Three mounted scrolls by Rune Hagberg, Sweden, 1970s. Paper scrolls mounted on a board in a plexiglass box. Unique. Signed. H: 76 cm W: 81 cm D: 12 cm Rune Fredrik Hagberg was a renowned Swedish artist that took much of his inspiration from Zen Buddhism spirituality and Eastern Calligraphy. He is represented at, among many others, the Modern Museum and the Norrko¨ping Art Museum. Hagberg’s meditative informalism is placed between the concretism and expressionism of the 1950s, his art becoming simpler until he reduced it so far that only tightly closed picture reels...

Pop Art Style
Located in NEW YORK, NY
In the 1950s, a young man from Pittsburgh named Andy Warhol was earning a comfortable living as a commercial illustrator in New York City. But his ambitions went well beyond that; soon he was painting Coca-Cola bottles and filling a gallery with paintings of Campbell’s Soup cans. He certainly wasn’t the first to make a Pop work, but Warhol soon became a brand name himself, synonymous with the new art form that embodied everything youthful, subversive, bright and fresh. From the proto-supermodel Twiggy rocking false eyelashes and a Union Jack dress...

Aspen Style
Located in NEW YORK, NY
What began as a small mining camp during the Colorado, silver boom of the late 19th century has since become the preferred getaway of the world’s elite. Treasured for what’s above ground rather than below, Aspen, Colorado, has a storied history almost as dense as the directory of A-listers who have adopted the jewel of Pitkin County as their second home, or who have settled in its slopes indefinitely. From the “fortified compound” that was Hunter S. Thompson’s Owl Farm, to John Denver’s “Starwood in Aspen,” to the scores of financial titans who also call the mountain home, Aspen has long drawn an eclectic and wide-ranging crowd. With an introduction from long time resident Aerin Lauder, founder and creative director of Aerin, Aspen Style...

"Waterfall" Lacquered Coffee Table Designed by Fredrikson Stallard for Driade
Located in Brooklyn, NY
"Waterfall" is a white, gold or blue lacquered polyurethane Baydur iconic coffee table, designed by Fredrikson Stallard and manufactured by Driade. White lacquered version only is available in quick ship. Indoor use only. DIMENSIONS: D. 23.6", W. 85", H. 13.3" Even a coffee table can become a piece of art if it can transcend typological limitations. Fredrikson Stallard deal with the issue by the strength of the material to be bent and shaped. The result is a completely new form, marked by an important and expressionistic depression in the centre of the top. PATRIK FREDRIKSON and IAN STALLARD began their collaboration in 1995 and have since become internationally recognized as leading exponents of British avant-garde design. They are well known for their ability to translate their creativity into simple yet emotionally engaging fine artwork and furniture. Their cutting edge, conceptually rigorous work has been regularly discussed and praised in the design press and is sought after by discerning collectors and furniture producers. Their work has been acquired by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, twice by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the French National Art Collection, and shown at the Design Museum in London, MoMA and the Museum of Art and Design in New York. Their clients include some of the leading names in contemporary design including Swarovski, Chanel, Veuve Clicquot, Comme des Garcons, Dunhill, Remy Martin, The London Design Festival, Bernhardt Design, David Gill Galleries, Contrasts Gallery, Tools Gallery, Mitterand & Cramer, The Savoy Hotel, Soho & Tribeca Grand, Tarkett and Iittala. Fredrikson Stallard has exhibited widely including in London, Milan, Paris, Madrid, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Basel and Miami. Their work is given extensive coverage by press and print, featuring in books and publications such as The International design Yearbook, The Furniture Machine by Gareth Williams, Collecting Design in a Contemporary Market, 21st Century design by Marcus Fairs, The New York Times, Art & Auction, The London Times...

Large Art Glass Bowl by Michael Bang
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
A large art glass bowl by Michael Bang, of undulating circular, spiralling form, blown in clear glass with two swirls of opaque white and red pigment. Scandinavian, late 20th century. Michael Bang (1942-2013) Current And Advanced Glassmaking Art Michael Bang (1942-2013) was the son of Jacob E. Bang, Holmegaard's first designer. In the 1960s and 1970s, Michael Bang was a designer at the Odense Glass Factory, but moved with his family to Holmegaard in the 1980s when he joined the Holmegaard Glass Factory. Shop Unique Furniture on 1stDibs

When it comes to shopping for vintage, new and antique furniture — whether you’re finally moving into that long-coveted loft apartment, ranch-style home, townhouse or furnishing your weekend house on the lake — you should think of your home as a stage for the seating, tables, lighting, storage cabinets and other pieces that best match your personality.

Coziness, comfort and creating a welcoming space are among the important things to consider when buying furniture, whether that means seeking strict cohesion or rooms characterized by a mix-and-match assembly of varying shapes, colors and materials. And for those who now work from home, exercise, eat and relax within the same four walls every day, they’ll also want to think about flexibility and an innovative approach.

Have you built your dream kitchen?

Is your current living-room furniture all that it could be?

Does your toast-worthy bar or vintage bar cart exude equal parts class and cheeriness?

And importantly, is your home officebackyard or otherwise — a happy one, regardless of the design style you happen to gravitate toward?

Although mid-century modern, rustic, minimalist, Art Deco and contemporary looks remain popular, they aren’t the only styles available to design connoisseurs.

Furniture styles are nothing if not fluid, meaning what’s popular one year may not be the next. That’s why it’s crucial to not only pay attention to interior-design trends but also focus on the styles that speak to you. That way, you (and your interior designer, if that is in the plans) can work to create a home that’s entirely your own, complete with impressively modern decor as well as an array of history’s universally renowned iconic designs.

It’s difficult to single out well-recognized designs from what is a crowded pantheon of celebrated and seminal furnishings. Certain outstanding designs have such stellar quality they’ve endured for decades as bona fide cultural treasures, still being manufactured, in many cases, by the same venerable companies that shepherded them into being (think Herman Miller, Knoll and Fritz Hansen). Some works come immediately to mind as contenders for any short list. When you’re discussing the most popular mid-century modern chairs, for example, no tally would be complete without citing designs by Arne Jacobsen, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames and Hans Wegner.

Good furniture, be it authentic vintage furniture or new & custom furniture, allows you to comfortably sit and tell your favorite stories. Great furniture tells a story of its own.

On 1stDibs, find everything from sofas to serveware to credenzas to coffee tables, and every other type of antique, vintage and new furniture you need to create a singular space that you’ll be proud to call home.
