1 Mid-Century Eames H Miller Fiberglass Arm Shell Chair Walnut Moderna Stool
Located in Pasadena, TX
Charles and Ray married in 1941 and moved to California where they continued their furniture design work with molding plywood. During the war they were commissioned by the Navy to produce molded plywood splints, stretchers and experimental glider shells. In 1946, Evans Products began producing the Eameses' molded plywood furniture. Their molded plywood chair was called "the chair of the century" by the influential architectural critic Esther McCoy. Soon production was taken over by Herman Miller, Inc .,who continues to produce the furniture in the United States to this day. Another company, Vitra International, manufactures the furniture in Europe. The Eameses continued to create new furniture designs into the 1970s. 1 (1) Herman Miller Eames Fiberglass Arm Shell on Walnut Swivel Bar Stool...

Set Six ‘Trieste’ Dining Chairs by Guglielmo Ulrich
Located in Chicago, IL
Celebrate the ingenuity of Modernist Italian design with this exceptionally rare set of six dining chairs from the "Trieste" series, masterfully crafted by Guglielmo Ulrich in 1961. Manufactured by Saffa, Italy, these exquisite chairs stand as testament to Ulrich's design genius, embodying an innovative fusion of form, function, and craftsmanship. Named after the first prize it won at the Fiera di Trieste in 1961, the "Trieste" chair showcases its innovative and lightweight construction, paralleling Gio Ponti's famed Superleggera chair. It demonstrates a revolutionary use of lightweight wood and intricate craftsmanship, with solid mahogany construction and unique open dovetail joins in lamellar wood that effortlessly connects the legs and backrest together without the use of screws. These split joinery details, visible at each joint, add a unique design element, making each chair a statement piece. These chairs were produced in limited quantities, further enhancing their exclusivity and appeal to collectors and design enthusiasts alike. The set of six dining armchairs are in very good vintage condition, having been carefully refinished / restored by the previous owner. Each chair is upholstered with plush velvet - four in a soft moss green, and two in a dark emerald green, providing a stylish touch of color. The wrapped seats can be easily reupholstered, giving you the opportunity to customize the chairs to your taste! As light as they are luxurious, these "Trieste" chairs rival Gio Ponti's Supperleggera in their innovative use of lightweight materials, without compromising on comfort or stability. Guglielmo Ulrich (1904 - 1977), born into a noble Danish family in Milan, was a seminal figure in Italian design. His works were inspired by 18th and 19th century designs yet reflected a profound understanding of material and simplicity in form and function. His penchant for rare and exquisite materials, combined with an unerring eye...

Pair Of Italian Handcrafted Armchairs in Wood And Upholstered With Guild Velvet
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and refined pair of Italian armchairs; the strong frame is made of wood, the legs are painted black, and the seat is large, wide, and comfortable also thanks to the particular shape of the two large armrests; their design is energetic and compact. They were made between 1960 and1965 between Meda and Mariano Comense in Brianza (a prolific industrial and artisan area of Lombardy Italy) where there is a high production of designer furniture made with great craftsmanship. The armchairs have been restored and we have also upholstered them with Designer Guild's iconic and sophisticated velvet with a "Janneret" pattern with geometric cut and interlocking lines. One of the company's most popular fabrics. (see original Guild set photo). The entire work was handcrafted with skill and precision by an old Master craftsman from Prato (Italy). We would like to remind you that the city of Prato is considered the largest textile center in the world, its craftsmen and companies, highly specialized, are a benchmark for creativity, quality, and excellence. Color and classic reinvented and reinterpreted in a current key. Striking combinations, big flowers, elegant design. Fabrics and wallpapers of great decorative impact, color, and classic reinvented and reinterpreted in a current key. Striking combinations, big flowers, elegant design. Fabrics and wallpapers of great decorative impact, but also easy and always up-to-date solutions. This, and more, is the Designers Guild. Unique Chairs, Sofas and Other Seating for Sale on 1stDibs

With entire areas of our homes reserved for “sitting rooms,” the value of quality antique and vintage seating cannot be overstated.

Fortunately, the design of side chairs, armchairs and other lounge furniture — since what were, quite literally, the early perches of our ancestors — has evolved considerably.

Among the earliest standard seating furniture were stools. Egyptian stools, for example, designed for one person with no seat back, were x-shaped and typically folded to be tucked away. These rudimentary chairs informed the design of Greek and Roman stools, all of which were a long way from Sori Yanagi's Butterfly stool or Alvar Aalto's Stool 60. In the 18th century and earlier, seats with backs and armrests were largely reserved for high nobility.

The seating of today is more inclusive but the style and placement of chairs can still make a statement. Antique desk chairs and armchairs designed in the style of Louis XV, which eventually included painted furniture and were often made of rare woods, feature prominently curved legs as well as Chinese themes and varied ornaments. Much like the thrones of fairy tales and the regency, elegant lounges crafted in the Louis XV style convey wealth and prestige. In the kitchen, the dining chair placed at the head of the table is typically reserved for the head of the household or a revered guest.

Of course, with luxurious vintage or antique furnishings, every chair can seem like the best seat in the house. Whether your preference is stretching out on a plush sofa, such as the Serpentine, designed by Vladimir Kagan, or cozying up in a vintage wingback chair, there is likely to be a comfy classic or contemporary gem for you on 1stDibs.

With respect to the latest obsessions in design, cane seating has been cropping up everywhere, from sleek armchairs to lounge chairs, while bouclé fabric, a staple of modern furniture design, can be seen in mid-century modern, Scandinavian modern and Hollywood Regency furniture styles.

Admirers of the sophisticated craftsmanship and dark woods frequently associated with mid-century modern seating can find timeless furnishings in our expansive collection of lounge chairs, dining chairs and other items — whether they’re vintage editions or alluring official reproductions of iconic designs from the likes of Hans Wegner or from Charles and Ray Eames. Shop our inventory of Egg chairs, designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen, the Florence Knoll lounge chair and more.

No matter your style, the collection of unique chairs, sofas and other seating on 1stDibs is surely worthy of a standing ovation.
