Candelabro
Located in Sant'agata De' Goti, BN
In 2020 MADE IN EDIT invites Patricia Urquiola to visit the Istituto a Indirizzo Raro Caselli Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte inside the Real Bosco, discovering its ancient tradition and the cloister where the school's didactic garden was originally located. The students of ceramic art have always used botanical references, taking them directly from plants, which are a primary source of inspiration and exercise. Hence the idea of "greening" this tradition: on one hand by reinventing a new botany of our time and on the other hand by thinking of providing the school with new plants for teaching. Thus the collection "Hybrida" for MADE IN EDIT was born: objects and centerpieces that bring an ancient model...

Young in Connecticut as a "stationery and fancy goods emporium," with the help of Charles Tiffany's father who financed the store for only $1,000 with profits from a cotton mill. Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Chrysanthemum Gravy Ladle
Located in New York, NY
Tiffany & Co. sterling silver gravy ladle in the celebrated Chrysanthemum pattern, beautifully adorned with chrysanthemum flowers on both sides, measuring 7'' in length, and bearing hallmarks as shown. Designed by Charles Grosjean and released in 1880, Chrysanthemum pattern was discontinued in 1934, but, due to popular demand, Tiffany & Company reintroduced the pattern and offered it until 1955. Tiffany's luxurious Chrysanthemum silver was designed in 1880. With its flowing curves, swirling vegetation, meandering tendrils and exotic blossoming plants, Chrysanthemum is characteristic of "The Tiffany Style" or "Art Nouveau" as that style is now more commonly known. The rich and graceful flowering motifs of Chrysanthemum were undoubtedly influenced by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The legendary Tiffany brand was founded in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in Connecticut as a "stationery and fancy goods emporium," with the help of Charles Tiffany's father who financed the store for only $1,000 with profits from a cotton mill. Asian Inspired Sengu Dining Coffee Table by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina
Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Sengu Coffee Table designed by Patricia Urquiola. Manufactured by Cassina (Italy). AN ASIAN INVITATION Asian-inspired, this design coffee table by Patricia Urquiola is a domestic architecture enhanced by the layering of different materials. The system of primary and secondary oval beams that supports the top of this table, ideal for a modern living room, draws upon the ritual reconstruction of Japanese shrines to define an elegant piece of furniture with Far-Eastern fascination. Supported by a solid wood base, the rectangular or round top is available in extra-clear glass, smoked glass or marble. BASE In solid wood: Canaletto walnut, natural oak or oak stained black. TOP Transparent extra-clear or smoked glass, or marble: white Carrara, Grigio Carnico, Verde Alpi, Rosso Levanto, Calacatta Gold, or Nero Marquina, with matt finish. Inspired by Asian influences ‒ a theme that often recurs in the Cassina collections ‒ and especially by the ritual reconstruction of Japanese shrines through the use of different materials, like the other pieces in the Sengu family, the Sengu Coffee Table, designed by Patricia Urquiola, is envisioned as an exquisitely layered and sophisticated home architecture. The base, crafted with a grid of primary and secondary oval solid wood beams, echoes the shapes found in the Sengu Sofa...

Shop Unique Furniture on 1stDibs

When it comes to shopping for vintage, new and antique furniture — whether you’re finally moving into that long-coveted loft apartment, ranch-style home, townhouse or furnishing your weekend house on the lake — you should think of your home as a stage for the seating, tables, lighting, storage cabinets and other pieces that best match your personality.

Coziness, comfort and creating a welcoming space are among the important things to consider when buying furniture, whether that means seeking strict cohesion or rooms characterized by a mix-and-match assembly of varying shapes, colors and materials. And for those who now work from home, exercise, eat and relax within the same four walls every day, they’ll also want to think about flexibility and an innovative approach.

Have you built your dream kitchen?

Is your current living-room furniture all that it could be?

Does your toast-worthy bar or vintage bar cart exude equal parts class and cheeriness?

And importantly, is your home officebackyard or otherwise — a happy one, regardless of the design style you happen to gravitate toward?

Although mid-century modern, rustic, minimalist, Art Deco and contemporary looks remain popular, they aren’t the only styles available to design connoisseurs.

Furniture styles are nothing if not fluid, meaning what’s popular one year may not be the next. That’s why it’s crucial to not only pay attention to interior-design trends but also focus on the styles that speak to you. That way, you (and your interior designer, if that is in the plans) can work to create a home that’s entirely your own, complete with impressively modern decor as well as an array of history’s universally renowned iconic designs.

It’s difficult to single out well-recognized designs from what is a crowded pantheon of celebrated and seminal furnishings. Certain outstanding designs have such stellar quality they’ve endured for decades as bona fide cultural treasures, still being manufactured, in many cases, by the same venerable companies that shepherded them into being (think Herman Miller, Knoll and Fritz Hansen). Some works come immediately to mind as contenders for any short list. When you’re discussing the most popular mid-century modern chairs, for example, no tally would be complete without citing designs by Arne Jacobsen, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames and Hans Wegner.

Good furniture, be it authentic vintage furniture or new & custom furniture, allows you to comfortably sit and tell your favorite stories. Great furniture tells a story of its own.

On 1stDibs, find everything from sofas to serveware to credenzas to coffee tables, and every other type of antique, vintage and new furniture you need to create a singular space that you’ll be proud to call home.
