Second Nicolas Edition. 2 volumes, royal 8vo. Presented in modern half red Moroccan leather and cloth bindings with raised bands, gilt titles, tooling, and stamps to the spine. Illustrated throughout. Presented is a 1860 printing of Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton’s famous treatise on fishing, The Complete Angler, or the Contemplative Man’s Recreation. Published by Nattali and Bond in London, this beautifully bound two volume set was the second edition to be edited by Sir Harris Nicolas. The volumes are beautifully bound in modern half red Moroccan leather boards with gilt titles and illustrated throughout with engravings from 27 of the most prominent artists of the time. The Complete Angler was first published in 1653 by Richard Marriot of St Dunstan-in-the-West out of London, UK. Izaak Walton continued to add to the original book for a quarter of a century. A significantly enlarged edition appeared in 1655, and the last edition supervised by Walton, published in 1676, included additional fly-fishing material written by his friend Charles Cotton. This is a very good and complete handmade, hardwood chess set game of 32 pieces in a handmade pine box with a sliding lid, which we date to the turn of the 19th Century, Circa 1900. The chess set is complete with 32 handmade and turned hardwood pieces, ( probably made of boxwood) all in the Regency shape or French Regence style. This Regence style are quite distinctive with the taller pieces and distinctive knights when compared to other designs and have a good "feel" when playing with. The box is handmade of pine with a sliding lid of good colour. Kings are 96mm high (about 3~7/8 inches) Knights are 90mm high Pawns are 48 mm high (about 1~11/16 inches) Note: Two of the white pawns are smaller replacements but of the same style. Healy" to the role of "Marshal of the United States in and for the Southern District of Alabama." The appointment is countersigned by "Hamilton Fish" as Secretary of State. The document is partially printed in formal script, and completed by hand in black ink. The document reads in full: “Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States of America. To all who shall see these presents greeting: Know ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the Integrity, Ability, and Diligence of Robert W.
