Gel Monochrome #6
Located in Greenwich, CT
Gel Monochrome #6 is an oil painting on prepared paper, sheet size 22 x 14.75 inches, signed, titled and dated verso, 'Ben Weiner Gel Monochrome #6 2019' and framed in a contemporary white frame. Connecting two opposing styles—abstraction and photorealism—Ben Weiner creates hyper-detailed, lush paintings and videos of extremely magnified consumer products, including hair gel, chemical food additives, and deodorant. In his work, he presents such meticulously rendered, close-up views of his subjects that they read as pure abstractions. A through-line in Weiner’s various bodies of work is contemporary culture’s obsession with bodily enhancement through chemical products—whether by using hair products or taking illegal drugs. "The Gel Series presents a virtual environment that is in flux. Based on hair gel, a material that is physically malleable and visually enticing, it has the ability to change one’s physical appearance. In an abstract manner, the painting reflects our current global environment, subject to constant, dramatic change and rapid development- on the one hand through humanity’s ability to alter the face of the earth according to its ideas; on the other through changing environmental conditions and natural disasters". - Ben Weiner Ben Charles Weiner (b. 1980) is a New York based contemporary artist. His work bridges the seemingly opposite styles of hyperrealism, and process-based abstraction. Mr. Weiner has exhibited his work widely in the US and internationally, at institutions including The Carnegie Art Museum, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The Boca Raton Museum of Art, and The Tarble Art Center. His work is in public collections including Microsoft, Sammlung/Collection, Progressive Insurance, and The Frederick R. Weisman Collection...

Figure Study (From Interior: Evening)
Located in Fairlawn, OH
Signed and numbered by the artist Edition: 25 Printed on Hahnemuhle paper Published by Neptune Fine Arts Condition: excellent Plate/Image size: Sheet size: "Stone Roberts’ luminous still lifes, private interiors, and large-scale panoramas of figures in motion invite us to look—and then look some more—and relish in the sensuality of the three-dimensional world. While Roberts’ varied influences include Greek Mythology and Roman Classicism, Dutch and Spanish Old Masters, Fantin-Latour, Ingres, and Balthus, his subjects are decidedly of today. From Grand Central Terminal to his wife gardening in Stonington, Connecticut, Roberts paints people and places from his personal surroundings into formal compositions that often appear to have mythical, literary, or psychological elements. Roberts received his B.A. from Yale University, New Haven, CT, where he studied painting with William Bailey, and his M.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, and Rome. Roberts' work can be found in numerous public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe, including the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louis-Dreyfus Family Collection, New York. A solo exhibition of Stone Roberts’ work was held at the Museum of the City of New York in 2012 entitled Stone Roberts: New York City Paintings." Photography, Drawings, Prints, Sculptures and Paintings for Sale

Whether growing your current fine art collection or taking the first steps on that journey, you will find an extensive range of original photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and more on 1stDibs.

Visual art is among the oldest forms of expression, and it has been evolving for centuries. Beautiful objects can provide a window to the past or insight into our current time. Art collecting enhances daily life through the presence of meaningful work. It displays an appreciation for culture, whether a print by Elizabeth Catlett channeling social change or a narrative quilt by Faith Ringgold.

Contemporary art has lured more initiates to collecting than almost any other category, with notable artists including Yayoi Kusama, Marc Chagall, Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Navigating the waiting lists for the next Marlene Dumas, Jeff Koons or Jasper Johns has become competitive.

When you’re living with art, particularly as people more often work from home and enjoy their spaces, it’s important to choose art that resonates with you. While the richness of art with its many movements, styles and histories can be overwhelming, the key is to identify what is appealing and inspiring. Artwork can play with the surrounding color of a room, creating a layered approach. The dynamic shapes and sizes of sculptures can set different moods, such as a bronze by Miguel Guía on a mantel or an Alexander Calder mobile suspended over a table. A wall of art can evoke emotions in an interior while showing off your tastes and interests. A salon-style wall mixing eclectic pieces like landscape paintings with charcoal drawings is a unique way to transform a space and show off a collection.

For art meditating on the subconscious, investigate Surrealists like Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí. Explore Pop art and its leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Rosalyn Drexler and Keith Haring for bright and bold colors. Not only did these artists question art itself, but also how we perceive society. Similarly, 20th-century photography and abstract painting reconsidered the intent of art.

Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner and Color Field artists including Sam Gilliam broke from conventional ideas of painting, while Op artists such as Yaacov Agam embraced visual trickery and kinetic movement. Novel visuals are also integral to contemporary work influenced by street art, such as sculptures and prints by KAWS.

Realist portraiture is a global tradition reflecting on what makes us human. This is reflected in the work of Slim Aarons, an American photographer whose images are at once candid and polished and appeared in Holiday magazine and elsewhere. Innovative artists Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall are now offering new perspectives on the form.

Collecting art is a rewarding, lifelong pursuit that can help connect you with the creative ways historic, modern and contemporary artists have engaged with the world. For more tips on piecing together an art collection, see our guide to buying and displaying art.

A variety of authentic art is available on 1stDibs. Explore art at auction and the 1stDibs NFT art marketplace, too.
