The brooch has English hallmarks, stamped with a lion, an anchor, and the date letter is 'S'. The makers mark is AJS for Arthur Johnson Smith. This means that the brooch is sterling silver, assayed in Birmingham, and is dated 1892. Measuring length 4.1cm / 1.6 inches by maximum width 8.5mm / .33 inch. The clasp works well. We have given the brooch a light clean.
