Red with Green, 1990 print by OpArt Cleveland artist Richard Anuszkiewicz
Located in Beachwood, OH
Richard Anuszkiewicz (American, 1930-2020) Red with Green, 1990 Silkscreen on paper Signed and dated lower right, numbered 8/20 lower left 13.75 x 14.25 inches 23.75 x 24 inches, framed Richard Anuszkiewicz was born in Erie, Pennsylvania to Polish immigrants. While at the Cleveland Institute of Art, he studied plein-air painting with Henry Hensche. After winning a Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship in 1953, Anuszkiewicz attended Yale University where he studied under Josef Albers. While at Yale he studied alongside fellow Cleveland Op artist Julian Stanczak. After receiving his M.F.A. at Yale, Anuszkiewicz went on to Kent State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. At just age 23, his work was exhibited at the May Show at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He was given his first solo show in March 1960 in New York. Because of his early success, Anuszkiewicz had the freedom to pursue his ideas creatively. Anuszkiewicz was one of the leading artists of the Op Art movement during the 1960s and 1970s. His style is distinctive for its high-intensity colors that he applies to geometric configurations. Many of Anuszkiewicz works are reminiscent of Josef Albers paintings...

Contemporary Collage, Fluorescent Neon Orange Color on Black. Framed in Gold
Located in ALCOY/ALCOI, ES
COLUMN FRAGMENT, RECTANGULAR FLUOR CORAL Belonging to the exhibition "FROM STONE TO CANVAS" inspired by the cathedral of Granada. The work FRAGMENT OF COLUMN CORAL FLUOR COLOR is intended to simulate a fragment of the columns and semicolumns characteristic of the cathedral of Granada. The main color of the series "from stone to canvas" is white with all its nuances, a chromatic scheme all its shades, a chromatic scheme that, together with touches of gold, was chosen by the master from Burgos SILOE to preside over the interior of the cathedral. The collection includes colors such as black or fluorine tones to make a wink to another of my most characteristic series, the series "Pop Miami", creating a fusion between both series as in this work. Worked with fabric on canvas, the folds, gathers and drapes that during my professional draping that during my professional career in the world of fashion, I would use to design and make distinguished garments, are part of the world of art in this work, painted and sculpted, they become a semi-rigid piece that simulates the fragment of a column. The framing in black and gold wood adds exquisiteness to the whole. About the Artist After living several years outside Spain, in cities like Bangkok (Thailand), or Dusseldorf (Germany), currently Cristina Estañ...

Listening to Scarlatti in Red - bold, geometric, abstract, collage on paper
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Vertical composition on paper with a saturated wine red ground over which bristle brushed lines are cross hatched in black and royal blue. Layered over these central marks is a structure of stacked, collaged geometric strips of paper painted with intersecting lines and shapes of marine blue, red and white. This work is unframed. Please ask us about framing options. Titled "listening to Scarlati" the piece may certainly be a response to the structured sonatas for harpsicord and pianoforte of Domenico Scarlatti, an Italian composer and contemporary of Bach and Handel. Scarlati spent much of his life at the service of the Portugese and Spanish royalty...

'The Rain, Abstract in Ruby and Jade', sosaku-hanga, NMAO, Tokyo, LACMA, Benezit
Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Signed lower right outside of block, 'Hiroyuki Tajima' (Japanese, 1911-1984) and dated 1973 with limitation and number, '50-4', lower center and titled lower left, 'The Rain'. Paper dimensions: 19.75 x 12.5 inches An elegant abstract comprising overlapping forms in deep ruby, coral and jade. Engraver and printmaker, Hiroyuki Tajima was born in Tokyo in 1911 and graduated from Nihon University in 1932. In 1934, he graduated from the Tokyo School of Arts with a specialization in western-style painting. Tajima later studied fabric dyeing under Hirokawa Matsugoro (1889-1952) and woodblock printing with the Sosaku-Hanga artist, Nagase Yoshiro (1891-1978), a founder of the Japan Print Association (Hanga Kyokai). In 1946, inspired by Dada and Surrealism, Tajima joined Bijutsu Bunka Kyokai, a group dedicated to exploring and reviving the abstract and surrealist painting ideals that had been suppressed during WWII. Tajima exhibited widely and with success, including with Tokyo's Modern Art Association ( Prix du Nouveau Venu, 1962), the Japanese Engraving Association, the Contemporary Japanese Art Exhibition in Tokyo (1962), the Northwest International Print Exhibition (1962-1964) and the Tokyo International Print Biennale (1964). His work is held in the permanent collections of museums worldwide including the Portland Art Museum (Oregon), the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (British Columbia), the Art Gallery of New South Wales (Australia), the Carnegie Museum of Art, the National Museum of Art, Osaka (NMAO) and the British Museum in London. Dans Ce Sens 01 (Abstract painting)
Located in London, GB
Dans Ce Sens 01 (Abstract painting) Acrylic and ink on canvas - Unframed This artwork is exclusive to IdeelArt. Guillaume Moschini is a French abstract artist mentored by the internationally recognized Supports/Surfaces artists Claude Viallat, Patrick Saytour, and Vincent Bioules. Much like Helen Frankenthaler, Moschini’s work depends on process: unprimed, raw canvas, a diluted pigment (mixed inks, acrylics, and paint thinners), and the unconscious phenomenon that occurs through the process of art making. In his organized studio, he constructs compositions of color, transparent tints, overlays and shapes. Liquid pigments melt into the raw canvas with precarious intention. Meditation on the proper tools, balance of color, form and the flow of material is his strategy. Moschini’s palette is reinvented per series, sometimes vibrant and sometimes muted. Conceptually, Moschini’s work echoes Kenneth Noland’s minimalism without the restraint of flatness. His transparency variations within the color field and transparent overlays reinvent a contemporary and unique approach. Moschini reflects on a time in the history...

Large abstract acrylic painting on canvas by Amanda Andersen; one in a series of four created in 2020 during anxiety filled times due mostly to Covid. The shapes in these works represented a balloon at first–a common subject in the artist's earlier work, which honored the beauty and elegance of hot air balloons and also celebrated their invitation for a romantic escape. We all wanted an escape in 2020. The large shape can also be seen as a window; the static hole we all peered out from to check if the world was still out there. With stripes–also a common visual element in the artist's work, it may even suggest prison bars...

Photography, Drawings, Prints, Sculptures and Paintings for Sale

Whether growing your current fine art collection or taking the first steps on that journey, you will find an extensive range of original photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and more on 1stDibs.

Visual art is among the oldest forms of expression, and it has been evolving for centuries. Beautiful objects can provide a window to the past or insight into our current time. Art collecting enhances daily life through the presence of meaningful work. It displays an appreciation for culture, whether a print by Elizabeth Catlett channeling social change or a narrative quilt by Faith Ringgold.

Contemporary art has lured more initiates to collecting than almost any other category, with notable artists including Yayoi Kusama, Marc Chagall, Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Navigating the waiting lists for the next Marlene Dumas, Jeff Koons or Jasper Johns has become competitive.

When you’re living with art, particularly as people more often work from home and enjoy their spaces, it’s important to choose art that resonates with you. While the richness of art with its many movements, styles and histories can be overwhelming, the key is to identify what is appealing and inspiring. Artwork can play with the surrounding color of a room, creating a layered approach. The dynamic shapes and sizes of sculptures can set different moods, such as a bronze by Miguel Guía on a mantel or an Alexander Calder mobile suspended over a table. A wall of art can evoke emotions in an interior while showing off your tastes and interests. A salon-style wall mixing eclectic pieces like landscape paintings with charcoal drawings is a unique way to transform a space and show off a collection.

For art meditating on the subconscious, investigate Surrealists like Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí. Explore Pop art and its leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Rosalyn Drexler and Keith Haring for bright and bold colors. Not only did these artists question art itself, but also how we perceive society. Similarly, 20th-century photography and abstract painting reconsidered the intent of art.

Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner and Color Field artists including Sam Gilliam broke from conventional ideas of painting, while Op artists such as Yaacov Agam embraced visual trickery and kinetic movement. Novel visuals are also integral to contemporary work influenced by street art, such as sculptures and prints by KAWS.

Realist portraiture is a global tradition reflecting on what makes us human. This is reflected in the work of Slim Aarons, an American photographer whose images are at once candid and polished and appeared in Holiday magazine and elsewhere. Innovative artists Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall are now offering new perspectives on the form.

Collecting art is a rewarding, lifelong pursuit that can help connect you with the creative ways historic, modern and contemporary artists have engaged with the world. For more tips on piecing together an art collection, see our guide to buying and displaying art.

A variety of authentic art is available on 1stDibs. Explore art at auction and the 1stDibs NFT art marketplace, too.
