Judy Cassab Art

Australian, b. 1920

Judy Cassab AO CBE was an Australian female painter. Cassab was born as Judit Kaszab in Vienna, Austria, in 1920 to Hungarian parents. Her husband was put in a forced labor camp by the Nazis in World War II and returned to Hungary in 1944. Cassab moved to Australia in 1950 and settled in Sydney. She was the first woman to win the Archibald Prize twice in 1960 for a portrait of Stan Rapotec and in 1967 for a portrait of Margo Lewers. Cassab has held more than 50 solo exhibitions in Australia, as well as others in Paris and London.
