A masterpiece of British Newlyn School oil painting by John White. It depicts two sisters overlooking the sea on a hilltop. Painted at Sennen, the girls look out over the sea towards Cape Cornwall and the Brison Rocks. Painted in 1883 this oil on canvas is a stunning reminder of White's talents. Exhibited possibly London, The Royal Academy 1883 No 717 "Sunshine" or at The Royal Society of British Artists 1883 No 45 "Over the Sea". Great composition, colouring and impasto. This stunning painting wouldnt look out of place in Penlee gallery in Penzance or the Truro museum.

Provenance. UK collection. Exhibited possibly London, The Royal Academy 1883 No 717 "Sunshine" or The Royal Society of British Artists 1883 -- No 45 "Over the Sea".
John White RBA RI 1851-1933. Landscape, marine, portrait & rustic genre painter. He was educated in Australia, & studied at Royal Scottish Academy. Moved to Devon c.1890. He exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of Painters in Oil (106 paintings), Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters (190 paintings), Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists & extensively elsewhere.
