Original oil painting by Ernest Lawson (1873-1939) of a landscape with hills and wildflowers executed in the artist's signature "crushed jewel" style. Presented in a custom hand-carved gold leaf frame, outer dimensions measure 11 ½ x 12 ¼ x 1 ½ inches. Image size is 5 ½ x 6 ½ inches. Ernest Lawson (1873 San Francisco, CA-1939 Miami, FL) Studied Art Students League with John H. Twachtman, 1890; San Carlos Art School in Mexico; Academie Julian in Paris under Laurens and Constant, 1893-1894; and Cos Cob, CT under John H. Twachtman and J. Alden Weir, 1894. Taught briefly in Lyme, CT, then Broadmoor Art. Academy 1927-30 (summers) and Kansas City Art Institute. Member: National Academy of Design, National Institute of Arts and Letters, National Arts Club, Century Association, American Society of Painters, Sculptors and Gravers. Exhibitions: Salon Des Artistes Francais, 1897; St. Louis Exhibition, 1904 (medal); Pennsylvania Academy, 1907 (medal); Panama-Pacific Exposition, San Francisco, 1915 (gold medal); Corcoran Gallery, 1916 (medal); National Academy of Design, 1921, 1930 (gold medals). Represented: Art Institute of Chicago, Whitney Museum of American Art, Corcoran Gallery, National Museum of Art, National Gallery of Canada, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Anschutz Collection and many others.
