the Willis Gallery in 1971, represented a radical departure from his early work – abstract bronzes shown at the Michigan Artists exhibitions at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1969 and 1970. A founding member of the Willis, Antonow publicized his exhibition with a cryptic invitation stating, “art isn’t anything.” Echoing the challenge implicit in the exhibition announcement, the works in the show consisted of precariously balanced piles of such non-art materials as wood crates and barrels, corrugated paper or cardboard, cellophane and beer cans. These brash, paint-slathered juxtapositions of salvaged objects were perhaps the first example of the nascent “tough art” aesthetic of the Cass Corridor. This painted ceramic tile by Italo Scanga, epitomizes the characteristics of his oeuvre. Polychrome and vibrant art from the Memphis Milano era. This is signed with his initials. This is reminiscent of the mid century work of Jean Lurcat and Jean Picart le Doux. Italo Scanga (June 6, 1932 - July 7, 2001), an Italian-born American artist, was known for his sculptures, prints and, paintings, mostly created from found objects. In his youth in Calabria, Italy he worked as a cabinetmaker's apprentice and studies sculpture with a man who carved statues of saints. Italo Scanga was an innovative neo Dada, neo-Expressionist, and neo-Cubist multimedia artist who made assemblage, collage, sculptures of ordinary objects and created prints, glass, and ceramic works. Modern Italian abstract geometric folk art. Scanga's materials included natural objects like branches and seashells, as well as kitsch figurines, castoff musical instruments and decorative trinkets salvaged from flea markets and thrift shops. He combined these ingredients into free-standing assemblages, which he then painted. Although visually ebullient, the results sometimes referred to gruesome episodes from Greek mythology or the lives and deaths of martyred saints. He considered his artistic influences to be sweepingly pan-cultural, from African sculpture to Giorgio de Chirico. He often collaborated with the sculptor Dale Chihuly, who was a close friend. Constructed of wood and glass, found objects or fabric, his ensembles reflect a trio of activities—working, eating, and praying. These activities dominate the lives of those who live close to the land, but they are also activities that are idealized by many who contemplate, romantically, a simpler, bucolic life. Italo graduated from Michigan State University where he befriended fellow artists Richard Merkin and David Pease. He studied under Lindsey Decker who introduces him to welding and sculpture after his initial interest in photography. Also studies with Charles Pollock, the brother of Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock. His first teaching job was at University of Wisconsin (through 1964). where he met Harvey Littleton, a fellow instructor. He later moves to Providence, Rhode Island,I to teach at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Is colleagues with artists Richard Merkin and Hardu Keck. Starts a correspondence with HC Westermann. Spends summers teaching at Brown University; colleague of Hugh Townley. Moves to State College, PA, and teaches at Pennsylvania State University for one year. Meets artists Juris Ubans, Harry Anderson, Richard Frankel, and Richard Calabro, who remain friends throughout his career. 1967: David Pease helps him get a tenure track position at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA, . Artists he works closely with include Ernest Silva, Lee Jaffe, Donald Gill, and William Schwedler. 20th century modern abstract oil on canvas titled 'Rectifie', attributed to French artist Norbert Palmade. The painting is not signed but was bought from his atelier and with a collection of his paintings and is therefore attributed to him. The work is titled and dated to the rear stretcher. A highly colourful, energetic and impactful painting. The painting is very thickly applied in an impasto technique in parts and is therefore also somewhat sculptural as a piece of art. Sand has been added to the paint to give the image great texture. A strong and impactful painting, a statement piece in any room. Norbert Palmade spent much of his early years living in Morocco. He arrived there in 1930 at the age of two and stayed until 1947 when he returned home to France. He finished his schooling in Hyères in the south of France, then travelled up to Paris to study architecture, though he always yearned to return to the South of France. In Paris, aged 25, he set up a public works business and worked as an architect right up until his retirement in 1991. Throughout this journey Palmade never stopped painting, at first in watercolours. He had always drawn, then moved on to gouache, oil and finally in the last twenty years, acrylic. The latter suited his rapid handling of paint well. He says of himself that he had no particular speciality. He would paint whatever gave him pleasure, although a large part of his heart belonged to those early years in Morocco and he painted many a canvas with subjects from this country. He took part in exhibitions in a number of towns near the south coast of France including, Sanary, Le Pradet and Ollioules. He was also the guest of honour at the Academy of the Var. Geometric abstraction is a form of abstract art based on the use of geometric forms sometimes, though not always, placed in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective (non-representational) compositions. Yuri Larin, also Yuriy Larin (1936–2014) is a Russian painter and graphic artist, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1977. Larin was born in Moscow to the family of a key Soviet political leader, Nikolay Bukharin, and Anna Larina. Following the arrests of his parents in 1938 and until 1946, he lived with his relatives, and following the arrest of his step-father, he was taken to an orphanage near Stalingrad. A hydraulic engineer by training, he worked at the construction of the Saratov Hydro-Electric Plant and at design institutions. In 1960, he began his studies at the department of drawing and painting of the Krupskaya People’s University of Arts, and then, from 1965 until 1970, he studied at the department of art design at the Moscow State Higher School of Arts and Industry (the former Stroganov Institution). His career as a professional artist began in the early 1970s. From 1970 until 1986, he taught at the Moscow 1905 Memorial Arts School. His letter to prof. Vittorio Strada sent in 1980 contained the first statement of his artistic method he would later dub the “concept of the limit state”. He quit teaching after a serious illness, when he lost the ability to use his right hand. He only worked with his left hand since 1986. He died and was buried in Moscow. As a turning point in the artist’s career was a period when he worked at the House of Creativity “Cheluskinskaya” near Moscow. Starting from this period landscapes, portraits and still-lifes are drawn from memory. Using only some pencil sketches that are done from real life. Long walks around the neighborhoods of Cheluskinskaya, trips to Abramtsevo, Klazma served as a strong impetus to the development of cycle of Moscow region landscapes. 1977 Became part of Moscow Union of Artists in USSR. “Watercolors of Y.B.Larin are the world of senciar relationships between the artist and nature. The plots of his works are extremely simple, unsophisticated, but behind all that there is a whole concept: the living nature is shaped by the eyes of the artist into one-piece space masses, human creations as ships, cranes, bridges get soft, kind forms; dissolved they become part of complete, modern and artistically convincing form” (V.A.Volkov. From the reference given to Y.Larin to become part of Moscow Union of Artists in 1975) 1977 Yuriy Larin directs a group of young Moscow artists in their trip to Olskiy area of Magadan region. Creates a series of landscapes of Magadan nature. 1980 In the letter to V.Strada finally justifies the theoretical part of his artistic method, later calls it the concept of limit state. The end of the 1970s - the beginning of the 1980s Devoted four years to the translation of the book of S.Cohen, professor of Princeton University, about N.I.Bukharin. Ye.A.Gnedin was helping him to translate the book, they were meeting every Thursday. Afterwards, while publishing the Russian version of the book in the USA the translators Y.LArin and Ye.Gnedin were credited under pseudonyms Ye. and Y. Chetvergovy. Yevgeniy Alexandrovich Gnedin is a prominent Soviet diplomat, staff member of M.M. Litvinov, died in 1983. Y.Larin considers him to be one of the most incredible people of the XX century. Meets famous collectionner from Moscow Ya.Ye. Rubinshtein, who buys six works of the artist (oil and watercolor); Fall, 1981–1982 Again works at the House of Creativity “Goryachiy Klyuch”. As a result the Caucasus series are enlarged with first oil works. The long contact with the nature of Caucasus influenced greatly the creative development of the artist. 1980 The artist creates the cycle of the watercolors of Moscow region in winter, the part of which will be purchased by Ya.Ye. Rubinstein and the Russian Museum; V.Volkov indicated in the works “a new approach to the light” Fall, 1981–1982 Again works at the House of Creativity “Goryachiy Klyuch”. As a result the Caucasus series are enlarged with first oil works. The long contact with the nature of Caucasus influenced greatly the creative development of the artist. 1982 First own exhibition in Moscow Drama Theatre after M.N.Yermolova (together with Ye.N.Kravchenko). Mostly presented the paintings of the last decade that were painted in the central Russia, Krasnodar and Magadan regions. The exhibition and the discussion that took place afterwards helped to open up Y.Larin. He met the ambassador of Italy to USSR Giovanni Migliuolo and became friends for a long period of time. 1979-1985 Within a few years during summer vacations Yuriy Larin works in Baltic. Creates a cycle of graphic watercolors on German paperboard. The landscapes on the constructive base greatly differ from Moscow and Caucasus cycles. Fall, 1983 Trip to Armenia with his close friend Yu.M. Garushyants, historian. The result of that trip were thirty watercolor papers that continued the Caucasus cycle. 1985 In the almanac “Soviet Graphic” there is a publication about the watercolors of the artist that was written by G. Yelshevskaya. December, 1985 Underwent the neurosurgery; as a consequence the loss of strength and skill in his right hand. 1987 Death of his wife Inga Ballod  First personal exhibition overseas: exhibition of watercolors in the gallery Books&Company Art, NY, USA. Since then takes part in different foreign exhibitions. 1988 N.I.Bukharin’s rehabilitation, after that Yuriy Larin was able to change his patronymic “Borisovich” to “Nikolayevich” 1989 Gets married. The wife - Olga Arsenyevna Maksakova, doctor, Lead researcher at the Institute of neurosurgery named after Burdenko. Personal exhibition in Central House of Artists in Krymskiy Val.
