Chinese Porcelain Ginger Jar Famille Rose

About

A Chinese porcelain ginger jar dating to the late Qing dynasty in the early 20th century. The ornate patterns are set against a soft pink background, a color scheme that became popular beginning in the Qianlong period. The jar is richly decorated in famille rose pigments showing flowers, bats, and the Chinese “shou” character. The bats, homonym of “blessing” in Chinese, symbolize good fortune in Qing Chinese decorative arts. The “shou” character, meaning longevity, conveys a good message of long life to all viewers of the jar. The base of the jar is painted with a band of abstract lotus petal panels. Altogether, the rich and colorful designs on the jar send out wishes of longevity and luck to its owners. The golden knob on the top of the cover further adds a glittering feeling to this gorgeous piece. This unique ginger jar will certainly be a highlight piece that attracts visitors’ attention in any traditional or contemporary home. Dimensions: 9.75 inches tall x 9 inches diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $4700.
