"Shona Chief" is an original serpentine sculpture signed by the artist Chemedu Jemali. This sculptor works in the Shona tradition of Zimbabwe. The sculpture depicts an abstracted head of a man and weighs 95 lbs. The signature is on the back.

Chemedu Jemali was born on March 3, 1971 in Harare where he did his primary education. He and his family then moved to the Shamva township where he completed high school. His family is originally from Malawi and their totem is of the Miranzi (mouse).
He started sculpting in 1990. He was taught to sculpt by his brother Chituwa Jemali. He has three brothers and one sister. In the early 1990's, Chemedu took an interest in carving, inspired by the success of his older brother, Chituwa, and became an established carver. Initially, he worked as an apprentice to Chituwa who introduced him to carving the local hard stone such as verdite, springstone, cobalt and lemon opal. His brother, Salim, is also a full time sculptor.
Chemedu produces abstract creations of various themes - from spirit birds to stylized busts. He has become a well known artist in the Shona Art...

Rachel Hubbard Kline's work explores the wistfulness of personal connections to historical domestic objects and material culture. Kline seeks symbiosis in the relationship of surfaces to forms and addresses the hierarchy of importance between the form itself and the image or decoration. Objects both functional and decorative, factor into the banality and routineness of daily life. As the current political and social climate continues to shift, She seeks to compare past and present means of the production of goods and labor. Surface design inspired by vintage textile prints from family quilts and other historical motifs appear in Kline's work. The vessel acts as a stand in for the body and a metaphor for preservation. Kline's series of jars and jugs are intended to preserve memories of family members and places by using specific colors, patterns and objects she remembers from childhood to the present.
Rachel Hubbard Kline is an art educator and artist in her hometown Kansas City, MO.
With a background in fashion and art history, she explores relationships of fine art and craft in the disciplines of drawing, painting, ceramics, and fiber. Hubbard draws on her Midwestern roots and ties to rural farm life to reflect on past ways of life based on collections and artifacts.
Hubbard Kline has been the recipient of educator residencies at the Kansas City Art Institute, a participant in the Connecting Collections teacher institute in New York, and Educator Conferences and AP Teacher Training at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Park University in 2010, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Connecticut in 2007, and attended Parsons School of Design. She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

A tall, modified columnar vase with incised catfish by Canadian-American ceramist Sasha Makovkin (1928-2003). Made of a white clay body. Glaze in varied shades of gray, blue and green. Northern California potter Sasha Makovkin, originally from Vancouver, B.C. and of Russian descent, moved to California in 1954 to work at Heath Ceramics in Sausalito in order to get industrial experience. During the 1050s, Makovkin exhibited at the Association of San Francisco Potters and at the San Francisco Art Festivals.
Five years later after arriving in California, Makovkin took some samples of his ceramics to Gumps, a high-end department store in San Francisco. Impressed with his work, Gumps featured Makovkin’s work in the mail floor exhibits for the next three years. Maryam Pezeshki was born in Tehran on August 18, 1977. SHe began to paint at the age of three. Her first painting was a Pinocchio. Participate in national and international painting competitions and festivals among Asian and Iranian children, winning first prize each time. At the age of ten she participated in a television program entitled "Little Great Artists". At the age of fourteen she won the prize for the best drawing and sculpture among Iranian teenagers, and she enrolled in the artistic high school, continuing to do her first personal exhibitions of sculpture, painting and drawing. From the age of seventeen to nineteen she won the national prize for best sculpture at the youth festival for three consecutive years. At seventeen he enrolled at the University of Art in the graphics sector and at twenty-one he graduated with full marks. In the same year she began studying for the master of graphics and managed to be among the seven students admitted.
