Van Bredael Signed Landscape Paint Oil on canvas Old master 17th Century Flemish
Located in Riva del Garda, IT
Alexander van Bredael (Antwerp 1663 - 1720) - Signed lower left: A.V. BREDAEL F (ecit), Italian coastal landscape with market scene Oil painting on canvas (70 x 88 cm., framed 95 x 113 cm.) Provenance: Mercier & Cie, Lille, France, 05.28.2000, lot 223 Dorotheum, Vienna, 4.10.2000, lot 496 (estimate 18,000-22,000) The work, particularly rich in detail, depicts a fantasy coastal landscape, as the scene of a teeming morning market that animates the main square, with a multitude of characters, including fruit, vegetable and livestock merchants, fishermen in the distance and buyers. The signed painting is a typical work of the well-known painter Alexander van Bredael (1663–1720), a native of Antwerp, specializing in highly imaginative market scenes and village festivals, slides of everyday city life. His works are often set in Mediterranean landscapes, where the architectural models of Italian inspiration stand out, such as the classic village perched overlooking the shore, and the particular fountain that stands out in the center of the square, decorated with masks, female figures and a statue of a satyr on top. Even the style with which the characters are outlined and the tasty genre scenes perfectly reproduce the prototypes of the master, characterized by a use of bright colors, and by an extremely refined attention to detail, which combines his ability as a landscape architect to that of naturamortista. Finally, the particular beauty and wealth of detail with which the depictions of animals are rendered, the beautiful and rustic still lifes exhibited by the vegetable and fruit seller, the silhouettes of the characters, minutely described and enjoyable in every detail, deserve mention. Works by the author that appeared on the market, with stylistic and compositional characteristics similar to our painting: - Alexander van Bredael, Great pastoral feast among ancient ruins, Hampel (Munich) 06.26.2009, nr. 248 - Alexander van Bredael, Figures in a stream outside the city, Lempertz (Keulen) 22-11-2008, nr. 1292 - Alexander van Bredael, Landscape of the South...

Landscape with Two Bathers
By Guillaume Dulac
Located in London, GB
'Landscape with Two Bathers', oil on panel, by Guillaume Dulac (circa 1920s). Dulac's oils and drawings manifest an elegant classicism with an immediately identifiable style. It is these qualities which are so attractive both aesthetically and in the context as an investment in fine art. Our gallery holds virtually the entire remaining collection of Guillaume Dulac's sketches and memorabilia with impeccable provenance. In this acquisition of a Dulac oil painting, one finds a depiction of two women, one of them in the nude, seated on the edge of a bathing pool. The other is peacefully seated on a comfortable boulder stone...

REFLECTIONS 1 - Contemporary Atmospheric Landscape, Modern Seascape Painting
By Grzegorz Wójcik
Located in Salzburg, AT
A few words of the artist about his art: When i painting landscapes, I usually choose simple geometric arrangements, contrasts of verticals and levels. I juxtapose the smooth surface of the sky with the rough texture of earth or grass. I paint symmetrical reflections in water and rhythmic repetitions of trees. Even an ordinary, seemingly uninteresting fragment of the suburban landscape hides a beauty that I want to see and then transfer to the canvas. I am inspired by nature because it contains a hidden secret of existence. For me, painting it is a reflection on life and passing away. It is an attempt to capture the imperceptible essence, to paint what cannot be seen. I think that my paintings can be a respite, an antidote for a man tired of technology, constant rush, hustle and bustle of the city. Grzegorz Wójcik...

Joy VII - Contemporary Figurative Oil Painting, Beach View, Realism
By Julita Malinowska
Located in Salzburg, AT
Artodyssey "Julita Malinowska's paintings belong to those, which once seen - are never forgotten. The open spaces, sometimes cool and bright, at other times heavily saturated with contrasting light, create a landscape in which, like a counterpoint, we come across a figure – sometimes one, perhaps two or more. The synthetic construction of form, clean contours, and strong divisions are elements which at first sight are the defining characteristics of the artist's style. It is impossible to pass one by and remain indifferent to the subdued harmony flooding these spaces which not totally defined. The drawings, however, are somewhat different. Although they contain the same motifs, at times even the same compositions – the value strategems employed by Julita create a sense of foreboding in a world already balancing on the edge. The painterly and graphic form constructed by the artist is itself thought- provoking . The heightened tones, the light which at times goes off the scale and the almost classic contours lead us to look at Malinowska's work through the prism of classicism and the great art theories of the 17th century. Such references are quite rare in the painting of today and beyond – in art. The search for a language allowing the artist to deal with universal issues and fundamental questions in order to understand the sense of not only art, but also life, has not been too popular a phenomenom in art over the last century. The artist has, however, for the last few years quite consciously defined the sphere of her search. It could first be seen in the diploma cycle of paintings, the summary of her years of study. “The role of the painting defined then and the concious selection of formal sources became the starting point for further artistic exploration, which I have been following carefully ever since.” Julita Malinowska Born in Otwock in 1979. Studied in the Art Department of the University of Maria Curie-Sklodowska in Lublin from 1999-2000, and then from 2000-2005 in the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Received a Sokrates/Erasmus scholarship in 2003 for Wolverhampton University in the UK. Graduated (MA degree) from the Painting Department in 2005 with distinction. From 2008 till 2011 was making Doctoral studies (PhD degree) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In December 2012 defended PhD degree. In 2005 won Second Prize at The Samsung Art...

Blair Hughes-Stanton 'Reclining Nude' abstract oil painting British Surrealism
By Blair Hughes-Stanton
Located in London, GB
To see our other Modern British Art, scroll down to "More from this Seller" and below it click on "See all from this Seller" - or send us a message if you cannot find the artist you want. Blair Hughes-Stanton (1902-1981) Reclining Nude, c. 1936 Tempera on canvas 76.5 x 102 cm Signed lower right 'Blair H S'. Provenance: The estate of the artist. A magnificent abstract nude rendered in a dynamic colour palette. This is probably Hughes-Stanton's most important work, and belongs to the nation's great, if brief, period of British Surrealism. The three major elements are distinct: the pastel tones of the window view and wall, the sensual curvatures of the pale nude, and the bold foreground featuring a fantastically accomplished still life of a fruit bowl (which could be a painting in and of itself) and the impressively phallic chair back. This is a brilliant example of erotic modernist abstraction. Blair Hughes-Stanton, son of the artist Sir Herbert Hughes-Stanton, was a noted British artist of the interwar period. At the age of 13 he joined the Royal Navy training ship HMS Coway, but at 19 - advised by his father - he abandoned the sea for his paintbox. He studied art at Byam Shaw School (1919-1922) where he was influenced by Leon Underwood (who was a major influence throughout his studying), Royal Academy Schools (1922-23), and Leon Underwood's School (1923-25). He was celebrated mostly for his skills as an engraver, and was a founding member of the English Wood Engraving Society when it was established in 1925. His first wife was the printmaker Gertrude Hermes...
