Genuin 1930s Arne Jacobsen “Paris Chair”
Located in Vejle Øst, DK
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was one of the most visionary and progressive Danish architects of his time. He was admitted to the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts from 1924 to 1927. In 1929, two years after graduating from the School of Architecture, the only 27-year-old Arne Jacobsen won first prize for his ultra-modern concept "The House of the Future" at an exhibition held by the Academic Association of Architects. The house was built in full size for the exhibition, and was the first example of actual modernist architecture in Denmark. The iconic Paris Armchair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1929 for a competition issued by the Kurvemagerforeningen. When he presented the famous "House of the Future" later that year, the chair was shown as part of the interior design. Until World War II, the Paris lounge chair...

Rare pair of French Art Deco lounge chairs by Michel Dufet, France, 1930s Pair of low profile art deco lounge chairs designed by Michel Dufet in France, 1930s. Michel Dufet French (1888-1985) Literature: Florence Camard, Michel Dufet, Architecte décorateur, Paris, 1988 The last imagine is of a black and white shot taken: Paris c. 1925. This is a photo from the “Exposition Internationale De 1937, Maurice Dufrene, Ensembles Mobiliers, Vol 1”, a rare portfolio of plates documenting European Arts Decoratifs interiors in 1937. The original photograph is believed to either be in a private collection or destroyed in WW II. Dufet was an architect, interior designer and art critic. As a proponent of the functional modern style he introduced a discrete use of cubism into his interiors. He directed the largest interior design firm in South America from 1922 to 1927 in Rio de Janeiro. He returned to France in 1928 to take over the direction, with Le´andre Vaillant, of the “Atelier d’Art du Bu^cheron“. Antique and Vintage Lounge Chairs for Sale: Wassily Chairs, Eames Chairs and Other Celebrated Seats

While this specific seating is known to all for its comfort and familiar form, the history of how your favorite antique or vintage lounge chair came to be is slightly more ambiguous.

Although there are rare armchairs dating back as far as the 17th century, some believe that the origins of the first official “lounge chair” are tied to Hungarian modernist designer-architect Marcel Breuer. Sure, Breuer wasn’t exactly reinventing the wheel when he introduced the Wassily lounge chair in 1925, but his seat was indeed revolutionary for its integration of bent tubular steel.

Officially, a lounge chair is simply defined as a “comfortable armchair,” which allows for the shape and material of the furnishings to be extremely diverse. Whether or not chaise longues make the cut for this category is a matter of frequent debate.

The Eames lounge chair, on the other hand, has come to define somewhat of a universal perception of what a lounge chair can be. Introduced in 1956, the Eames lounger (and its partner in cozy, the ottoman) quickly became staples in television shows, prestigious office buildings and sumptuous living rooms. Venerable American mid-century modern designers Charles and Ray Eames intended for it to be the peak of luxury, which they knew meant taking furniture to the next level of style and comfort. Their chair inspired many modern interpretations of the lounge — as well as numerous copies.

On 1stDibs, find a broad range of unique lounge chairs that includes everything from antique Victorian-era seating to vintage mid-century modern lounge chairs by craftspersons such as Hans Wegner to contemporary choices from today’s innovative designers.
