About the Item

This compact Mid-Century Modern Steel Frame credenza cabinet 'model 4036' was designed by American designer George Nelson circa 1955 and produced by Herman Miller. The cabinet features a powder white, welded, steel frame, a hard white plastic top that was advertised as both "alcohol and cigarette proof", a red lacquered wooden drawer with a natural finish on the interior, and two black masonite sliding doors for additional hidden storage. This color combination was most likely a custom order. The cabinet hardware is chrome-plated. This cabinet is from Nelson's "Steel Frame" collection. The collection was designed to be "superbly well-suited for today's small, multi-purpose rooms as well as durable, decorative, and functional, which was a must for all Herman Miller furniture. The original manufacturer's mark remains intact inside of the top drawer. Images are included of 2 additional Steel Frame dressers available. Sold separately.
