Sara Fine-Wilson's “Swarming Bulge" is a gestural 22 x 7 x 6 inch ceramic sculpture in cream and warm gray. It is hand built and wheel constructed in white stoneware. Individual hand formed details are layered over the entire surface creating a graceful and fluid form. The surface is coated in a warm cream matte glaze that becomes darker gray and glossy along the edges that have been caught during the soda firing process. The glaze emphasizes the contrast between surfaces and edges. Fine Wilson’s ceramic work contains elements of both raw and refined surfaces including cracks, ruptures and pooling of glaze.

Hazel Brill Jackson (Born December 15, 1894, in Philadelphia) spent most of her early childhood in Italy. Attending the Scuola Rosatti in Florence, Jackson enjoyed afternoons at the zoo, pursuing her favorite pastime: drawing animals. World War I forced the return of the Jackson family to the United States where they settled in Boston. Hazel spent the next four years at the Boston Museum School, where she studied with Bela Pratt and Charles Grafly.
Jackson returned to Rome after the war, where she worked with Angelo Zanelli and later had her own studio. With such works as Roman Work Horse and Ned (Mussolini's favorite jumper), she began to exhibit both in Rome and Florence, and eventually became a member of the Circolo Artistico di Roma.
The sculptress returned to the United States in 1935 and opened a studio in Newburgh, New York. She continued to sculpt animals, concentrating on horse and dog portraits. Jackson had one-woman shows at the Guild of Boston Artists in 1938 and in 1968. In 1945, she was awarded the Ellin P. Speyer Prize by the National Academy of Design in New York City for Play-Day and Romance (a mare and foal group) and in 1949, she won the same prize for Indian Antelope. Hazel Jackson is represented in the Brookgreen Gardens collection by The Listeners, a sculpture group of raccoons, which was placed there in 1964. The “Lantern Columns” are a group of 7 towers, ranging from 4 feet to 7 feet tall. They have been shown in various configurations in multiple US States as well as the Fukuoka City Museum in Kyushu, Japan. Hugh Holborn is that rare kind of craftsman who is also an auteur in his own right. He started his journey when he was 12 as an apprentice for New Mexico sculptor Jim Martin. From there he went on to study his craft at the American College of Building Art. He brings industrial materials such as steel, iron and salvaged metals to life as metallic marine life, honoring the aquatic creatures around which he lives. Growing up between the New England islands and Florida, Holborn feels blessed to have always lived boating on and swimming in the waters that now inspire his metalwork. Memories from diving and fishing are important parts of his life, yet with climate changed and increased environmental concerns he also recognizes his experience with the ocean as impermanent.
Holborn now lives in St. Augustine, Florida with his girlfriend and their newborn twin daughters. His artwork has given him a sense of self reliance and environmental stewardship—being able to craft functional items for his own home and doing so in a way he knows is environmentally conscious. He plans to keep creating art using historical methods, and wants to keep those methods alive by teaching them to new craftsman...

Niho Kozuru (髙鶴丹穂) is a Japanese-born mixed media artist based in Boston, MA. Kozuru casts and reconfigures molds of her own designs, classical and industrial turned architectural forms in unexpected materials. Using rubber, glass and clay she creates columns with undulating silhouettes.
The “Lantern Columns” are a group of 7 towers, ranging from 4 feet to 7 feet tall. They have been shown in various configurations in multiple US States as well as the Fukuoka City Museum in Kyushu, Japan. Kozuru made 60 components by blowing glass into molds of her own designs while at Artists in Residency at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.
After traveling the world, the Lantern Columns have been arranged into their final configuration, with a steel armature within and each topped with a vivid cast iron final...

As a continuation of the screens series, I experimented with adding air between layers to show the organic process and the play with not only reflected light from behind, but also shadow. (Photo files include one angled shot, and one closeup.)
