London Town - Cara in the streets of 1920s London, fine art photography, 2023
Located in Vienna, AT
All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. David Yarrow is a British fine art photographer and one of the most spectacular and best-selling nature photographers in the world. In his large-format monochrome prints, he captures the beauty of the planet like no other. His works are populated by majestic lions, sleek panthers, and free-roaming buffaloes. Trumped only by the female beauties Yarrow places next to them, he captures unique moments of human-animal interaction. While highlighting the untamed side of supermodels such as Cara Delevingne or Cindy Crawford, Yarrow portrays the wild beasts in the most human way possible. This photograph travels to Londons past and it's gritty streets of the 1920s. This roaring twenties in the UK saw material advances in technology and science, but it will also be remembered as a decade when women found equality and their sexuality was celebrated. It was an era where grit and glamour forged an unlikely alchemy. The historic dockyards of Chatham offer a strong visual canvas on which to tell stories and are contrasted by Cara Delevignes glamorous figure in a flowing white and silver gown...

Located in Chicago, IL
Oil Marathon, Texas - 2023 Large 56” x 86” Unframed 71” x 101” Framed Standard 37” x 57” Unframed 52” x 72” Framed “Despite our acute awareness of the environmental harm of carbon omissions, there is something incongruously appealing about the early days of the oil industry. It is difficult to articulate the reason for the appeal, but perhaps it’s because we warm to pioneers and people who risk it all to follow their dream. Daniel Yergin’s 1992 Pulitzer winning book - The Prize - told the story of the petroleum industry from 1850 to 1990 and became so acclaimed that it was translated into 14 languages. In the 900-page classic there was enough insight to satisfy the scholar. But it was his narratives on the colourful personalities in the history of oil that captured the interest of the public. The further back in time, the more these protagonists played to the lore of early prospectors. The early days of oil were a treasure trove for storytellers. Film makers such as Paul Anderson with There will be Blood and now Martin Scorsese with the highly anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon homed in on the nascent US oil production...

Located in New York City, NY
Series: PURPLE All available sizes and editions: 40" x 40" editions of 18 50" x 50" editions of 7 60" x 60" editions of 3 72" x 72" editions of 1 Archival Pigment Print on Fine Art Baryta paper Mounted and Framed Guido Argentini is an Italian photographer, known for his highly stylized and erotic images of the body, both male and female. In Argentini's striking photography, people are turned into living shiny sculptures, made of silver and gold, a daring and innovative study of the human body and its range of movement. Color and texture radically influence how we perceive shapes. While looking for an innovative approach at a 1995 Miami photo shoot, photographic master Guido Argentini was moved to coat a model in silver makeup. The result was as beautiful as it was intriguing--the subtle greyish tones highlighted angles and surfaces in a way that was other-worldly. Inspired by the results, Argentini created a whole series of silver-hued models. In so doing, he uncovered a fresh perspective for nude photography. Evoking the luminous polished planes of Brancusi and the verve of Degas' ballet sketches, these photographs endow the human body with both the solidity of sculpture and the vivid energy of dance. Using geometrical props Guido Argentini created a contrast between the human body and the archetypal forms of geometry: triangles, circles, and squares. “I always felt that photography was too close to reality. Painting and sculpting allow you to be more abstract when working with the human figure. My love for dance and for sculpture inspired this series of photographs. The watercolors of Rodin, sketches of dancers in very erotic and dynamic positions and the polished abstract bronzes of Brancusi were my strongest source of inspiration. In the pictures of ARGENTUM, the skin, covered with silver paint, becomes an even, shiny surface and the human figure becomes more abstract. To each image I gave a title, the name of a god or a goddess from different cults and religions, Greek, Egyptian, Celtic and many more. ARGENTUM is, once again, a tribute to women. The monotheistic religions took away the important role and all the power that women had in the antique cults. Goddesses, symbols of women, the creators of Life, have been banished completely from any current monotheistic religion. Giving to the women in my photographs these forgotten names of goddesses I’m giving a tribute to their beauty as well as to their spirituality. In this historical moment we are beginning to feel that is time to restore the values of THE SACRED FEMININE. The world has been controlled by male values for a long time. This has brought violence, war and the cult of materialism to humanity. The only way to save ourselves is to restore peace and love and create a new world where spirituality will become the real value. I decided to include a few pages of text. These are antique texts...

HARMONIA by Guido Argentini GOLD series

Series: GOLD All available sizes and editions: 40" x 40" editions of 18 50" x 50" editions of 7 60" x 60" editions of 3 72" x 72" editions of 1 Archival Pigment Print on Fine Art Baryta paper Mounted and Framed Guido Argentini is an Italian photographer, known for his highly stylized and erotic images of the body, both male and female. Photography, Drawings, Prints, Sculptures and Paintings for Sale

Whether growing your current fine art collection or taking the first steps on that journey, you will find an extensive range of original photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and more on 1stDibs.

Visual art is among the oldest forms of expression, and it has been evolving for centuries. Beautiful objects can provide a window to the past or insight into our current time. Art collecting enhances daily life through the presence of meaningful work. It displays an appreciation for culture, whether a print by Elizabeth Catlett channeling social change or a narrative quilt by Faith Ringgold.

Contemporary art has lured more initiates to collecting than almost any other category, with notable artists including Yayoi Kusama, Marc Chagall, Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Navigating the waiting lists for the next Marlene Dumas, Jeff Koons or Jasper Johns has become competitive.

When you’re living with art, particularly as people more often work from home and enjoy their spaces, it’s important to choose art that resonates with you. While the richness of art with its many movements, styles and histories can be overwhelming, the key is to identify what is appealing and inspiring. Artwork can play with the surrounding color of a room, creating a layered approach. The dynamic shapes and sizes of sculptures can set different moods, such as a bronze by Miguel Guía on a mantel or an Alexander Calder mobile suspended over a table. A wall of art can evoke emotions in an interior while showing off your tastes and interests. A salon-style wall mixing eclectic pieces like landscape paintings with charcoal drawings is a unique way to transform a space and show off a collection.

For art meditating on the subconscious, investigate Surrealists like Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí. Explore Pop art and its leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Rosalyn Drexler and Keith Haring for bright and bold colors. Not only did these artists question art itself, but also how we perceive society. Similarly, 20th-century photography and abstract painting reconsidered the intent of art.

Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner and Color Field artists including Sam Gilliam broke from conventional ideas of painting, while Op artists such as Yaacov Agam embraced visual trickery and kinetic movement. Novel visuals are also integral to contemporary work influenced by street art, such as sculptures and prints by KAWS.

Realist portraiture is a global tradition reflecting on what makes us human. This is reflected in the work of Slim Aarons, an American photographer whose images are at once candid and polished and appeared in Holiday magazine and elsewhere. Innovative artists Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall are now offering new perspectives on the form.

Collecting art is a rewarding, lifelong pursuit that can help connect you with the creative ways historic, modern and contemporary artists have engaged with the world. For more tips on piecing together an art collection, see our guide to buying and displaying art.
