About the Item

LC4 Louis Vuitton Icônes Collection 2014 - limited edition, Nr. 0355 of only 1.000 pieces produced worldwide. To celebrate the 110th anniversary of the birth of French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand, Cassina and Louis Vuitton re-launched the 'LC4' chaise longue in 2014. LC4 has originally been designed by Perriand in collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in 1928. The 'LC4 CP' tribute edition of 2014 has been aesthetically reimagined, with a mattress in natural leather and deep-brown footrest in Louis Vuitton’s finest saddle-leather. It was part of the 2014 Icon Collection by Louis Vuitton, presented at Design Miami/Art Basel Miami Beach 2013. The LC4 Louis Vuitton is marked on the base: "HOMMAGE DE CASSINA A CHARLOTTE PERRIAND A L’OCCASION DE LA COLLECTION ICONES 2014 DE LOUIS VUITTON 03551000 - 2014." Chaise longue with adjustable polished chrome-plated steel frame. Base in specific basalt colour for the LV edition. The innovative self-supporting mattress, covered in exclusive Louis Vuitton leather, is attached to the chrome frame by springs and has seamless edges with valuable and contrasting stitching. Here the original description of the preparation of the leather by Cassina / Louis Vuitton: "The saddle leather originates from the Louis Vuitton “La Comète” tannery in Estambourg, Belgium. Tannerie La Comète only uses Vegetable tinting processes and has been doing so for 4 generations. There is no metal or chrome treatment in the process. The hides they use, are mostly Calf hides – of best quality but of smaller Breeds. Treatment of the calf hides includes pressing within felt surfaces, followed by the softening process with the use of vegetal and animal fat (such as for LV leather bags). The hides are then dried and stretched. The preparation process for each hide takes one week. ... The natural saddle leather is free of surface protection and extremely soft to the touch. The lack of superficial protection makes it sensitive, light will strengthen the leather. The final aspect of the cuoietto leather will be natural tobacco colour (because of a natural oxidation process)." The mattress of this LC4 has been mostly protected from light since 2014. It has a very slight patina and a lighter area under the headrest. This lighter area will probably disappear when exposed to light without the headrest. There are a few small and discrete stains, one bigger at the top (see last photograph).
