Keith Haring (untitled) Dolphin lithograph 1982 (Keith Haring prints)
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Keith Haring (untitled) Dolphin lithograph 1982: Double-sided lithographic insert from the seminal, spiral bound 1982 Keith Haring Tony Shafrazi gallery exhibition catalog published on the occasion of Haring’s first gallery-based solo exhibition. From a limited edition of 2000. Offset lithograph; 9 x 9 inches. Condition: very good overall vintage condition with only some minor signs of aging. Published by Tony Shafrazi gallery New York, 1982. Unsigned from an edition of 2000. Well suited for matting and framing. Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990), a Neo-Pop and Graffiti artist, had a short but prolific career centered on a vision to unite “high art,” urban aesthetics, and public spaces using humorous, irreverent, and poignant works. Born in Pennsylvania, Haring attended the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh for two years, planning to become a commercial artist. He found this path unsatisfying, and instead chose to study at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he met fellow artists Jean Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. Haring immersed himself in the culture of the city’s streets and clubs, and, in 1980, began covering the blank billboards on subway station walls with his Subway drawings in chalk. Haring’s bold public art attracted the attention of several galleries, and, by the early 1980s, he was painting Neo-Pop works and large murals full time. In an effort to make his art widely accessible, Haring opened the Pop Shop in 1986 in downtown New York, selling commercial items adorned with his signature, cartoonish imagery. Haring combined graffiti, hip-hop, and urban aesthetics, frequently depicting animals, figures, commercial icons, sexual imagery, and childlike motifs in pieces that were both playful and concerned with social issues. His work became increasingly confrontational following his 1987 diagnosis of AIDS. Haring resolved to work harder than ever in his remaining years, creating pieces with a fervent speed and devoting his art to social action in addition to his personal expression. In 1989, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, whose goal is to promote art programs and public spaces for children, and to raise awareness about AIDS Related Categories Keith Haring Dolphins. 'Pot au Feu', Rare Hand Signed Limited Edition
Located in Cotignac, FR
A fine limited edition signed lithograph, 'Pot au Feu' by British artist Glynn Boyd Harte. The work is signed in pencil by the artist bottom right and numbered 12/125 (number 12 of 125) in pencil bottom left. Presented in a metal and wood frame under glass. A fantastic colourful and amusing view of a group of ingredients for a 'pot au feu' (a traditional French stew) as well as a box of candied (glacé) fruits and a map of Paris and its suburbs all presented on a bright pink checked table cloth. Boyd Harte always brought an enormous amount of humour to his paintings and compositions, there are wonderful details and 'jokes' hidden in the details. A really wonderful work ideal for a kitchen or anywhere else it can be seen and admired in detail. Glynn Boyd Harte 1948-2003 was an artist, illustrator, author, composer & pianist educated at St.Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art. "Glynn Boyd Harte was one of the most brilliant and influential illustrators and painters to emerge in the post pop world of London in the early 1970s" (The Guardian, London) Harte was born in Rochdale, his father Herbert worked as a commercial artist and later teaching. Harte always maintained that print was in his blood, his grandfather being a printer by trade and his earliest memory being a garden path made from lithograph stones. He was educated at Rochdale Grammar School, before progressing to the Rochdale School of Art. He later transferred to St Martin's School of Art, where tutor Fritz Wegner encouraged him to move from black and white to colour. He would later join the Royal College of Art in 1970 where his tutors were Brian Robb, Edward Bawden, Paul Hogarth...

Vintage Lithographs and Other Prints for Sale on 1stDibs

Buying art and design is one thing. Collecting it is quite another. Whether you’re looking to add a focal point to your living room or you’re introducing a new acquisition to an already thriving collection of art, the range of vintage lithographs and other fine art prints on 1stDibs is waiting for you.

The lithographic process begins by drawing on or painting on a stone surface with an oil-based substance, such as a greasy crayon or tusche (an oily wash). The stone is then covered with water, which is repelled by the oily areas. Oil-based ink is then applied to the wet stone, adhering only to the oily image. The stone is then covered with a sheet of paper and run through a press.

Lithographs tend to be more painterly than other printing techniques such as woodcut printmaking and drypoint, and many postwar and contemporary painters have collaborated with lithographic workshops to push their practices in new directions. The collection of vintage lithographs on 1stDibs includes works by Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Peter Max, Jasper Johns and other artists.

Groundbreaking print studios like Gemini began to crop up in the mid-20th century. These included Tamarind, first founded as a lithography shop in Los Angeles; ULAE on New York’s Long Island; and Crown Point Press in San Francisco. The timing was due to the fact that many artists had developed a taste for printmaking during the Great Depression via the Works Progress Administration (WPA), which opened print shops for unemployed artists to help create useful and uplifting messages that could be widely disseminated.
