Roger Capron - End Table, Garrigue + Brown Ceramic Tiles, Dovetail Metal Frame
Located in Stratford, CT
*** Important detail: custom height available (1)*** Square end table with the famous Roger Capron Garrigue tiles, designed from 1968 to 1982. Mr. Capron was often balancing his designs by incorporating either brown or white enameled terra cotta tiles. The handcrafted Garrigue tiles are produced by a technique in which real leaves were pressed into the clay and, during firing, disintegrated, leaving a finely detailed imprint. The leaves come from "La Garrigue", a variety of vegetation indigenous to southeastern France only, where Roger Capron lived and worked for 60 years. These Garrigue tiles inspired a large series of side to dining tables, including wall covering. Many kitchen in the French Riviera have their walls covered with Garrigue tiles. This table is mounted on a really sturdy dovetail metal frame. It is in near perfect condition, patina due to age on metal frame. (1) Mr Capron was extremely influenced by the Japanese life style; coffee table are usually low. We can change the legs to match your desired height. Please keep in mind that we provide this service only for the tables that have a dovetail frame and for which the frames have a similar look with the replacement legs...

Roger Capron - Stunning Ceramic Coffee Table with Lava Tiles, Metal Frame, 1970s
Located in Stratford, CT
Looking for a spectacular ceramic coffee table! Look no further. Ceramic top with pleasing modulations and contrasts between colors (Off-white, gray, amber and gold), textures (smooth, rough), linings (texture lines, designed lines and grout lines), geometric patterns (within and between tiles) and tile sizes. The very best in ceramic coffee tables Roger Capron had to offer. Ceramic tiles are all made of lava, lighter in weight, supporting all these variations mentioned above. Moreover, each tile was shaped and flattened by hand, which was a first for Mr Capron's work. Mr Capron built up his company from 1 to 120 employees from 1946 to 1982. Here is a quick summary of his prolific production: - Free forms decorative items with handglazed decors and drawings (from 1948) - Navet tiles hand glazed on industrial tiles from Villeroy and Boch (From 1950 to 1958) - Planet tiles hand glazed on industrial tiles from Villeroy and Boch (From 1959 to 1975) - Hand shaped ceramics (mostly humidors and lamps) covering the 19070's - Indoors and outdoors wall panels covering buildings and lobbies. Most famous ones are 5 stars Hotel Byblos in Saint Tropez (with Jean Derval), Gare maritime de Cannes, - Lava tiles in hundreds of colors and textures (1970 to 1984) - This coffe table comes this production. - Garrigue and Herbiers tiles (1970 to 1984) - Unique whimsical sculptures, including gigantic sculptures...

Shop Unique Furniture on 1stDibs

When it comes to shopping for vintage, new and antique furniture — whether you’re finally moving into that long-coveted loft apartment, ranch-style home, townhouse or furnishing your weekend house on the lake — you should think of your home as a stage for the seating, tables, lighting, storage cabinets and other pieces that best match your personality.

Coziness, comfort and creating a welcoming space are among the important things to consider when buying furniture, whether that means seeking strict cohesion or rooms characterized by a mix-and-match assembly of varying shapes, colors and materials. And for those who now work from home, exercise, eat and relax within the same four walls every day, they’ll also want to think about flexibility and an innovative approach.

Have you built your dream kitchen?

Is your current living-room furniture all that it could be?

Does your toast-worthy bar or vintage bar cart exude equal parts class and cheeriness?

And importantly, is your home officebackyard or otherwise — a happy one, regardless of the design style you happen to gravitate toward?

Although mid-century modern, rustic, minimalist, Art Deco and contemporary looks remain popular, they aren’t the only styles available to design connoisseurs.

Furniture styles are nothing if not fluid, meaning what’s popular one year may not be the next. That’s why it’s crucial to not only pay attention to interior-design trends but also focus on the styles that speak to you. That way, you (and your interior designer, if that is in the plans) can work to create a home that’s entirely your own, complete with impressively modern decor as well as an array of history’s universally renowned iconic designs.

It’s difficult to single out well-recognized designs from what is a crowded pantheon of celebrated and seminal furnishings. Certain outstanding designs have such stellar quality they’ve endured for decades as bona fide cultural treasures, still being manufactured, in many cases, by the same venerable companies that shepherded them into being (think Herman Miller, Knoll and Fritz Hansen). Some works come immediately to mind as contenders for any short list. When you’re discussing the most popular mid-century modern chairs, for example, no tally would be complete without citing designs by Arne Jacobsen, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames and Hans Wegner.

Good furniture, be it authentic vintage furniture or new & custom furniture, allows you to comfortably sit and tell your favorite stories. Great furniture tells a story of its own.

On 1stDibs, find everything from sofas to serveware to credenzas to coffee tables, and every other type of antique, vintage and new furniture you need to create a singular space that you’ll be proud to call home.
