Couture Late1920s ChanelRousseletStyle PearlescentPendants SilverChain Necklace
Located in Chicago, IL
Featuring 12 large patinated pearlescent charms distinctly handcrafted by Parisian Louis Rousselet--the master glass-and-metal-ornament parurier for French couture fashion houses since 1920--this heavy silver chain necklace is made in the unique chunky style of Coco Chanel that she introduced in the 1920s. Capping Rousselet's signature Art-Deco-period handmade beads, his intricate multi-texture metal caps for these balls resemble organic shapes like the stems of acorns and fruit. In a bib arrangement, the duotone reflective spheres--in black glass, blue-gray enameled galalith, and silver metal--draw attention to the bust of the wearer. Aside from chain jewelry commissioned by Chanel, Rousselet-style jewelry was usually constructed with thin wires or braided string to enable his beads to attract the most attention. Notably, this necklace fastens with an enlarged spring-ring clasp that became associated with increasingly heavy Chanel costume jewelry. Like 1920s Chanel jewelry by Rousselet, the necklace is both unmarked for French origin and unsigned. In subsequent decades, variations of chunky-charm chain necklaces were reproduced by Chanel with her other paruriers using different materials in which they specialized, such as a similar Chanel-signed piece in the 1960s by bronze-maker Maison Denez...

Art Deco 1920 Mughal Tutti Frutti Necklace Silver 303.69 Cts Gemstone And Pearls
Located in Miami, FL
Art Deco Mughal style jeweled necklace. Beautiful and colorful piece, most probably created in England during the Art Deco period, back in the 1920. This very unusual and striking necklace was assembled in the Mughal Tutti Frutti style with silver wires. The lock of this necklace is in 18 kt yellow gold and is very ingenious, since it is concealed within the carving of the last green tourmaline gem. The stone is drilled and fitted with a drawer-type cylinder with a push lock. It is embellished with 13 Natural Keshi pearls of diverse sizes and tonalities and mounted in full with colored translucent natural gemstones. All of them are specifically described as follow; 1 Double Pear Cabochon drop cut (37.8 x 28.2 x 17.1) of a Reddish Rubellite, 154.56 carats 1 Cushion Cabochon cut (30.1 x 14.2 x 11.3 mm) of a Green Tourmaline, 39.17 carats. 10 Semi Oval Cabochons cut (average 4 x 5 x 3 mm) of Ceylon and Pailin Blue Sapphires, 4.65 carats. 4 Oval Cabochons cut (average 10 x 15 x 12 mm) of Pink Tourmaline, 61.04 carats. 4 Tumbler free-form Cabochons cut (average 18 x 13 x 15 mm) of Green Fluorite, 39.87 carats. 22 Rondelle faceted round cuts (3 mm) carved from Black Onyx, 4.40 carats. This magnificent piece have a total weight of 69.5 Grams and a length of 15 Inches (38 Cm). The main element has a drop of 58 mm (1.28 Inches). History: The first Tutti Frutti piece was designed in 1901 by Pierre Cartier. It was a necklace commissioned by queen Alexandra to be worn with three Indian gowns she received as a gift. The designs are considered the perfect mix of east and west because they are made up of brightly colored gemstones (like sapphires, rubies and emeralds) carved using Indian techniques and set in French platinum and diamond mountings. The style became extremely popular during the 1920's, but it wasn't christened the 'Tutti Frutti' until1970. Mughal jewelry. Five centuries ago, India was under the rule and influence of the Mughal dynasty. The Mughal royalty were connoisseurs of architecture, arts, food, clothing and of course, jewelry. During the Mughal rule, jewelry-making was given utmost importance. This art gave birth to unique jewelry pieces studded with chunky gemstones and enameled with motif designs. Royal family members and people of high rank proudly displayed such jewelry all over their bodies, from jeweled turbans and head-jewelry to thick-set toe rings. The Mughal emperors wore silk turbans sequined with decorative, drooping feather-like ornaments. These turban ornaments...

We are fortunate to know much of the world’s long and dazzling history of necklaces, as this type of jewelry was so treasured that it was frequently buried with its owners.

Lapis lazuli beads adorned necklaces unearthed from the royal graves at the ancient Iraqi civilization of Sumer, while the excavation of King Tut’s burial chamber revealed a sense of style that led to a frenzy of Art Deco designs, with artisans of the 1920s seeking to emulate the elegant work crafted by Ancient Egypt’s goldsmiths and jewelry makers.

In ancient times, pendant necklaces worn by royalty and nobles conferred wealth and prestige. Today, wearing jewelry is about personal expression: Luxury diamond necklaces exude confidence and can symbolize the celebratory nature of a deep romantic relationship, while paper-clip chain-link necklaces designed by the likes of goldsmith Faye Kim are firmly planted in the past as well as the present. Kim works exclusively with eco-friendly gold, and these fashionable, fun accessories owe to the design of 19th-century watch fobs.

For some, necklaces are thought of as being a solely feminine piece, but this widely loved accessory has been gender-neutral for eons. In fact, just as women rarely took to wearing a single necklace during the Renaissance, men of the era layered chains and valuable pendants atop their bejeweled clothing. In modern times, the free-spirited hippie and counterculture movements of the 1960s saw costume-jewelry designers celebrating self-expression through colorful multistrand necklaces and no shortage of beads, which were worn by anyone and everyone.

Even after all of these years, the necklace remains an irrefutable staple of any complete outfit. Although new trends in jewelry are constantly emerging, the glamour and beauty of the past continue to inform modern styles and designs. In a way, the cyclical history of the necklace differs little from its familiar looped form: The celebrated French jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels found much inspiration in King Tut, and, now, their Alhambra collection is a go-to for modern royals. Vintage necklaces designed by David Webb — whose work landed him on the cover of Vogue in 1950, two years after opening his Manhattan shop — were likely inspired by the ornamental styles of ancient Greece, Mesopotamia and Egypt
