Katie Commodore is an interdisciplinary artist who concentrates on creating intimate portraits of her friends, often focusing on how they express their sexuality. In 2000 Commodore received her BFA in illustration from Maryland Institute College of Art. There is in Prophecy the idea of an incantation, of magic words allowing to transgress the laws of reality. A golden melody emanating from the tormented depths of the ocean. A liquid knowledge subject to the interpretation of each and that each can seek in the sensations that awaken. Mixing Gold powder and Iron, the scriptures of PROPHECY are as if corroded by time, already on the way to their disappearance. Evoking an ancient knowledge that modernity would have tried to erase, it imposes itself as the vector of an unnameable divine source. They appear and disappear like a breath whose echo resounds with a universal spirituality established in sensations. In a world where the letters and the texts are present everywhere, these scriptures reveal themselves as a silent language established beyond the immediate meaning. Unreadable by the mind, the letter that has become a sign is now receptive to a new meaning given by the observer. Failing to be able to decipher them, it is a question of feeling them for their metaphysical and symbolic power. Just as Kandinsky aspires to produce a painting capable of provoking a «spiritual awakening», PROPHECY proposes the construction of a new universal language based on sensations. --- Mathilde Lefort is a french visual artist based in Bali, Indonesia Holder of a Master’s Degree at EHESS Paris (France), Mathilde is specialized in war representations and human rights. In parallel with her theoretical studies, she developed an artistic practice around these questions. Using art video, installation and visual publications, she exhibited her work both in Paris and across Europe. Going back to New Caledonia, she lived in total immersion in a tribe located in the north of the island from 2017 to 2019. There she co-direct EDEN TRIBAL, 52 min documentary produced by Box Fish Productions and sold to France Television. The movie tells the story of a Kanak woman fighting to be the chief of her tribe, within the context of the island’s referendum for independence. This period was spent in a deep loneliness. Rejected by the community while deeply in love, Mathilde wandered the darkness of her soul. She captured empty landscapes and wrote the ambulations of her mind to reflect on her loss of identity, the meaning of love, the woman’s place, racism and colonialism. Now in Bali, she follows an unpredictable journey intertwining art, death, and magic. This photogravure by Carol Munder, 16 x 16" framed; has a beautiful sense of light that creates an expressive image for the viewer, depicting a quiet scene divided in foreground, middle ground, and background that draws the viewer into the atmospheric perspective. In the foreground there is a haunting figure making eye contact, followed by some houses that create a gap to reveal another figure in the background that is out of focus, all if these aspects come together creating an engaging narrative. Carol Munder (b. 1953) is a Key West based photographer and lithographer. Munder graduated from Colombia College in 1973 with a focus in photography. In 1986, she was the recipient of the NEXUS PRESS Book Competition residency. From the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, she created large-format black and white prints of nineteenth-century statuary and Etruscan figurines utilizing a simplistic camera with a plastic lens. After she acquired a gravure press, Munder taught herself the art of photogravure. Munder explains, "This [plastic] lens produces a soft focus image that is evident in my work…The tree then branches as I work with the process if photogravure. Photogravure is a 19th century technique used to transfer an image to a copper plate by means of photomechanical process... the plate is [then] inked and printed on paper using a gravure press. My current imagery is focusing on wooden sculptures that have been found in French flea markets"

Reminiscent of the Fauvist movement and Italian classicism, Italian artist Giuseppe Beddru’s bold outlines, dynamic brushstrokes and contrasting use of color make his work visually exciting. His work is extremely personal as well, drawing upon the Arab presence on the island where he grew up and his own Italian heritage. His paintings are indicative of self-discovery and emotional awareness, while also focusing on color, composition, and technical skill. This balance of visual dynamics and emotional response is essential to Beddru’s work. Many of Beddru’s multi-media paintings include the visual motifs of classical Greek bas-relief sculpture, flattened within the confines of Plexiglas. Athletes and female portraits in profile are reminiscent of coins and popular classical imagery. After having admired and studied the works of the great masters, Beddru left Italy to continue his practice abroad. This vibrant one-of-a-kind 22 inch square artwork is painted among many layers of Plexiglas panels. Beddru's pictorial subjects are represented through ink-based mixed media, applied via reverse painting techniques inspired by Italian painters from the seventeenth century. Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. In 1989, Kuhn moved to the US and earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Occasionally, Mona teaches at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Mona Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debuted by Steidl in 2004; followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), Private (2014), and She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2018/19). In addition, Kuhn's monograph titled Bushes and Succulents has been published by Stanley/Barker Editions, with a debut at Jeu de Paume in Paris, in 2019. A stunning career retrospective of Mona Kuhn's works has been published by Thames & Hudson, Spring 2021. A sculpture by Theaster Gates. "Stand-Ins for Period of Wreckage 25" is a contemporary sculpture, white concrete and porcelain by American, Blue Chip artist Theaster Gates. The artwork is unsigned. Theaster Gates' practice includes sculpture, installation, performance and urban interventions that aim to bridge the gap between art and life. Gates works as an artist, curator, urbanist and facilitator and his projects attempt to instigate the creation of cultural communities by acting as catalysts for social engagement that leads to political and spatial change. Gates has described his working method as “critique through collaboration” – often with architects, researchers and performers – to create works that stretch the idea of what we usually understand visual-based practices to be. For his exhibition at Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition in 2010, for example, Gates invited a 250 strong gospel choir into the galleries to sing songs adapted from the inscriptions on pots by the famous 19th century slave and potter 'Dave Drake'. For the 2010 Whitney Biennial, Gates transformed the Whitney’s Sculpture Court with a spare, architectural installation that functioned as a communal gathering space for performances, social engagement, and contemplation.
