A vintage Mid-Century Modern French, Italian pendant, chandelier made of hand blown sandblasted opal glass and brass, designed by Max-Ingrand and produced by FontanaArte in good condition. The ceiling lamp, light is hanging, supported by two polished brass arms, imitating a ventilator. The satin-finish ground glass diffusers, shades are open, featuring a four light socket. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. circa 1940 - 1950, Milan, Italy.

Maurice Max-Ingrand, better known as Max Ingrand was a French artist, designer and decorator born in 1908 in Bressuire, France and passed away in 1969 Paris. Ingrand studied in Paris at the French University École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. During this time, he was educated by the well-know French glass artists Jaques Grüber and Charles Lemaresquier. In 1937, he participated in designing the church windows of the Notre-Dame de Paris. During 1954 - 1967, Ingrand was the artistic director of the Italian design company FontanaArte.

Italian Art Deco designer Pietro Chiesa was born in Milan in 1892 into a family of artists from Ticino, Switzerland. After his studies at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, he completed an apprenticeship at the studio of furniture designer Giovan Battista Giannotti; after gathering enough confidence and experience, Chiesa opened his studio in 1921 under the name of Bottega di Pietro Chiesa.
Known above all for his work as a glassmaker, Chiesa presented his work for the first time in 1925 at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. In 1932 his studio became part of Fontana Arte, the legendary Italian manufacturer of lighting and glass objects founded by Gio Ponti and Luigi Fontana. Chiesa becomes the artistic director of the company and over the years has designed numerous models for Fontana Arte, including lamps, windows, tables and artistic furnishing objects. "Kanji" is a collection of lighting elements that reinterprets traditional Oriental portable lanterns in a contemporary vision. Available in tabletop and ceiling models, it draws inspiration from Chinese porcelain dating from the Ming dynasty. The hand-blown glass diffuser, in frosted white and translucent smoky gray, is adorned with a pleated surface decoration.
A LED ring runs inside the structure and magically illuminates the diffuser. Evocative of Far East not only as form but also as a name, as "Kanji" are characters of Chinese origin used in Japanese writing in conjunction with the Hiragana and Katakana syllabaries, "Kanji" is designed to be used alone or in pairs, with each form amplifying the aesthetic power of the other.

It's provided with a dimmer inserted on the electrical cord and lighting sources are two 11W LED (3000K, CRI>80, Lumen 1384 + 1384).
"Optunia" is a collection of lighting elements available in four variants for tabletop (with or without stem), floor, wall and ceiling. Its functionality lies in the possibility of rotating the two discs that make up the nearly 360 degrees head, opening up an extraordinary number of lighting combinations. The lower disc rotates on one axis, while the upper disk simultaneously rotates on a second axis, perpendicular to the first.
This double movement gives "Optunia" the advantages of both direct and indirect light emission, exploiting the surface of the wall or ceiling to produce a soft light. Complementing its functionality, the design of such lamp is reminiscent of a form found in nature: the two disks resemble the pads of the prickly pear called "Opuntia ficus-indica", from which the lamp takes its name. A collection of exceptional technical sophistication, whose form is further emphasized by its colors: opaque white, bold and clean, dark mirrored chrome, recalling the preciousness of metal, a darker shade resembling onyx and quartz color, shifting from dark brown to black.
