Marfa Sunrise
Located in New Orleans, LA
In this new series of paintings, Moore explores themes of wanderlust and memory. From glowing neon signage, to sprawling landscapes and unique architectural elements, this exhibition is a visual road trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. These paintings stem from Moore’s personal travels and open up a collective conversation about wanderlust. In these works, she revisits her former home of Los Angeles to shed a new light in juxtaposition to the bare California desert and the opulence of Las Vegas. This exhibition reflects a shift to new subject matter as well as a new artistic chapter that has been evolving within her work over the last two years. Moore’s process has progressed to become larger in scale, and more delicate in detail. This series of paintings offer trompe de l’oeil moments in combination with gestural brush stokes that reveal the artists hand. With a more increased focus on architectural elements, this exhibition amplifies features that were often muted in her earlier landscapes. With the exhibition title “All Those Who Wander”, Moore is leaving an option for the viewer to place themselves in the wanderlust narrative, or to observe it from afar. Moore believes we have a collective desire to explore and, in turn, we often daydream about our travels. This often creates a dream-like quality to our memories which results in a romanticized narrative within our minds. The reality of a place often doesn’t matter, it’s the memory of our experience there that sticks with us. We often like to sit a little longer with the most romantic and the most opulent visuals we have in our minds. Beginning with Los Angeles noir, the viewer is introduced to old Hollywood architecture blended with images reflecting the known edginess of the city. Familiar Hollywood landmarks are explored in a new light and we are left with a subtle sense of nostalgia as the viewer moves through the works. The bright desert landscapes lead into the “in between”; these are the lands that are on the way to somewhere else. Just as important as the beginning or the end, the transitional parts of a road trip often leave space for the most enriching moments of pause and reflection. The series finds a finishing point with the bright, opulent Neon Boneyard...

Age of Innocence - original round painting by Paula Craioveanu
Located in Forest Hills, NY
"Age of Innocence", original unique painting A feminine, innocent presence, portrait of a girl with a Venetian mask. acrylic on canvas 20in / 50cm, round Shipped directly from the artist from Forest Hills, NY. Registered airmail, well packed. Don't hesitate to contact me for any info. Artist Statement "I started by painting interiors, being interested in space and perspective through my studies. These scenes evolved, when I added the human figure. I focused more on the human figure and its relation to the background. The human figure is more present than ever in my paintings now. As a woman artist I’ve been preoccupied with the female form and its imagery. One of my goals was to capture the solitary moments and the nude’s relation to the surrounding space. My interest turned from depicting the space to rendering the atmosphere and the scene as a whole, the feeling a woman adds to the environment: warmth, desire, joy, a feeling of power and control, or the opposite – sadness, despair. Here is a collection of figurative paintings, exploring the nudes in interior spaces, seeing the nudes from my perspective, as a woman artist, considering the physical and spiritual realities of a woman’s body, in a new level of intimacy. My paintings are the opposite of objectifying a woman’s or a man’s anatomy. Painted works, featuring female nudes and a also men nudes, in a reversal of the male-artist/female-muse pattern, validate the feminine experience, defining myself through it. I was interested in how one experiences the body in a sensual form, and later focused on my own body, as I experience it myself, looking into the mirror and reconnecting. My work challenges the tradition of the nude by capturing my point of view, the gaze of a female painter, by using photography, drawings, sketches, and painting on canvas, for, both physical and psychological exploration. My art tries to create a visual language for emotion, beauty, feelings of intimacy and in the same time autonomy, captured with paint and vivid colors. My intense interest in colour and the gestures of the brush strokes are the means I see and convey the subjects in space, as living, passionate beings." Paula Craioveanu

Baitfish, original 34x34 figurative marine landscape
Located in Spring Lake, NJ
She grew up summering at the beach, hanging around with the seagulls as her parents watched her from underneath their striped beach umbrella, not far back in the sand from the lifeguard's chair. A budding student of the ocean, she does not hesitate to challenge the seagulls as they dive into the surf for their next meal . . . the baitfish! Her feet are solidly planted in the ocean floor as the undertow grabs her and the baitfish with each wave, in this original, figurative, marine landscape. The turquoise and kelly green waters are radiant as the white tide plays off of the seagulls. Adding to that is the tension and excitement created by the bright, midday light, touches of impressionist's impasto paint application and abstractions of sections of the tide. Noted artist Joseph Sundwall...

"Glistening Ocean" oil painting of a wave and blue sky behind
Located in Edgartown, MA
The rhythm of the waves marks time, like the breath. Moment to moment, its intensity fluctuates like emotion. Thoughts linger and pass, like a veil of fog. At the shore I am reminded to be present. It provides a place for contemplation and reflection. I identify with the strength and vulnerability of the ocean when a storm is brewing or passing, when the surf is up, when the fog looms or is lifting, when the horizon is obscured, or the sky begins to clear, I find beauty in these moments of transition. I bring this experience into the studio as I interpret the smells, sounds, feelings, and energy of the water or the quiet movement of fog. The process is fluid, moving between freedom and control, accident and intention, as I push and pull the paint to convey and realize my visual and emotional experiences. BIOGRAPHY Annie is a British painter and printmaker. She moved to New York City in 1989 and worked at the British Consulate. Art remained a part of her life during those years, but in 2006 she left and begin a new chapter, returning to a life with art at the very center and enrolled in an MFA program at the The New York Academy of Art. This provided the instruction, immersion and creative freedom to develop her skills and artistic voice and proved to be a fruitful time bringing with it several awards including a Post-graduate Fellowship, Prince of Wales Scholarships, and travel awards to Normandy, France and St Barts, in the French West Indies. After the fellowship Annie left New York for the East End of Long Island and spent two wonderful years in the quiet hamlet of Orient, as Artist-in-Residence at the William Steeple Davis House. It was here that Annie met and became a studio assistant to Master Printmaker Dan Welden and continues to assist him at workshops in the North East, including Haystack School of Crafts in Maine, Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, and Montserrat College of Fine Arts. In 2011 Annie left the East End of LI and moved to Mystic Ct...

Three Bathers
Located in New York, NY
Isca Greenfield-Sanders Three Bathers, 2018 Mixed media oil on canvas 63 x 63 inches 160 x 160 cm Signed, titled and dated (verso) -- Greenfield-Sanders’ landscape paintings invite the viewer into nostalgia, to forge a connection to their own experience. Using found vintage photography as a starting point, she creates several iterations of each image, which she alters with pencil and watercolor, and finally paints over with oil. They emerge simultaneously familiar yet enigmatic. She elaborates, stating, “All of my paintings are based on amateur slides from seventy years ago. I am interested in the ‘comfortably familiar’ nature of the images and how the elapsed time allows them to ‘prickle with new meaning’ to connect that which was worth capturing with that which is worth painting, at present.” The paintings require a great deal of forethought and groundwork, but still appear unlabored and fresh. Her style of painting, which prizes color, representation and evocation, is activated by both individual experience and collective memory. Isca Greenfield-Sanders (b. in 1978 in New York City) received her dual BFA and BA degree from Brown University. The artist lives and works in New York, NY. Recent solo exhibitions include “The Things I Can’t Forget,” Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; “Ocean Eyes of Blue,” Michael Reid...

Photography, Drawings, Prints, Sculptures and Paintings for Sale

Whether growing your current fine art collection or taking the first steps on that journey, you will find an extensive range of original photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and more on 1stDibs.

Visual art is among the oldest forms of expression, and it has been evolving for centuries. Beautiful objects can provide a window to the past or insight into our current time. Art collecting enhances daily life through the presence of meaningful work. It displays an appreciation for culture, whether a print by Elizabeth Catlett channeling social change or a narrative quilt by Faith Ringgold.

Contemporary art has lured more initiates to collecting than almost any other category, with notable artists including Yayoi Kusama, Marc Chagall, Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Navigating the waiting lists for the next Marlene Dumas, Jeff Koons or Jasper Johns has become competitive.

When you’re living with art, particularly as people more often work from home and enjoy their spaces, it’s important to choose art that resonates with you. While the richness of art with its many movements, styles and histories can be overwhelming, the key is to identify what is appealing and inspiring. Artwork can play with the surrounding color of a room, creating a layered approach. The dynamic shapes and sizes of sculptures can set different moods, such as a bronze by Miguel Guía on a mantel or an Alexander Calder mobile suspended over a table. A wall of art can evoke emotions in an interior while showing off your tastes and interests. A salon-style wall mixing eclectic pieces like landscape paintings with charcoal drawings is a unique way to transform a space and show off a collection.

For art meditating on the subconscious, investigate Surrealists like Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí. Explore Pop art and its leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Rosalyn Drexler and Keith Haring for bright and bold colors. Not only did these artists question art itself, but also how we perceive society. Similarly, 20th-century photography and abstract painting reconsidered the intent of art.

Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner and Color Field artists including Sam Gilliam broke from conventional ideas of painting, while Op artists such as Yaacov Agam embraced visual trickery and kinetic movement. Novel visuals are also integral to contemporary work influenced by street art, such as sculptures and prints by KAWS.

Realist portraiture is a global tradition reflecting on what makes us human. This is reflected in the work of Slim Aarons, an American photographer whose images are at once candid and polished and appeared in Holiday magazine and elsewhere. Innovative artists Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall are now offering new perspectives on the form.

Collecting art is a rewarding, lifelong pursuit that can help connect you with the creative ways historic, modern and contemporary artists have engaged with the world. For more tips on piecing together an art collection, see our guide to buying and displaying art.

A variety of authentic art is available on 1stDibs. Explore art at auction and the 1stDibs NFT art marketplace, too.
