Located in Surfside, FL
Titled: Calabash Hand signed, dated and titled. Sheila Elias (born in Chicago, Illinois) is an American artist. Her work is Neo Expressionist, Feminist Pop Art. Her works have been featured in exhibitions across North America and at the Liberty show at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Elias graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, lives and works in Miami, Florida and in New York City. As an artist and art historian, Elias works with the layers of life and art history, seeking in it a connection between art aesthetics and social consciousness. She has exhibited with diverse artists, Larry Rivers, Bob Stanley, Ford Crull, Sol LeWitt, Mark Tobey, Walter Darby Bannard, Clyde Butcher. Her work spans the disciplines of painting, digital mixed media, sculpture, installation and performance. Her inspiration to be an artist began with the work that Matisse created (La Cirque) in the library of the Art Institute of Chicago. Paul Wieghardt (from the Bauhaus School in Germany), was her art teacher at SAIC. She was influenced by the Marisol, Claes Oldenburg and Jean Dubuffet. Her sculptures also reveal the influence of Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg. We also have a work from her Pompidou Series (1979-1981) built around the X in the raw, exposed architecture of the Centre Georges Pompidou in the center of Paris designed by Richard Rodgers and Renzo Piano. Gets married. The wife - Inga Yakovlevna Ballod, an architect by training, writer and journalist. 1970-1974 Worked from life on landscapes (watercolor and oil). Works in traditional realistic direction, the main aim is to deliver different conditions of the nature (landscape conditions) 1972 Welcomes his son Nikolay from 1972 Takes part in Moscow, Russian and All-Union exhibitions; the second half of the 1970s Works on portraits, still-lifes, nude, continuing working on landscapes 1974 Trip to Kuban as a part of the group of the Union of Artist of RSFSR, the creation of watercolor landscapes of local nature, which set the beginning of the cycle “Caucasus”; Yuriy Larin works harder on the creation of his own formal signature, and on his own theory of art (for details see the letter of Y.Larin to V.Strada) 1975 First trip to the House of Creativity of the Union of Artists “Goryachiy Klyuch”, creation of new watercolors of Caucasus cycle. 1976 The end of the nature period. As a turning point in the artist’s career was a period when he worked at the House of Creativity “Cheluskinskaya” near Moscow. Starting from this period landscapes, portraits and still-lifes are drawn from memory. Using only some pencil sketches that are done from real life. Long walks around the neighborhoods of Cheluskinskaya, trips to Abramtsevo, Klazma served as a strong impetus to the development of cycle of Moscow region landscapes. 1977 Became part of Moscow Union of Artists in USSR. “Watercolors of Y.B.Larin are the world of senciar relationships between the artist and nature. The plots of his works are extremely simple, unsophisticated, but behind all that there is a whole concept: the living nature is shaped by the eyes of the artist into one-piece space masses, human creations as ships, cranes, bridges get soft, kind forms; dissolved they become part of complete, modern and artistically convincing form” (V.A.Volkov. From the reference given to Y.Larin to become part of Moscow Union of Artists in 1975) “Yuriy Borisovich Larin appears to me as a serious and deep artist,... mature artist. His watercolors are of proof of having coloristic gift, high culture and material understanding” (M.P.Miturich. From the reference given to Y.Larin to become part of Moscow Union of Artists in 1975) 1977 Yuriy Larin directs a group of young Moscow artists in their trip to Olskiy area of Magadan region. Creates a series of landscapes of Magadan nature. 1980 In the letter to V.Strada finally justifies the theoretical part of his artistic method, later calls it the concept of limit state. The end of the 1970s - the beginning of the 1980s Devoted four years to the translation of the book of S.Cohen, professor of Princeton University, about N.I.Bukharin. Ye.A.Gnedin was helping him to translate the book, they were meeting every Thursday. Afterwards, while publishing the Russian version of the book in the USA the translators Y.LArin and Ye.Gnedin were credited under pseudonyms Ye. and Y. Chetvergovy. Yevgeniy Alexandrovich Gnedin is a prominent Soviet diplomat, staff member of M.M. Litvinov, died in 1983. Y.Larin considers him to be one of the most incredible people of the XX century. Meets famous collectionner from Moscow Ya.Ye. Rubinshtein, who buys six works of the artist (oil and watercolor); Fall, 1981–1982 Again works at the House of Creativity “Goryachiy Klyuch”. As a result the Caucasus series are enlarged with first oil works. The long contact with the nature of Caucasus influenced greatly the creative development of the artist. 1980 The artist creates the cycle of the watercolors of Moscow region in winter, the part of which will be purchased by Ya.Ye. Rubinstein and the Russian Museum; V.Volkov indicated in the works “a new approach to the light” Fall, 1981–1982 Again works at the House of Creativity “Goryachiy Klyuch”. Creates a cycle of graphic watercolors on German paperboard. The landscapes on the constructive base greatly differ from Moscow and Caucasus cycles. Larry Rivers LARRY RIVERS (hand signed and inscribed first edition book), 1989 Hardback monograph with a dust jacket (hand signed and inscribed "Enjoy the Matisse" Signed, dated and inscribed by Larry Rivers in red marker on the title page 11 3/5 × 9 4/5 inches Lavishly illustrated hardback monograph with dust jacket on the occasion of the artist's career retrospective. Text is by the distinguished art historian and Princeton professor Sam Hunter. Hand signed, dated and dedicated in red marker on the title page. Inscription reads: To Joanne and Ira Enjoy the Matisse Larry Rivers, April 2, 1992 About the book: Hunter, Sam. LARRY RIVERS. 358 pp. with 400 illustrations, including 155 plates in color. Folio, cloth. New York, Rizzoli, 1989. New York: Rizzoli, 1989. First edition. Hardcover. 358 pages. Retrospective monograph on Larry Rivers. Features text by Sam Hunter. Includes 400 illustrations of which 155 are in color. Publisher's Blurb: Rivers' public persona as an artist combines that of bohemian outsider, sensualist and entertainer. His best-known images of the 1960s--Dutch Masters cigars, French money, cigarette packs--became Pop icons. Eschewing abstraction, he came up with startling, disquieting figures, such as his obese, sagging mother-in-law depicted in the nude with brutal honesty ( Double Portrait of Berdie ). Yet there is more to Rivers than the hipster, as this lavishly illustrated monograph by a former Princeton art historian shows. Hunter makes a case for Rivers as a social realist: witness his powerful construction piece Ghetto Stoop or recent works that include searching portraits of Primo Levi...

Large Abstract Expressionist Figure Handmade Paper Etching Silkscreen Print
By Sam Messer
Located in Surfside, FL
This is done on a very interesting handmade paper (Japanese?) it is hand signed and numbered. In this print the artist Sam Messer uses bold contrasting colors in a gestural manner. Messer's work, so apparently spontaneous or impulsive in its emphasis on highly dramatic gestural brushstrokes and intense color, is, in fact, carefully considered. The treatment of the composition conveys dynamic movement through the sweep...

Large Cubist Musical Painting by Red Hammond
Located in New York, NY
Red Hammond (American) The Klue, 1986 Oil on canvas 65 1/4 x 53 1/2 x 1 1/2 in. Signed, dated, and inscribed verso Artist statement sourced from Red Hammond's website: ORIGINALITY As an artist I put myself into the piece of art not to achieve originality for its own sake, but to be honest to, to follow the work. Immersion in the making ensures that the work will be authentic -.that its uniqueness allows the work to emanate its own light, encouraging the viewer to look and to see. While not initially apparent, my paintings typically have numerous, subtle inflections that are often hidden at first glance because the large primary, usually black forms, are strong and register first. SHAPES AND EMOTIONS I place significant emphasis on my ability to invent personal shapes. When put together, they establish a dialogue within the painting. I start without any preconceived idea for the painting and do not work from drawing in order to maintain the spontaneity and challenge to work through a solution - to remain fresh and capable of creating surprises for both myself and the viewer. Working instinctually, , I grope around, figuring out how the feelings I have manifest themselves in a specific shape or shapes and how to achieve the overall mood I’m searching for in a particular piece. SYMBOLS AND MEANING I build a painting with symbols that go beyond words, creating works that may appear somewhat opaque, mysterious, at times. This encourages engagement on the part of the viewer and allows each viewer to arrive at their own ideas concerning the works’ meaning. Viewers of art often confuse subject matter with content. A cow in a field is a cow in a field - that is subject matter. Content is what the artist puts in of him or herself. That is an intangible that is difficult to decipher. I find the early work of the American abstract expressionists and the artifacts and ritual art of indigenous peoples and tribal cultures to be inspirations. COMPLETION Often I’m sure that I have completed a painting and for that moment in time I probably have. Sometimes, however, hours, days or several years later, I look at again and realize that while I was correct for that moment, the painting’s potential was never realized. So I begin the process of working that painting again, and this process can go on for years until I’ve finally got the painting to where it needs to be in order for it to be fully realized. ART AS THERAPY AND DISCOVERY Like life, art is not just about self-improvement but also about self-discovery. If I’m not working on getting better as a painter, improving my paint application or pushing myself to expand my limits as a person, I feel I’m letting myself down and falling short of my potential as an artist. Each day in the studio is a mini-metaphor for life that demands and rewards patience.… Without it, I end up with a big...
