On ‘The Outlook’ letterhead. Typed and personally signed and amended by President Theodore Roosevelt.
Dated June 20th 1911.
What makes this letter so important is the author, the office and the content.
It refers to the beliefs and opinions of the then President and First Lady (Edith) towards the women’s sufferage and empowerment movement that was the ‘hot topic’ of the time.
It is addressed to Eliza Calvert Hall/Obenchain who was a well known author at the end of the 19th Century and Early 20th Century. In 1905, Teddy referred to her book “Aunt Jane of Kentucky’ in a speech and recommended that every man in America should read it to understand ‘the plight of their womenfolk’. He regularly corresponded with her and we have a number of those letters in our collection. It appears that both he and Edith became big fans of Mrs Hall/Obenchain who was also heavily involved in the Suffragist movement.
The letters also provide a fascinating and historic record of Roosevelt’s personal beliefs and feelings on female empowerment.

Two fine English Georgian, probably Staffordshire, child’s pearlware plates decorated with religious scenes and verse dating from the early 19th century. The finely potted plates are of octagonal shape both with relief molded fruit and floral designs to the rim, one hand painted and other simply glazed rim but with a pink lustre edge. Due to the edge patterning being the same we believe the plates to have originated from the same pottery. Both plates have printed religious scenes to the center with printed prayers, possibly as teaching aids for children. One has a scene of Christ rising from the dead with a prayer reading ‘Behold him rising from the grave. Behold him raised on high. An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver snuffer/pen tray made by William Bateman I; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George III sterling silver snuffer tray has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners.
The surface of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished.
The raised rounded border is embellished with an impressive vertebrate band of stylized floral, bud and foliate ornamentation, all on a matte background.
The rim of the tray is encompassed with an exceptional applied gadroon decorated border accented with a floral motif to either side and a scrolling leaf decorated design to each corner.
The underside of this impressive Georgian snuffer tray bears the silversmith's centre punch mark in addition to the full hallmarks pertaining to the renowned London silversmith William Bateman I.

There are slight gaps in the original paint on the sphere. The case no longer closes.
The sphere measures 2.6 in (6.8 cm) in diameter whereas the case measures 2.9 in (7.4 cm) in diameter.

On the terrestrial globe much of central and southern Africa is empty. North America bears only the name of some British colonies. It shows California as a peninsula and the northwest coast of America as "unknown parts" (Alaska is not described and is only partially delineated; it would become part of the United States in 1867). The route of Admiral Anson is traced (1740) and the trade winds are indicated by arrows. Australia, still named New Holland (the new name would be introduced in 1829), is part of the west coast.
