This rare and unusually shaped 1960s cocoon pendant light is in very good condition and given its age only shows very little sings of use.
The cocoon has a body diameter of about 56 cm and height of 15cm (total height incl cable: 80cm) and gives a beautiful diffused warm light. The beautiful pearl/silk patina is an indication the the lamp was in a NON SMOKING Environment.
Nota Bene: There are no tears or holes. Not uncommon for these cocoon lamps the frame has some minor rusty spots on some top points but barely visible (please refer to photos for details).
Often attributed and very close to the designs of Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. In fact this cocoon was manufactured in Germany by Goldkant Leuchten in the late 50's and early 60s . Designer Fritz Wauer...

Late nineteenth-century publications suggested that amateur scientists use chandelier prisms to try Newton’s experiment at home. Chandeliers — simple in form, inspired by candelabras and originally made of wood or iron — first made an appearance in early churches. For those wealthy enough to afford them for their homes in the medieval period, a chandelier's suspended lights likely exuded imminent danger, as lit candles served as the light source for fixtures of the era. Things have thankfully changed since then, and antique chandeliers and pendant lights are popular in many interiors today.
While gas lighting during the late 18th century represented an upgrade for chandeliers — and gas lamps would long inspire Danish architect and pioneering modernist lighting designer Poul Henningsen — it would eventually be replaced with the familiar electric lighting of today.
The key difference between a pendant light and a chandelier is that a pendant incorporates only a single bulb into its design. Don’t mistake this for simplicity, however.
