French Art Deco Opalescent Glass Table or Desk Lamp with Stylish Bison Sculpture
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and stylish bison sculpture lampby EDMOND ETLING. This beautiful and truly artistic Art Deco table lamp comes with the signature "Etling France" and model number. Edmond Laurent Etling (23 June 1878 – around 1940) was a French art dealer, gallery owner, designer and a manufacturer of high-quality decorative objects made of bronze, ceramics and art glass in the Art Deco style. His company La Societe Anonyme Edmond Etling, founded in Paris in 1909, manufactured decorative objects and commissioned sculptors and artists, including Georges Béal, Demétre Chiparus, Claire Colinet, Armand Godard, Geneviève Granger, Marcel Guillard, Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, Géza Hiecz, Fanny Rozet, and Lucille Sévin. Other artists that worked with Etling for casting their statuettes included Aurore Onu, Marcel Bouraine, Pierre Le Faguays, Raymonde Guerbe and André Vincent Becquerel. Etling is known for light blue opalescent objects such as plates and bowls, which were also produced in gray and frosted glass. Most items bore the cast signature "Etling France" followed by a model number related to the Choisy-le-Roi catalogue. In 1910, Etling was awarded the diplome d'honneur at Brussels International (1910). In 1923, he was awarded the Grand Prix in Paris. In 1940, Etling closed his shop due to World War II. Because Etling was of Jewish descent, he was sent to a Nazi concentration camp, where he died. This early 1900s, sculptural table lamp clearly has many typical bison features making it easy to tell from further away as well. The overal design and opalescent colors of this bison on a hand carved wooden base makes this work of lighting art an absolute joy to own and look at. And with the light switched on, this art glass table lamp creates a warm light that makes every room an even greater pleasure to be in. This is the ideal light for a (private) library or for a desk, but this bison sculpture beauty also makes a great gift. This work of art table lamp is rewired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage the world over and when purchased by an American client we will also attach an American power plug so it can be used and enjoyed upon arrival. Mind you, our price for this rare light includes perfect packing (in a custom made and strengthened box) and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum height x width x depth including wooden base: 7.7 x 9 x 4.8 inches. Height x width x depth of the glass bison...

Max Le Verrier, ‘Boubou’, French Art Deco Patinated Bronze Desk Lamp, Ca. 1920
Located in New York, NY
DETAILS Signed, original black & white marble base, period wiring and fittings. DIMENSIONS Height: 6.5 inches Width: 3.5 inches Depth: 5.5 inches ABOUT THE LAMP A charming and very funny monkey named Boubou, excited by some suspicious sounds, decided to shine a lantern and discover the source and origin. The sculptural interpretation of this scene with a simple plot by a wonderful French sculptor turns a seemingly small trivial table lamp into a real work of art - with such skill the author conveys its emotional state, a mixture of fright and curiosity! ABOUT THE ARTIST Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier (French, 1891 – 1973), known more commonly as Max Le Verrier, also known by the pseudonym Artus was a famous French sculptor. He was known for being a pioneer within the Parisian Art Deco movement, creating decorative art objects often made in bronze as well as historical sculptures. Max le Verrier was born on the in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, in 1891. His mother was Belgian and his father was a Parisian goldsmith and jeweler on Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris. His parents divorced when he was 7 years old. Le Verrier attended several boarding schools (Collège de Verneuil sur Avre) and was a brilliant student. He grew an interest for drawing and art during his education. However, his father thought that his future would be in farming, therefore he sent Max to study agriculture (St. Sever and La Réole) against Ma’s wishes. However, Max Le Verrier kept his liking for sculpture during his spare time lively. At the age of 16, he returned to Paris and did odd jobs to escape farm-work and to provide for himself. (His father emancipated him, and, as a result, he was left to fend for himself). In 1909, when he was 18, he left for England. As a foreigner, it was very difficult for him to find a job in London; refusing to come back to France and admitting defeat, he lived very difficult days. From an early age he showed great promise as an artist and sculptor; and after serving in the French army during World War I, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. During his studies in Switzerland he met fellow sculptors Pierre le Faguays and Marcel Bouraine, who became close friends and with whom he collaborated for much of his life. After completing his studies, le Verrier returned to France in 1919, and founded his own studio in Paris. It was at this time that he created his first popular sculpture, the famous 'Pelican' - which was the first of a long line of animal...

Tiffany glass refers to the many and varied types of glass developed and produced from 1878 to 1933 at the Tiffany Studios in New York, by Louis Comfort Tiffany and a team of other designers, including Clara Driscoll, Agnes F. Northrop and Frederick Wilson. In 1865, Tiffany traveled to Europe, and in London he visited the Victoria and Albert Museum, whose extensive collection of Roman and Syrian glass made a deep impression on him. He admired the coloration of medieval glass and was convinced that the quality of contemporary glass could be improved upon. In his own words, the "Rich tones are due in part to the use of pot metal full of impurities, and in part to the uneven thickness of the glass, but still more because the glass maker of that day abstained from the use of paint". Tiffany was an interior designer, and in 1878 his interest turned toward the creation of stained glass, when he opened his own studio and glass foundry because he was unable to find the types of glass that he desired in interior decoration. His inventiveness both as a designer of windows and as a producer of the material with which to create them was to become renowned. Tiffany wanted the glass itself to transmit texture and rich colors and he developed a type of glass he called "Favrile". The glass was manufactured at the Tiffany factory...
