Black Callimaco by Ettore Sottsass, Early Limited Edition

About the Item

Limited Edition Callimaco floor lamp by Ettore Sottsass in black. Callimaco was designed by Ettore Sottsass for Artemide in 1982 and became a true icon of 1980s. The lamp lacks all unnecessary parts and strips down to pure functionality. This very first version was produced in a small numbered series for a Paris gallery and even lacks the integrated dimmer on the stem. We have 2 of these lights in stock. Marked with Artemide label. Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) was an Italian architect and designer known for his influential contributions to the Memphis Group. He believed that design should reflect human emotions and individual expression, breaking away from traditional constraints. Sottsass' work encompassed various mediums, including furniture, ceramics, and architecture. His bold use of color, geometric patterns, and unconventional forms challenged conventional design norms. Sottsass' designs, such as the iconic "Carlton" bookcase, remain celebrated for their playful and avant-garde aesthetic. His creative vision continues to inspire designers and shape the field of contemporary design.
