Vintage bar trolley designed by Cesare Lacca for Cassina. This trolley was designed in Italy between 1950 and 1959. It is made of lacquered rosewood and patinated copper. The copper has traces of corrosion. The trolley still has two original glass "trays" and a bracket for bottles. The patina gives the trolley a beautiful vintage look.

Born in Naples in 1929, Italian architect-designer Cesare Lacca created modernist furniture and metalwork in the 1950s. Beautiful antique pair of candleholders created with Art Nouveau patterns at the Tiffany Studios in New York city, circa 1903. They was crafted under the directory presidency of Charles T. Cook (1902-1907) during the Edwardian era (1901-1911) in solid sterling silver .925/.999 with a fluted repousse trumpet plain patterns. They are convertible and can be dismounted to be used as a single or with three candles. This extremely rare pieces are from a very small edition of only 20 pieces and was carefully crafted with beautiful and elegant Art Nouveau patterns in solid sterling silver .925/.999 with very high polished finish.
As with all Tiffany pieces, the quality and design are beyond compare. Exceptional and rare example of Tiffany's finest work.
Weight: Combined of 1796.3 grams or 57.72 troy ounces
Measurements: 12.5 by13.6 by 5.3 inches (31.75 x 34.55 x 13.46 Cm).

The pattern Colonial was introduced in 1895 but did not get patent until 1896. This contradicts the mark, as the dies were made with the anticipated patent date, and when it happened later than expected the expense to change it was too high. The pattern was discontinued in 1913. It was designed by Paulding Franham and was plain in comparison to his later designs. The handle is bordered by four bands which form a scroll with leaf, but the back is not an identical pattern, but similar.
George Paulding Farnham (1859-1927) was born in New York City. His aunt married Charles T Cook, who assumed presidency of Tiffany after the death of Charles L Tiffany in 1902. Farnham attended Tiffany school and was trained by Edward C Moore and Charles Gosjean. He stayed with Tiffany and eventually became a board member in 1888 and in 1893 was appointed chief designer and head of jewelry later also assuming the role of artistic director of the silver department as well. His flatware designs were similar to jewelry designs, very ornate, elaborate, and in "beaux arts" tradition. He created six full sterling lines for Tiffany during his time, before leaving Tiffany in 1908.

Though details of his personal life and professional training remain lost to history, there are sufficient surviving primary sources that document his many elegant designs in brass—work for which he is best know and which fetch high prices from collectors.
Like many Italian designers in the 20th century, Lacca moved to Milan after World War II to launch his career. Before he was even 21 years old, his work was selected by a group of American curators for inclusion in the landmark exhibition Italy at Work: Her Renaissance in Design Today that toured 12 US museums between 1950 and 1953—the first major exhibition of Italian design outside of Italy. The exhibition showcased the best and brightest of Italian designers who had embraced modernist principles and rejuvenated traditional Italian crafts, like Carlo Mollino , Franco Albini, and Gio Ponti
In the exhibition catalogue, curator Meyric R. Roger’s spotlights Lacca's expert achievements in brass, noting “the variety and quality of his creations,” which “place him high among the architect-designers leading the current [Modernist] movement." Rogers adds, "The quality of his work...provide[s] all the decorative effectiveness needed without strain or exaggeration”.
Lacca designed a great many tea carts and serving trolleys in his career—which make up a large proportion of what is available on the vintage market today—as well as magazine racks and coffee tables. Lacca’s most iconic tea cart was manufactured by Italian brand Cassina and features sculpted beech, cedar, teak, or walnut with brass details, a glass tabletop, and a removable glass tray.
