Minton Encaustic Neo-Medieval Old English Tile
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
An antique neo-medieval old English encaustic tile depicting a King, possibly Henry III, attributed to Minton & Co. This tile was commissioned in 1840-42 by L. N. Cottingham for Temple Church, London and possibly removed following WWII bomb damage. It was not until 1850 that Minton and Co. began stamping the reverse of their tiles. Though unstamped, there is a similar tile to this one in the British Museum attributed to some of Minton’s earliest works: “Minton & Co.’s first major commission was for the restoration of the Temple Church in 1840-42… The earliest Minton tiles are two-colour inlaid tiles characterised by random stabmarks (a device which aids drying found on the reverse) together with the yellow glaze covering the inlaid white of buff areas.” As is the nature of encaustic tiles, both the red background and yellow figure form the body of the tile, unlike other tiles where the design is painted onto clay. This may be why it has such excellent definition after more than 180 years, the figure of the King clear and vibrant against the red with minimal surface wear. A brilliant collector’s piece! Provenance: This antique encaustic tile...

A Large Japanese Porcelain Figure of a Guanyin
Located in New York, NY
Introducing a Magnificent Japanese Porcelain Figure of a Guanyin - A Monumental Expression of Serenity and Grace. Behold this majestic depiction of Guanyin, rendered in porcelain with remarkable skill and artistry. Standing almost waist-height, this monumental statue exudes a sense of tranquility and spiritual presence that captivates the beholder. The figure of Guanyin is beautifully stylized, featuring a high bun adorned with a draped head covering that adds an air of elegance to the composition. Dressed in traditional clothes, the statue showcases an underglaze red hand-painted robe gracefully layered over exquisitely detailed garments. Delicate blossoms, meticulously painted by skilled hands, artfully scatter across the fabric in a pleasing pattern, adding an enchanting touch of artistry to the ensemble. The masterful craftsmanship is evident in the realistic draping of the clothing, creating a breathtaking illusion of soft fabric that seems to defy the porcelain medium, the only reminder being its alluring shine. The Guanyin figure exudes a sense of serenity with a pleasant and peaceful smile, complemented by gently lowered eyelids and gracefully elongated ear lobes. As you gaze upon the statue, you'll notice a delicate attention to detail, allowing the toes to peek out from under the floor-length blue trimmed gown, that further enhances the intrigue of the figure. A beautiful red drop...

Located in Vienna, AT
Excellent Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Depiction of a bearded old man with angel wings, covered only with a cloth, sitting in the middle of a mountain of clouds, probably Chronos from Greek mythology, symbolizing the passage of life and reminding us that time flies, holding a long staff (usually with sickle) in his hand, surrounded by winged putti, representing activities on and with air: To the right of the old man a standing putto with waving cloth, embracing a peacock, the bird of paradise and symbol of heaven, and breathing into a tube forming a soap bubble, in the foreground wind is produced with the help of a bellows, to the left of and behind Chronos two putti with garlands of flowers and a little bird in their hands. The group is based on an earth pedestal with piled up clouds and gold rim. Meissen Large Allegorical Group 'The Fire' by M.V. Acier, Germany Around, 1850
Located in Vienna, AT
Excellent Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Depiction of the merely cloth-covered, bearded and crowned god Hephaestus (Roman: Vulcanus) seated centrally on a rock, holding a long-handled hammer beside him and looking off to the side, surrounded by winged putti representing activities from his trade: Patronizing the entire artistic spectrum of metalworking, including the production of jewelry, weapons, sacred-ritual and profane utilitarian objects, the one helping putto to his right is busy firing a cannon made of metal, to his left another putto is forging on an anvil with the help of a hammer and tongs, in front of him, at his feet are presented ornately crafted war ornaments such as a helmet and shield, at the back a putto holds small torches in both hands. The group is based on irregular rock base with gold rim.
