Fornasetti Egocentrismo Porcelain Geometric Op Art Plates, Six Plates
Located in Downingtown, PA
Fornasetti Egocentrismo Porcelain Geometric Op Art Plates, Six Plates 1990s The Piero Fornasetti six circular plates in black and white have geometric op-art patterns named " Egocentrismo". They are numbered 1,2,2,3,4 and 5. Dimensions: 10 1/4 inches Diameter x 1 inch high (26cm diameter). Mark: Marks and inscriptions: A hand holding a brush dipped in paint and 'EGOCENTRISMO'/ 'FORNASETTI - MILANO, MADE IN ITALY' over a green back stamp- Eschenbach below a crown and below Bavaria Germany and three stars- all in underglaze green. Condition. Two with some rubbing. One of the most interesting elements of Fornasetti's practice is his aesthetic dedication to figuration and fantasy. What makes the set of "Egocentrismo" so special is that the pattern is entirely abstract! A true anomaly from Fornasetti's massive body of work, this motif reminds us how experimental and creative he was. Clearly influenced by both historical decorative motifs, Op art and Italian design. (For example Egocentrismo #4 is a variation of a pattern often used by Gio Ponti) Reference: Fornasetti: The Complete Universe, page 617, # 172-173. Originally a set of six plates named Egcentrismo (Egocentralism). Example in V & A, London (Museum # C.66-1985) "Hard paste porcelain plate, without edge rim but with foot rim. Black printed decoration in 'op-art' style; view down a chequer board cylinder with a black circle at the centre. Place of Origin: Milan, Italy (designed) Date: 1950-1960 (designed) Artist/maker: Fornasetti, Piero, born 1913 - died 1988...

Table Cammei Blue on Sponged Brown, Column Base, Vintage
Located in MILANO, IT
A Fornasetti table is the perfect synthesis of the artist's vision: a perfect balance of functional design and visionary illustrations that bring new meaning to a common object. Like all Fornasetti pieces of furniture, it is handcrafted using original artisan techniques. This table is silk-screened by hand, hand painted and covered with a smooth lacquer. Cammei decoration is inspired by one of the collections of Piero Fornasetti. This decoration combines Piero's interests about history, collecting and classic culture. The atelier often uses this decoration for its most popular pieces: from screens to ashtrays, from lamps to trays, plates and paper baskets This table is published on several books among which Piero Fornasetti. Piero Fornasetti Complete Set of Eight Ceramic Coasters, Italian Opera
Located in Downingtown, PA
Piero Fornasetti Complete Set of Eight Ceramic Coasters, Il Mondo Alla Rovecia Pattern, (“The topsy-turvy world”), After opera by Antonio Salieri, 1950-60s The set of whimsical pottery barware pottery coasters represent different scenes from an Opera, Il Mondo Alla Rovecia with the roles of each character reversed. There is the bottom section of the gold cardboard box. Dimensions: 4 1/8 inches diameter x 1 1/8 inches high (10.48cm diameter) With Antonio Salieri’s star on the wane, Il mondo alla rovescia (“The topsy-turvy world”) was coolly received by the Viennese in January 1795 and quickly fell into near-oblivion for over two centuries. It is an amusing comedy from an experienced master of opera buffa. The mildly risqué action is set on a mythical island where women, Amazon-like, rule the roost and men are reduced to drooling subservience. The status quo is challenged with the arrival of two shipwrecked aristocrats, a Count and a Marquise, and a European vessel intent on their rescue – although, in keeping with contemporary taste. F Murray...

Shop Unique Furniture on 1stDibs

When it comes to shopping for vintage, new and antique furniture — whether you’re finally moving into that long-coveted loft apartment, ranch-style home, townhouse or furnishing your weekend house on the lake — you should think of your home as a stage for the seating, tables, lighting, storage cabinets and other pieces that best match your personality.

Coziness, comfort and creating a welcoming space are among the important things to consider when buying furniture, whether that means seeking strict cohesion or rooms characterized by a mix-and-match assembly of varying shapes, colors and materials. And for those who now work from home, exercise, eat and relax within the same four walls every day, they’ll also want to think about flexibility and an innovative approach.

Have you built your dream kitchen?

Is your current living-room furniture all that it could be?

Does your toast-worthy bar or vintage bar cart exude equal parts class and cheeriness?

And importantly, is your home officebackyard or otherwise — a happy one, regardless of the design style you happen to gravitate toward?

Although mid-century modern, rustic, minimalist, Art Deco and contemporary looks remain popular, they aren’t the only styles available to design connoisseurs.

Furniture styles are nothing if not fluid, meaning what’s popular one year may not be the next. That’s why it’s crucial to not only pay attention to interior-design trends but also focus on the styles that speak to you. That way, you (and your interior designer, if that is in the plans) can work to create a home that’s entirely your own, complete with impressively modern decor as well as an array of history’s universally renowned iconic designs.

It’s difficult to single out well-recognized designs from what is a crowded pantheon of celebrated and seminal furnishings. Certain outstanding designs have such stellar quality they’ve endured for decades as bona fide cultural treasures, still being manufactured, in many cases, by the same venerable companies that shepherded them into being (think Herman Miller, Knoll and Fritz Hansen). Some works come immediately to mind as contenders for any short list. When you’re discussing the most popular mid-century modern chairs, for example, no tally would be complete without citing designs by Arne Jacobsen, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames and Hans Wegner.

Good furniture, be it authentic vintage furniture or new & custom furniture, allows you to comfortably sit and tell your favorite stories. Great furniture tells a story of its own.

On 1stDibs, find everything from sofas to serveware to credenzas to coffee tables, and every other type of antique, vintage and new furniture you need to create a singular space that you’ll be proud to call home.
