Circa 1800 French Copper 2-Handled Vase with Chariot and Cartouche
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-worked circa 1800, this French vase is adorned with a chariot and cartouche scene. Some of the elements were hammered from the front side, in a metalworking technique known as chasing, while other motifs were worked from the verso side, which is known as repousse. It is not uncommon for the two methods to be used in tandem, and the work of this particular artisan is top notch. The 5 ¾ diameter opening is flanked by two flared out handles that terminate on the widest part of the main body. A flowing foliate margent (repousse) adorns the top of the body, beneath the lightly textured thick neck (chased). The leaf theme continues beneath a thin ring of roundels that frames the upper body, with a sprawling foliage display that wraps around the lower body, interrupted by a pair of cartouches. One scene depicts a man in a toga with a laurel wreath crown...

19th Century French Painted Ceramic Barbotine Basket from Montigny-sur-Loing
Located in Dallas, TX
Place this sculptural, antique jardinière on a shelf or on a kitchen counter for a pop of color. Crafted in Montigny-sur-Loing, France circa 1860, the colorful basket has a central handle and features a double vase decorated with floral and leaf motifs in high relief. The elegant, artistic planter with flowers is in excellent condition and has rich, pigmented colors in a blue, black, green and pink palette. Different markings on the bottom. Impressionist ceramics term generally applies to "paint the slip" or "batch gouache". At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the towns of Montigny-sur-Loing and Marlotte are many artists living places like Jean-Baptiste Corot, Eugène Thirion (1839-1910), Adrien Schulz (1851-1931), Numa Gillet (1868-1940) and Lucien Cahen-Michel (1888-1980), all attracted by the quality of the landscape and the light. When Eugene Schopin founded in 1872 a ceramics factory, he worked with the painters to create a range of designs inspired by Impressionism and decorated according to new public demands. Several ceramic factories will develop around this Impressionist movement. The most famous, such as Georges Delvaux (1834-1909), Albert Boué (1862-1918) and Charles Alphonse Petit (1862-1927), will produce until 1922. Other manufacturers, such as Theodore Lefront...

Clyde Burt Footed Tray Plate in Glazed Multicolored Stonewear
By Clyde Burt
Located in Dallas, TX
Born in Melrose, Ohio in 1922, Clyde Burt would go on to become a major voice in American studio ceramics. He studied at Fort Wayne Art School and later at the Cape Cod School of Art before landing at the Cranbrook Academy of Art to study under Maija Grotell. While Grotell is responsible for bringing the wheel to Cranbrook, Burt made it central to his practice and his thrown works express the same endless curiosity as his teacher. Upon returning to Ohio, Burt built a home studio on his family’s farmland near the Little Auglaize River and harvested rich clay from the surrounding area. He started every day at 5:30 in the morning and would work until he knew he “had enough”. Constantly experimenting with glazes, colors and surface decoration, Burt painstakingly recorded his successes and failures in a small notebook...
