Spillino da giacca dinosauro in oro 18Kt diamanti neri e perla Tahiti keshi
Located in Bussolengo, Verona

Black Tahitian Pearl Dutch DroogDesign 1998 Unique ThirdNipple GoldDisk Brooch
Located in Chicago, IL
In the 1990s when the Dutch collective Droog introduced international leaders of late 20th-Century functional art such as Ron Arad, Marcel Wanders, Jurgen Bey, Hella Jongerius, and Tejo Remy, the Netherlands-based brand was one of the most successful producers of conceptual design. The collaboration was co-founded in 1993 in Amsterdam by the jewelry and product designer Gijs Bakker (b. 1942), who commissioned his protege French artist Frederic Braham in 1998 to create this one-of-a-kind brooch for his young Droog-represented jewelry line "Chi ha paura...?". The Italian phrase means "who is afraid of?". This natural satin-lustre South Sea black-Tahitian 15 x 10 mm baroque thick-nacred pearl, which is bezel-set in oxidized sterling on a sharp silver stud for push-back fastening as a lapel or tie pin, is surrounded by a removable textured gold disk brooch with the Chiapaura maker's mark, artist's signature, abbreviated year and assay symbol. Notably, while farmed pearls from this French-Polynesian region are scarce, it is rarer to find one over 12mm. This dark gray one is also exceptional for its desirable secondary tone of peacock green with minimal surface imperfections. From normal use, the unseen back of the disk is missing chips of ecru enamel where it contacts the fastening knob. This reveals that the disk is solid gold. Like other functional conceptual design represented by Droog, the brooch is more than a beautiful piece of fine jewelry featuring multiple contrasting elements, as it could be a provocative "third nipple" if worn on a tie or scarf. Given the Dutch origin of the brand, we recall the famous 15th-Century oil-painting by Johannes Vermeer, known as "Girl with a Pearl Earring". Who is afraid of girl or boy with a third nipple? We acquired this brooch from a jewelry collector who had purchased it from the Italian gallery...

Karl LAGERFELD, Large vintage BROOCH, signed
Located in SAINT-CLOUD, FR
Magnificent large BROOCH, vintage, by Karl LAGERFELD, signed, diameter 5.7 cm, weight 37 g, very good state. Born in Hamburg, Karl Lagerfeld settled in Paris in 1954. His design of a coat won him the International Wool Secretariat and allowed him to work for the famous couturier Pierre Balmain. He then became the designer for Jean Patou. Because of his ability to revive and reimagine brands that had stagnated, in 1984 Lagerfeld was given the reins of Chanel. Lagerfeld's collections for Chanel, in particular, testify to his talent for synthesizing the old and the new. From Watteau (spring-summer 1985 couture) and Serge Roche (spring-summer 1990 ready-to-wear) to hip-hop fly girls (fall-winter 1991 ready-to-wear), surfers (ready-to-wear Spring-Summer 2003) and Ancient Egypt (Pre-Fall 2019), Lagerfeld drew inspiration from each season to redesign Chanel signatures. FR: Magnifique grande BROCHE, vintage, par Karl LAGERFELD, signée, diamètre 5,7 cm, poids 37 g, très bon état. Né à Hambourg, Karl Lagerfeld a posé ses valises à Paris en 1954. JACQUES GAUTIER, magnificent old brooch, vintage from the 60s, signed
Located in SAINT-CLOUD, FR
Magnificent old BROOCH, 60s vintage, by famous light craftsman JACQUES GAUTIER, signed, sold with its box, dimensions 4.8 x 4.8 cm, weight 45 g, very good condition, can be cleaned (on request) to regain its shine. For more than fifty years, this multi-talented artist has mainly dedicated the expression of his art to the beauty of women. Acclaimed in 1955 for his black and white geometries created for Christian Dior or Nina Ricci, he is presented as a Dali avant-garde. In 1966, he translated the Optical Art movement into jewelry. The theme of the square in hammered silver metal encrusted with another square of enamel represents one of the signatures of his style. The “Charme” translucent enamel oval bead necklace, created for Christian Dior, the “Capucine”, “Vénus”, “Marguerite” and “Violetta” models, and the dog collars with tassels, are among its emblematic models. Antique and Vintage Brooches

Antique and vintage brooches, which are decorative jewels traditionally pinned to garments and used to fasten pieces of clothing together where needed, have seen increasing popularity in recent years.

Given their long history, brooches have expectedly taken on a variety of different shapes and forms over time, with jewelers turning to assorted methods of ornamentation for these accessories, including enameling and the integration of pearls and gemstones.

Cameo brooches that originated during the Victorian age are characterized by a shell carved in raised relief that feature portraits of a woman’s profile, while 19th-century micromosaic brooches, comprising innumerable individually placed glass fragments, sometimes feature miniature depictions of a pastoral scene in daily Roman life.

At one time, brooches were symbols of wealth, made primarily from the finest metals and showcasing exquisite precious gemstones. Today, these jewels are inclusive and universal, and you don’t have to travel very far to find an admirer of brooches. They can be richly geometric in form, such as the ornate diamond pins dating from the Art Deco era, or designer-specific, such as the celebrated naturalistic works created by Tiffany & Co., the milk glass and gold confections crafted by Trifari or handmade vintage Chanel brooches of silk or laminated sheer fabric.

Brooches are versatile and adaptable. These decorative accessories can be worn in your hair, on hats, scarves and on the lower point of V-neck clothing. Pin a dazzling brooch to the lapel of your blazer-and-tee combo or add a cluster of smaller pins to your overcoat. And while brooches have their place in “mourning jewelry,” in that a mourning brooch is representative of your connection to a lost loved one, they’re widely seen as romantic and symbolic of love, so much so that a hardcore brooch enthusiast might advocate for brooches to be worn over the heart.

Today, find a wide variety of antique and vintage brooches on 1stDibs, including gold brooches, sapphire brooches and more.
