Kenneth Jay Lane--whose monogram KJL is signed on the white-rose-decorated gold-tone clasp of this double-strand black-resin beaded necklace--is only one of four bylined jewelry designers collected by The Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection At The Metropolitan Museum of Art from the two-decade period between 1970-1989, which was dominated by such bold big shapes in mostly black, white and gold.
A must for any collector of the world-renowned American-founded beauty-brand Avon, its rare limited-edition retailed necklace by Lane titled "Midnight Rose" is among the most distinctive that it produced among its lines of primarily perfume, cosmetics, and personal-care products whose origin dates back to 1886 in New York. Notably, the life-sized shiny cast-acrylic rose has the look of a far more expensive carved stone, such as one cut and polished from light-filled saturated-white chalcedony, which is a hard semi-precious stone favored by Lane.
Like Lane's own line when it was originally signed KJL, the decorated clasp is uniquely designed. It locks underneath with a semi-circular hinge, which enables the stylized three-dimensional smooth rose to be perfectly positioned on the right side of the upper chest with the bud facing upwards above its three-leaf sepal in contrasting gilt textured metal. This position adds sparkle from above to the three pave rhinestones in a gold-tone setting at center of the rose, as if its dew-covered bud was beginning to open in strong moonlight. To balance the bold rose shape, the black strands cross each other below at a single point, which adds another eye-catching element to the concealed-string-tied necklace.
In mint condition with no sign of wear, the necklace was acquired in its original lavender Avon retail box. In contrast, the paper shows wear and tear from handling, while still featuring the jewelry designer's full-name script signature, title, and text details like how to care for this synthetic jewelry. This couture 1980s fuchsia-pink evening bag by Christian Lacroix in ribbed silk moire features a double-bow stitched handle and his script-monogram "CL" embroidered on the exterior of the snap-fastening flap. The interior is printed in gold with "Christian Lacroix Paris".
Signs of wear that are not visible until inspection of the wavy reflections and shadows of the textural shiny fabric include: a lighter area below the closed flap that could be part of the moire-watermark pattern; interior loose threads at top corners; and thread-bare spots underneath at two of the four corners. The handle, back side and interior of the bag are in excellent condition.
As we found it difficult to capture the bag's bluish-magenta color, our photos include some taken with studio lights and others in sunlight.
We have listed this evening bag among bracelets, boxes and cases because we assume that the buyer will be a collector of Christian Lacroix jewelry...

Very rare and beautiful perfume bottle, created in Paris France by Jean Louis Scherrer, back in the late 20th century. This exotic perfume bottle was made as a promotion for the launching of his famous Scherrer 2 perfume in 1986. Carefully crafted in the art deco style with skyscraper patterns, in solid sterling silver of .925/.999 with high polished finish. Fitted with a lid and a pistil to applicate the perfume and scents.
Weight: 130.95 Grams, (83.94 Dwt).
Measurements: 86 mm by 24 mm by 18 mm (3.40 x 0.94 x 0.71 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks, the silver assay mark, the maker's mark of SF inside a lozange cartouche, the edition number and signed, "JEAN LOUIS SCHERRER PARIS 925 Sterling #0202"

Jean-Louis Scherrer born in Paris in February. He was a Parisian fashion designer and couturier. Although he had name recognition and was known for his work, he is mainly noted for being the first couture designer to be sacked from their own-name label in 1992. Scherrer trained as a dancer at the Conservatoire de Paris until he injured his back, which put him out of action for three months. He then decided to focus on fashion design, and in 1956, joined Christian Dior as an assistant designer alongside Yves Saint Laurent. Following Dior's death in 1957, Scherrer worked under Saint Laurent, and then for Louis Féraud, before launching his own fashion house in 1962 on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré with the backing of Jacques Chabrol, a French millionaire. In the mid-1960s Scherrer had an agreement with the American department store Bergdorf Goodman to grant them exclusive rights to reproduce and resell his designs in the United States. His clients included Anne-Aymone Giscard d'Estaing, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Raquel Welch, who wore Scherrer animal-print dresses in the 1977 film L'Animal. By the 1980s, his work was known for its opulence and luxury, with many garments hand-beaded, embroidered and lavishly trimmed. An objet de Vertu designed by Roberto Legnazzi.
An incredible over sized piece, created in Alessandria Italy at the jewelry atelier of Roberto Legnazzi, back in the 1970's. This is a fabulous objet de vertu piece to be exhibited in any desk or place. Has been carefully crafted with strong orientalism patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. It is embellished with a nice selection of calibrated white colorless diamonds and is mount with an incredible extra large piece of natural coral, carved with Japanese motifs and the figure of a standing Quan Yin. The blade is made in the shape of a samurai katana sword.
Diamonds: Mount in a flush setting, with 60 round brilliant cut diamonds, 1.82 carats, white colorless E/F color, VS-2 Clarity.
Coral: Mount on top, with 1 piece of coral, carved with orientalism motifs.
Onyx: Accented with, 1 oval double cabochon cut carved from black onyx.
Weight: 334.95 Grams, (214.72 Dwt).
Measurements: 454.66 mm by 142.75 mm (17.90 x 5.62 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark associated to Roberto Legnazzi, the Italian mark for the gold assay signed, "18KT .750 *1932AL".

The Legnazzi company represents the fourth generation of a family of jewelers who creates jewelry since 1911 in his workshop in Valenza. The style Legnazzi is a bright example of Italian jewelry tradition and has been able to perpetuate itself over time thanks to the elegance that expresses in his creations. They was always looking for innovation and with a great attention to detail, they seek to satisfy the tastes of a sophisticated international clientele. His exquisite jewels are popular not only in Italy but all over the world. The atelier of Roberto Legnazzi was one of the master enamellers of the David Webb Company back in the 1970's. Actually his jewelry atelier is located at the Corso Giacomo Matteotti, 2, Valenza Alessandria.
