Victorian Sterling Silver 'Amity Eternity Infinity' Locket
Located in Brisbane, QLD
A wonderfully large sterling silver Victorian locket with an elaborate 'Amity, Eternity, Infinity' monogram to the centre front. The oval highly polished locket hangs from a tapering but large bale which allows either a large chain or bolt ring clasp to slide through with ease. To the front of the piece is an elaborate 'AEI' monogram which has been applied over the top of the locket, however is original to the piece. This monogram is often seen in Victorian jewellery and stands for 'Amity, Eternity & Infinity'. The firmly closing locket features two windows inside with glass to place a photograph or lock of hair behind. The piece dates to circa 1890 and due to the lack of hallmarks is unlikely to be English, but perhaps American in origin. A gorgeous example of Victorian era silver jewellery which is still so wearable today.

The front depicting the Sacred Heart pierced by a sword and topped with a flaming torch, flanked by the motto Spec Unica. The back with the Sacred Heart surrounded by the Crown of Thorns, bleeding, topped with a flaming torch, with the following letters: C.U., E.T., A.U., ICJ. The decorative elements at the arms are classical French Empire period, circa 1840.
The moving subject of this beautiful crucifix relates to a passage in the Gospels which describes Christ's crown of thorns being transferred from his head to his heart, emphasizing that He felt his wounds in the depth of his heart. I truly love this piece it is so rich in history and Victorian design, there are two medals made from sterling silver, each with a beautifully engraved script to them.
One side reads United East Lothian Agricultural Society, 1897, won by Mr Ure, Abbey Mains.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL ANTIQUE VICTORIAN HEART SHAPE LOCKET, MATCH HOLDER STRIKER OR PERFUME VINAIGRETTE BY THE ESTEEMED BRITISH SILVERSMITH WILLIAM HAIR HASELER. HASELER WAS FAMED FOR PARTNERING WITH LIBERTY & CO. OF LONDON AND PRODUCING THE WORKS DESIGNED BY ARCHIBALD KNOX.
THE SILVER LOCKET PENDANT IS IN THE FORM OF A HEART. IT HAS BEAUTIFUL ACANTHUS LEAF SCROLL MOTIF ENGRAVING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE LOCKET. ON ONE SIDE ARE THREE VICTORIAN INITIALS AT THE BOTTOM. THE LOCKET HAS A MATCH STRIKER ON ONE SIDE. THE HEART MOTIF IS BEAUTIFULLY RENDERED IN THIS ANTIQUE JEWEL. THE LOCKET IS ALSO A WONDERFUL PIECE OF TOBACCIANA WITH ITS MATCH HOLDER AND STRIKER DESIGN.
THE HEART LOCKET DATES TO CIRCA 1870-1900.
William Hair Haseler was born to John and Sarah Evett (Hair) Haseler in 1821/1822 in Birmingham, England. In 1870, Haseler founded the company, W. H. Haseler & Co., specializing in gold and silver work, and jewelry.
Five years later, Arthur Lasenby Liberty (1843-1917) started a small shop on the corner of Regent Street in London. Specializing in exotic goods from Japan and the Far East, his business thrived and he became a leading merchant to the upper classes, including famous members of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. The store soon became the most fashionable place to shop in London, featuring luxurious wares including fabrics, clothing, furniture, clocks, jewelry, wallpapers and decorative objects of all kinds. His efforts to promote the Art Nouveau style, with its depiction of leaves and flowers in flowing ornamental lines, were so influential that the term “Stile Liberty” became the accepted term for the style in Italy.
