By Gerald Benney
Located in Melbourne, AU
Superb set of 'Fisheaters', i.e. Six knives and six forks designed by Gerald Benney, in original box. Mason's Ashworth's Ironstone Large Dinner Plate in Flying Bird Pattern, Ca 1900
By Ashworth Ironstone
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a good Mason’s ironstone large dinner plate produced at the time when Mason's was owned and controlled by George L Ashworth and Brothers after the bankruptcy of C J Mason in 1848. This large plate is decorated in a the striking chinoiserie pattern called "Flying Bird" pattern, as illustrated on Page 121 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns" published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The pattern would have been transfer printed then boldly hand enameled with good detail. The plate also has a mid-brown / ochre hand painted outer rim simulating the Chinese plates of the time and earlier periods. The base carries a blue transfer printed mark Ashworth Brothers...

John Ridgway Ironstone Bowl Hand-Painted pattern, William 1Vth Circa 1835
By John Ridgways
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a highly decorative, ironstone, twin handled circular footed Bowl by John Ridgway, dating to the English William 1Vth period, circa 1835 . The bowl has been carefully hand-painted in bold colorful enamels with a chinoiserie pattern of three oriental people travelling on a boat, pattern number 5057. It is also richly hand gilded. John Ridgway operated at his father’s celebrated Cauldon Place works, Shelton, Hanley, England, between 1830-1856, producing some fine porcelain and stone China of excellent quality. His stone China earthenwares and ironstone wares are discussed on page 305 of Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wares written by Geoffrey Godden for the Antique Collectors Club. This piece is fully marked to the base with an Imperial Stone China...

Georgian Coalport Porcelain Coffee Can Hand Gilded Pattern, English circa 1807
By Coalport Porcelain
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a good quality coffee can that we attribute to the Coalport Porcelain works, Shropshire, England, made during the John Rose period of the George 111rd years, circa 1805-1810. The coffee can is nominally parallel, tapering slightly to the base, with a simple loop handle with one lower kink and pointed attachments. It has a shallow foot recess with obtuse corner and is unmarked to the base. The pattern is beautifully hand painted in an all gold gilt floral upper border pattern with further gilding on the body above the base rim, around the upper rim and to the outer handle. We date this piece to the late George third...

Lead Crystal cut Glass Mallet Decanter Three Neck Rings lozenge stopper, Ca 1790
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very good, beautifully proportioned, crystal cut lead glass Spirit Decanter with a mallet shape and three flat cut neck rings, with its original lozenge stopper, circa 1790. This decanter is really well proportioned and elegant, with the mallet taper shape, which first appeared in the George 111rd period from circa 1765. It has three spaced flat cut neck rings, which give a very good grip when pouring. The body has vertical fluting around the shoulder and a herringbone fringe of finer cuts around the base. This decanter has its original lozenge cut stopper and is a very good fit to the decanter. The decanter is made from Lead glass with a soft grey color. This is a spirit or small wine decanter size having a Volume of about 500ml. Overall, a late 18th century, very elegant, Georgian lead...

Tulips were also used within acrostic sets. These are some of the ingredients of the typical Jacobite melodrama engraved upon period glassware! All the romantic intrigue of deposed royalty, a dalliance with a swooning local girl, desperate cross-country flight under the muzzles of musket-wielding troopers and their bloodthirsty commanders a tragic denouement on a desolate battlefield (and a confusing, irrelevant and untrue epilogue about someone hiding up a tree for good measure) - wow ! The Intire Glass Shop advertised Flower'd glasses on their trade card as early as 1742. With floral designs featuring prominently in decorators books...
