Sparrow and Jumping Mouse Find the Magic Mushrooms
Located in Denver, CO
This cheekily titled scene depicts two woodland creatures encountering a spattering of fungi on the forest floor. This work is rendered in exquisite detail, down to the Sparrows feathers and inquisitive expression and and the soft fuzz on the mouse's small form. "Sparrow and Jumping Mouse Find the Magic Mushrooms" showcases artist Marc Dennis' hyper realistic style and propensity for witty humor. New York to Milan - Photorealistic Oil and Enamel Painting on Canvas
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Ross Tamlin's unique photorealistic compositions merge traditional painting methods with modern industrial techniques to create captivating works of art. Using layers of oil and enamel paint, Tamlin creates an illusion of corrugation that adds depth and texture to his pieces. His use of industrial imagery and found objects is a nod to contemporary art, while his bold color palette and incorporation of text is a nod to the Pop Art movement. Tamlin created this one-of-a-kind, vibrant, and colorful painting measuring 42 inches high by 36 inches wide and 1.25 inches deep with oil and enamel paint on canvas. The sides of the canvas are painted in a continuation of the front eliminating the need for framing. In addition to being signed by the artist on the front, the artwork also comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery. The certificate guarantees the authenticity and provenance of the artwork. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area. Affordable worldwide shipping is available for U.S. and international art collectors. In this artwork, Tamlin reworks the traditional idea of landscape painting by incorporating text and familiar places' names, such as California destinations, painted in large letters over the colorful photorealistic painted corrugated metal. This photorealistic painting by Ross Tamlin is so expertly executed that it perfectly mimics the texture and appearance of corrugated metal, even when seen in person. However, upon much closer inspection from the side at a nearly 90-degree angle, the levelness of the canvas is revealed, allowing you to appreciate the skillful brushwork of oil and enamel paint that gives the amazing illusion of depth and texture. With meticulous attention to detail, Tamlin imparts extraordinary depth to the painting, creating a finish that emulates the shine of polished metal and further enhances the piece's realistic appearance. This original artwork stands as a testament to Tamlin's remarkable talent and precision, demonstrated through the inclusion of even the smallest details, such as the masterfully painted rusty rivet holes. Tamlin's works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and are held in private collections worldwide, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, the USA, Switzerland, and France. Corporate collections include ING Bank, Babcock & Brown, Barclays Bank, Saville Hotel Group, Savills Property Group, Minter Ellison, Hai Win Shipping, Allkotes Pty Ltd, Blue Scope Steel Pty Ltd, Sieper & Co., A. The Myth of the Alpha Male
Located in Denver, CO
A lone wolf stalks a forest clearing in this painting by American artist Marc Dennis. The hyper-realistic rendering of the wolf is contrasted by the inclusion of highly stylized, graphic stars that dot the frame. These stars seem to soften the wolf's outward gaze, which meet the viewer head on. Marc Dennis is a Brooklyn-based artist known for his hyper-realistic paintings that spotlight the subversive potential of beauty and the gaze. His work marries styles and techniques from art historical movements to motifs from pop and contemporary culture. His provocative mash-ups employ irony to pose questions around taste, value, representation, and artistic pedigree.  By merging 19th-century traditional American Western painting...

A Pleasing Bloom-original hyper realism still life painting-contemporary Art
Located in London, Chelsea
"A Pleasing Bloom" by Colin Wilson, a captivating still life masterpiece that brings the essence of nature to life. This original oil painting, skillfully rendered on board, showcases Wilson's mastery in contemporary realism, inviting viewers to savor the beauty of simplicity. At the heart of the composition, three luscious plums take center stage, their rich, velvety hues of pink exuding a sensuous allure. Each plum is meticulously painted, capturing the subtle variations in color and texture, making them almost palpable. The play of light on the plums creates a dynamic interplay of shadows and highlights, adding depth and dimension to the scene. The plums rest upon a bed of leaves, their verdant greens providing a harmonious contrast to the vibrant pinks. The leaves, delicately detailed with veins and subtle variations in color, contribute to the overall realism of the piece. Positioned on a dark 3D boxed...

The People, signed 3D photo realist mixed media sculpture of people viewing art
Located in New York, NY
Howard Kanovitz The People, 1971 3-5 Mixed Media Silkscreen on Plexiglas and aluminum base Signed: Artist's Signature etched on the work and annotated A.P., Edition of 1 (an Artists Proof, aside from the regular edition of 75) 15 × 16 × 1 1/2 inches Signatured etched on the work and annotated A.P. , aside from the limited edition of 75. This excellent 1971 3-D photo realist work "The People" is a multiple based upon a larger work the artist did of people beholding a work of art. Here, we see them only from behind, because they are busy looking at art - a clever photorealist work - art about art - catching people in the process of looking at art. Howard Kanovitz Biography Howard Kanovitz was a leader of Photo Realism: a documenter of style and fashion, depicting members of the art scene at openings, or superimposing known critics and curators onto images of board room meetings. In his particular style, he explored the intersections of painting, photography, fiction, and fact. Kanovitz studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and The Art Studenst League in Woodstock where he worked with Yasuo Kyniyoshi before moving to New York an apprenticing with Franz Kline. As a member of New York’s downtown art scene, Kanovitz painted abstract paintings, which he exhibited at Tenth Street Galleries early in his career. Following his father’s death in 1963, Kanovitz went through family photos, an experience which prompted him to interrogate the relationship between images and perception. At this time, Kanovitz abandoned abstraction in favor of a figurative style and worked arduously in this new direction. These efforts culminated in a 1966 solo exhibition at the Jewish Museum, securing his place as a leader of Photo Realism among artists such as Larry Rivers, Alex Katz, and Chuck Close. His photo based, representational paintings exhibited at the Jewish Museum show were the first to be called “photo-realist” and shocked many in the art community prompting a symposium which was held at the New York Studio School for “downtown artists” to weigh in on this perennial “hot topic”, newly addressed by one of their own. Kanovitz first began using airbrush in 1967, giving his paintings a feeling of photographic perfection. Cut out figures created using this precisionist technique were placed in the viewers space, often in front of Kanovitz’s painted canvas depicting the luminaries of the art world of the time. This type of installation was the centerpiece in the first of several Waddell Gallery shows. Kanovitz has been the subject of many solo museum shows internationally and his work is collected by institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Britain, London, and Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna. -Courtesy Eric Firestone...

Photography, Drawings, Prints, Sculptures and Paintings for Sale

Whether growing your current fine art collection or taking the first steps on that journey, you will find an extensive range of original photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and more on 1stDibs.

Visual art is among the oldest forms of expression, and it has been evolving for centuries. Beautiful objects can provide a window to the past or insight into our current time. Art collecting enhances daily life through the presence of meaningful work. It displays an appreciation for culture, whether a print by Elizabeth Catlett channeling social change or a narrative quilt by Faith Ringgold.

Contemporary art has lured more initiates to collecting than almost any other category, with notable artists including Yayoi Kusama, Marc Chagall, Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Navigating the waiting lists for the next Marlene Dumas, Jeff Koons or Jasper Johns has become competitive.

When you’re living with art, particularly as people more often work from home and enjoy their spaces, it’s important to choose art that resonates with you. While the richness of art with its many movements, styles and histories can be overwhelming, the key is to identify what is appealing and inspiring. Artwork can play with the surrounding color of a room, creating a layered approach. The dynamic shapes and sizes of sculptures can set different moods, such as a bronze by Miguel Guía on a mantel or an Alexander Calder mobile suspended over a table. A wall of art can evoke emotions in an interior while showing off your tastes and interests. A salon-style wall mixing eclectic pieces like landscape paintings with charcoal drawings is a unique way to transform a space and show off a collection.

For art meditating on the subconscious, investigate Surrealists like Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí. Explore Pop art and its leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Rosalyn Drexler and Keith Haring for bright and bold colors. Not only did these artists question art itself, but also how we perceive society. Similarly, 20th-century photography and abstract painting reconsidered the intent of art.

Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner and Color Field artists including Sam Gilliam broke from conventional ideas of painting, while Op artists such as Yaacov Agam embraced visual trickery and kinetic movement. Novel visuals are also integral to contemporary work influenced by street art, such as sculptures and prints by KAWS.

Realist portraiture is a global tradition reflecting on what makes us human. This is reflected in the work of Slim Aarons, an American photographer whose images are at once candid and polished and appeared in Holiday magazine and elsewhere. Innovative artists Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall are now offering new perspectives on the form.

Collecting art is a rewarding, lifelong pursuit that can help connect you with the creative ways historic, modern and contemporary artists have engaged with the world. For more tips on piecing together an art collection, see our guide to buying and displaying art.
