John Duffin Prints and Multiples

John Duffin is a painter and printmaker whose work is based on the modern environments of cities and towns, creating dynamic and cinematic images of contemporary urban life. His unique images of architecture, lighting and figures have been greatly praised and awarded, recently receiving the Most Outstanding Print Award from Sir Peter Blake. He has a distinctive artistic voice and has much to say in his work about contemporary life in all of its manifestations. His work is in the tradition of LS Lowry in Britain and Edward Hopper in America and like these artists, he creates unique views of contemporary urban life, a combination of his ability as a draughtsman, his imagination and his personal use of perspective and color. Duffin makes drawings and watercolors in front of his chosen subject and takes these sketches back to his London studio, where he creates from them his imaginative interpretation of the site, recreating the place anew via his imagination. Duffin's work is redolent with influences from cinema, graphic novels and the history of figurative painting, but from this comes a vision that is his alone.

'King's Cross Station is a place of great significance to me, many departures and arrivals have taken place at this station. Operation Sail, Statue of Liberty
By Cuca Romley
Located in San Francisco, CA
Artist: Cuca Romley– Spanish/American, b.1933 Title: Operation Sail Year: 1986 Medium: Color etching Image size: 17.5 x 24.75 inches. Sheet size: 22.25 x 30 nches. Paper: Tiepolo Fabriano Signature: Hand signed in pencil by the artist Edition: Numbered 5/10 H.C in pencil Condition: Excellent, has never been framed Cuca Romley is in her eighties, and currently based in Spain after spending decades in New York City. She was trained at The École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), a distinguished National School of Fine Arts in Paris, France. The artist won several noted awards for her art in her native Spain, and in Paris, France. She worked as an artist and also had a career in advertising, illustration and interior design, in Spain, France and New York. As an artist, she has had solo and group exhibitions first Paris, France, Monaco, Japan, Spain and the US. Cuca Romley’s etchings of both famous and little places around the world are depicted with a remarkable attention to detail, a style that belies her sophisticated sense of line and color. These etchings capture a bygone era of a city in flux, and a snap shot of a classic image of a place. Each plate is etched with patience and a thoroughness reminiscence of the earlier days of engraving, in exquisite and fine detail. Romley creates her intricate design on the etching ground that covers the copper plate. After the acid has etched the lines into the copper plate she engraves the details into the plate with a burin until the image is completed. For each individual print, a master printer must ink the plate and wipe the surface clean. The plate is placed on the bed of the press and the previously wet paper 100% cotton Tiepolo Fabriano covering the plate, is passed through the press, and that completes the printing process. After the printing ink has dried for a couple of days, the etching is ready for the hand coloring by the artist. There are often more than 30 colors in one of Romley’s images. Each print can take up to 6 hours to color; these colors impart a subtle transparent effect that compliments the delicacy of the line. 2016 Group Show - Guild Hall, East Hampton, N.Y., USA 2013-16 Barcelona Design Gallery, Barcelona, Spain 2010 Group Show - Elaine Benson Gallery, Bridgehampton, N.Y., USA Group Show - Guild Hall, East Hampton, N.Y., USA Group Show - Gallery International Naive Art, N.Y., USA 2009 Group Show - Gallery International Naive Art, N.Y., USA 2008 Group Show - Gallery International Naive Art, N.Y., USA Group Show - Guild Hall, East Hampton, N.Y., USA Group Show - The Winter Tree Gallery, Sag Harbor, N.Y., USA Gina Gallery, New York, N.Y., USA Guild Hall, East Hampton, N.Y., USA 2007 The Cordova Gallery, Greenport, N.Y., USA 2006 One Person Show - JP Morgan Chase, New York, N.Y., USA The Winter Tree Gallery, Sag Harbor, N.Y., USA 2005 One Person Show - JP Morgan Chase, New York, N.Y., USA The Winter Tree Gallery, Sag Harbor, N.Y., USA 2004 One Person Show - JP Morgan Chase, New York, N.Y., USA 2003 One Person Show - JP Morgan Chase, New York, N.Y., USA One Person Show - Galerie Select, East Hampton, N.Y., USA Group Show - Frank F. Hidden Cities I / second state
By Peter Milton
Located in New York, NY
“Hidden Cities I : The Ministry. Second State.” Contemporary artist Peter Milton created this etching and engraving in 2006. The printed image size is Image size 23.50 x 36.88 inches and the paper size is 31 x 42 inches. This impression is signed, dated, and titled in pencil and inscribed “11/75” – the 11th impression from the total printing of 75. “I do love to draw. I feel that I am being granted membership in the Brotherhood of Merlin, conjuring forth some apparition. As a drawing develops, I sense a vague presence coming more and more into focus, something in a white fog emerging and becoming increasingly palpable.” – P. Milton, “The primacy of touch. The Drawings of Peter Milton” “Working in layers, Milton begins with drawings based on people and places, with nods to Western art history and culture. He is a master of the appropriated image, a term that may conjure Andy Warhol and his Pop Art comrades. But Milton steps further back in history, avoiding the Pop sense of cool advertising and popular culture references. Instead, a broader cultural past is tapped through historical photographs of key players, architecture, and locales, which he reinvents by hand. He adds content drawn from his life as an avid reader – always with multiple possible interpretations – thus incorporating deeper meaning in his cinematic worlds. Elements of Greek mythology, classical music, art history, and history coalesce in his images, which embrace the messiness, sorrow, and elation that is life. One is hard-pressed to imagine a more erudite, skilled, passionate, and cheeky soul. In addition to a storied career in printmaking, since 2007 Milton has fearlessly produced artwork digitally. He now creates images using Adobe Photoshop in files consisting of more than two thousand layers, which are printed both as digital prints on paper and, for display on Led light boxes...
