The pinnacle of midcentury style, an English country estate reimagined for the American desert, there is no other house like Sunnylands. A stately home, designed by A. Quincy Jones, one of California’s most signifi cant architects, it contains the only completely preserved interior by Hollywood’s legendary decorator-to-the-stars, William Haines, that is open to the public. A new book, Sunnylands: America’s Midcentury Masterpiece (The Vendome Press, October), offers an intimate tour of this legendary property. It was the early 1960s when Walter and Leonore Annenberg visited the Palm Springs area, bought hundreds of acres of desert, and created a modernist dream house at the center of their own golf course. Like the landed British aristocracy—Walter Annenberg had been the Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s in London—the couple built a retreat, where politicians, movie stars, and corporate leaders could meet, relax, and refl ect in comfort and privacy. For four decades, an invitation to New Year’s Eve at Sunnylands was the ultimate social prize. Their good friends, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, would land Marine One on the greens. Antique and very rare Gothic photo book filled with French photos from circa 1860-1880.
Over the decades we have bought and sold many Gothic Revival antiques from almost all the centuries since Gothic pieces have been around. This however is the first time that we ever found a pure Gothic photo album. This hand-crafted album dates from circa 1870-1890 and some of the antique photos are even older. The most eyecatching features (when this album is closed) are ofcourse the large, bronzed metal, Gothic hinges and they even still open and close perfectly on the side where this album closes and opens. Another great feature is the embossed leather Gothic decoration on the spine of this rare antique. It includes two Gothic trefoil symbols for the trinity, making this rare antique also a meaningful one. The guilded outsides of the pages makes it resemble the outsides of many large antique bibles and the multitude of photos inside (many Parisian) are images that tell part of the story of what life was like (for the well to do) in the mid 1800s in France. Baroque Style Hand Carved Wooden Crucifix with Stunning Bronze Corpus of Christ

This unique and remarkable antique crucifix can both be used as a table and as a wall crucifix. Over the decades we have sold a number of unique and very well crafted crucifixes, but never one in the Baroque style with this combination of materials and techniques. The overall design and size is what stands out first, but the details and the materials are what make this antique work of religious art extraordinary. With four angels (or putti) watching over a sculpture of the Veil of Veronica, the relatively large base of this unique crucifix is a work of religious art in its own right. It is almost as if the cross is growing from this beautiful base and the cross itself too comes with a number of superbly hand carved details. To us, the most remarkable are the three stunning Baroque shells. With their symbolic meaning of birth and resurrection it is obvious why the artist / sculptor so tastefully incorporated them here. Apart from a minor 'lean' to the left, the cross itself too is in excellent condition. If one were to speak of a trinity in this crucifix then the unique base and cross are completed with an equally striking, solid bronze corpus of Christ...
