"Bouquet (sweet pea, blue, magenta)" is a unique collagraph print on Rives BFK paper from a series published by Manneken Press in 2019. This is a bleed print with the edges extending to the edges of the paper. In collagraph printmaking the artist adds to the plate to create the image rather than carving into it, as in relief printing, or etching into it, as in intaglio printing. Howe painted the image of a bouquet of flowers in a vase with sweeping, fluid brushstrokes strokes, directly onto the plate, using a thick gel medium. Carborundum grit was added to create the texture necessary to hold the ink. Different colors were used for each impression printed from the plate, creating a series of unique but related prints.
Like all of Howe's works, her monotypes have a strong, vibrant, spontaneous energy and a sensuous sensibility. Referencing her personal garden located in the Hudson Valley, flowers dissolve into abstract flurries of brush marks and fields of commingled colors. The artist balances abstraction with representation in gestural prints which are process-based while retaining an affinity with the observed subject matter. Catherine Howe is widely admired for her painterly works that reference both the baroque and nature. Drawing from nature, Howe’s paintings is influenced by New York School abstraction, as well as rococo and 17th century Dutch still life paintings.

Robert Motherwell was born January 24, 1915, in Aberdeen, Washington. He was awarded a fellowship to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles at age 11, and in 1932 studied painting briefly at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Motherwell received a B.A. from Stanford University in 1937 and enrolled for graduate work later that year in the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Lee Conklin is an artist best known for his psychedelic posters from the late 1960s and particularly for his iconic cover of Santana's first album.
At the time, photography was the basis of advertising, while psychedelic graphics were done by hand and were mostly based on an illustration concept.
The posters of this movement claim a new aesthetic: the flashy and warm colors, the shapes and moving typography and the density of the motif that invades the space translate the psychedelic vision, often associated with the taking of substances such as LSD.
The psychedelic experience was evident in Ten Years After and Country Weather entangled in the branches of the island tree, but this was not a classic tree-of-life image. Fillmore West hung from the branches on spider web threads.

Biography:
Frank Stella (1936-) is an American artist best known for his use of geometric patterns and shapes in creating both paintings and sculptures. Arguably one of the most influential living American artists, Stella’s works utilize the formal properties of shape, color, and composition to explore non-literary narratives, as seen in his work Harrar II (1967) from the Protractor series. “Abstraction didn't have to be limited to a kind of rectilinear geometry or even a simple curve geometry. It could have a geometry that had a narrative impact. In other words, you could tell a story with the shapes,” he explained. “It wouldn't be a literal story, but the shapes and the interaction of the shapes and colors would give you a narrative sense. You could have a sense of an abstract piece flowing along and being part of an action or activity.” Born on May 12, 1936 in Malden, MA, Stella went on to study history at Princeton University before moving to New York in 1958. Fine Art Prints for Sale — Animal Prints, Abstract Prints, Nude Prints and Other Prints
Decorating with fine art prints — whether they’re figurative prints, abstract prints or another variety — has always been a practical way of bringing a space to life as well as bringing works by an artist you love into your home.
Pursued in the 1960s and ’70s, largely by Pop artists drawn to its associations with mass production, advertising, packaging and seriality, as well as those challenging the primacy of the Abstract Expressionist brushstroke, printmaking was embraced in the 1980s by painters and conceptual artists ranging from David Salle and Elizabeth Murray to Adrian Piper and Sherrie Levine.
Printmaking is the transfer of an image from one surface to another. An artist takes a material like stone, metal, wood or wax, carves, incises, draws or otherwise marks it with an image, inks or paints it and then transfers the image to a piece of paper or other material.
Fine art prints are frequently confused with their more commercial counterparts. After all, our closest connection to the printed image is through mass-produced newspapers, magazines and books, and many people don’t realize that even though prints are editions, they start with an original image created by an artist with the intent of reproducing it in a small batch. Fine art prints are created in strictly limited editions — 20 or 30 or maybe 50 — and are always based on an image created specifically to be made into an edition.
Many people think of revered Dutch artist Rembrandt as a painter but may not know that he was a printmaker as well. His prints have been preserved in time along with the work of other celebrated printmakers such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol. These fine art prints are still highly sought after by collectors.
“It’s another tool in the artist’s toolbox, just like painting or sculpture or anything else that an artist uses in the service of mark making or expressing him- or herself,” says International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) vice president Betsy Senior, of New York’s Betsy Senior Fine Art, Inc.
Because artist’s editions tend to be more affordable and available than his or her unique works, they’re more accessible and can be a great opportunity to bring a variety of colors, textures and shapes into a space.
For tight corners, select small fine art prints as opposed to the oversized bold piece you’ll hang as a focal point in the dining area. But be careful not to choose something that is too big for your space. And feel free to lean into it if need be — not every work needs picture-hanging hooks. Leaning a larger fine art print against the wall behind a bookcase can add a stylish installation-type dynamic to your living room. (Read more about how to arrange wall art here.)
