Stow Davis Kidney Shaped Executive Desk
Located in Hanover, MA
Handsome late 1940's American Art Deco kidney shaped desk designed by Giacomo "Jack" Buzzita for Stow Davis' Executive collection. Beautifully refinished bleached walnut large kidney shaped top overhangs ovoid shaped satin finished dark walnut case of drawers with cast bronze pulls and a crescent moon shaped pedestal support, both on a shaped ebonized plinth. Case appears like four drawers but is actually three as the middle is double height and fitted for files. Organizer vide poche in top drawer along with metal label "Stow & Davis Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan". Crescent moon pedestal can be reversed if preferred so the cove faces inside (see last two detail images). Stylistically similar to designs of Gilbert Rohde. Depth of top from center is 39 inches. This particular desk is unusual insofar as all the others I've seen are oriented the other way so that the ovoid case is on the left side and the crescent pedestal is on the right while the kidney top...

Florence Knoll Style Stow Davis Oval Dining Conference Table Desk Walnut Bronze
Located in Philadelphia, PA
This gorgeous midcentury table is incredibly practical. Because of its dimensions and purposeful design, it can serve as a dining table, a conference table, or as a majestic desk. The oval top, which is 1, 1/4 inch thick, has many alluring design elements, including a starburst pattern to the inlaid walnut top. The edge treatment includes an solid walnut bullnose tip crowning a knife-edge profile, as seen in the iconic designs by Florence Knoll. The base consists of a thick column supported by four splayed legs having levelling pods at the end of each. The base is constructed of steel and has a bronzed finish. Both the brass and paper manufacturer labels are intact on the underside of the top. There is a warm patina to the original finish on the walnut top. There are a few hard-to-see blemishes. And there is minor oxidation to the base. The table is quite heavy, but the design of the splayed legs more than adequately supports the expansive surface. So, no wobbling. You will love the original condition of this vintage and classic...

Stow & Davis Cognac Leather Modern Tuxedo Chesterfield Style Tufted Sofa
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous Stow & Davis cognac leather modern tuxedo or Chesterfield style sofa with a walnut plinth base, loose seat cushions and deep tufted button detail. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There was a scuff on the upper right arm corner that has been repaired. Other scuffs have been touched up and the base has been refinished but still has a light spot where the wood grain was different. And the zipper in one seat cushion has been replaced. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1978. Have you been looking for a sofa that makes a statement? Look no further!! This is an absolutely gorgeous saddle or cognac leather sofa by Stow & Davis. It is comprised of a tuxedo or modernized chesterfield style frame with stunning tight, deep tufted button detail on the back and inner arms, three loose leather seat cushions with fabric backs, and a walnut plinth base. WOW!! It is magnificent! It’s going to look outstanding in your Modern living room, but it would be equally as awesome in an office, sitting room, or flanking your fireplace. It would be gorgeous in your industrial loft, mountain lodge, or contemporary apartment. Stow & Davis is well known for their eclectic style, profound comfort and superb quality, and this sofa is no exception!! It is nothing short of spectacular! Stow & Davis furniture company was founded in 1885 by George A. Davis when he purchased Thomas Haight’s interest in Stow & Haight and changed the name to Stow & Davis. Since then, the company has consistently grown and expanded to become one of the foremost leaders of the industry and is still in business today. The firm primarily produced kitchen, dining, and office extension tables. In 1928, the firm acquired Grand Rapids Desk...

Shop Unique Furniture on 1stDibs

When it comes to shopping for vintage, new and antique furniture — whether you’re finally moving into that long-coveted loft apartment, ranch-style home, townhouse or furnishing your weekend house on the lake — you should think of your home as a stage for the seating, tables, lighting, storage cabinets and other pieces that best match your personality.

Coziness, comfort and creating a welcoming space are among the important things to consider when buying furniture, whether that means seeking strict cohesion or rooms characterized by a mix-and-match assembly of varying shapes, colors and materials. And for those who now work from home, exercise, eat and relax within the same four walls every day, they’ll also want to think about flexibility and an innovative approach.

Have you built your dream kitchen?

Is your current living-room furniture all that it could be?

Does your toast-worthy bar or vintage bar cart exude equal parts class and cheeriness?

And importantly, is your home officebackyard or otherwise — a happy one, regardless of the design style you happen to gravitate toward?

Although mid-century modern, rustic, minimalist, Art Deco and contemporary looks remain popular, they aren’t the only styles available to design connoisseurs.

Furniture styles are nothing if not fluid, meaning what’s popular one year may not be the next. That’s why it’s crucial to not only pay attention to interior-design trends but also focus on the styles that speak to you. That way, you (and your interior designer, if that is in the plans) can work to create a home that’s entirely your own, complete with impressively modern decor as well as an array of history’s universally renowned iconic designs.

It’s difficult to single out well-recognized designs from what is a crowded pantheon of celebrated and seminal furnishings. Certain outstanding designs have such stellar quality they’ve endured for decades as bona fide cultural treasures, still being manufactured, in many cases, by the same venerable companies that shepherded them into being (think Herman Miller, Knoll and Fritz Hansen). Some works come immediately to mind as contenders for any short list. When you’re discussing the most popular mid-century modern chairs, for example, no tally would be complete without citing designs by Arne Jacobsen, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames and Hans Wegner.

Good furniture, be it authentic vintage furniture or new & custom furniture, allows you to comfortably sit and tell your favorite stories. Great furniture tells a story of its own.

On 1stDibs, find everything from sofas to serveware to credenzas to coffee tables, and every other type of antique, vintage and new furniture you need to create a singular space that you’ll be proud to call home.
